I never thought a reunion was possible, so I was sort of warm to the idea. But now that it has happened, I'm simply hoping Eaton isn't the black hole Mazara was and isn't a statue in RF.
I guess we are going to find out if he's become less of an asshat after playing in Washington. Be careful what you wish for, even in passing fancy...??
There were rumblings out of AZ after the Sox acquired Eaton that he might have had some clubhouse issues. Don't recall it really show up much until the Adam LaRoche retirement over his kid being a constant clubhouse presence. Eaton showed his ass pretty hard in defense of LaRoche if I remember correctly. Frasier and Eaton had some bad blood that continued after both where traded. The whole fiasco shined a light on a pretty toxic clubhouse before all of the blockbuster trades to kick off the rebuild. Nats teammates seem to have good things to say about him now so maybe he grew up a little? Who knows for sure.
If the Sox can work out an extension, even adding a year or two on an option, the move becomes a home run. Let's hope Hahn can still work some contract magic.
That's fair. But also unknown is who is pitching for the Sox in 22 onward. It's a win now move that I understand, but don't love. It's less about Dunning the pitcher as it is trading for a rental.
* my opinion might also change after we see what other moves are made.
Dunning's team control was too much to give up for essentially a rental, but nothing can be done about it now. At least the second piece was minimal. Sign Joc, a 4th starter, and a closer now please.
I get it, I dont love it, and if Lynn bounces elsewhere I will hate it. Win now upgrade but still leaves holes in the rotation. Hope those years of control given away don't haunt them.
Total random gut feeling says the short term years remaining make the appeal greater. This would be a short term all in move that they could actually accomplish and not be left hanging in FA again.
Darvish has 3/$59 left according to Baseball-Reference - $22M, $19M, & $18M. His age might deter but he won't be lacking for suitors if he is on the market.
