  1. Manoah was completely broken last year. If he were cheap to acquire I'd be all for it as a change of scenery guy, but Toronto probably asks for too much in return.
  2. It's just very Reinsdorfian and all too familiar. Yes, it has a minimal impact to the total payroll number in a lost season, but it still seems like a waste to me.
  3. Jays fans I know on Twitter are NOT happy about this.
  4. Spot on. Stassi or Maldonado, not both. They've basically burned $8M on a guy at the tail end of his career hoping to squeeze just a bit more juice out of him. Seems awfully familiar.
  5. How soon does the blocking et cetera start to fall off at 37? There's a lot of mileage on those knees/legs. I'm not opposed to signing a vet C and agree with the purported intention behind the pick up, I just find it hard to squint and see Maldonado as anything but a net negative at this point.
  6. Gotta love signing a 37 y/o catcher for his ‘intangibles’ despite not really being able to play the position at a high level anymore. Then basically handing him the starting job because your other acquisition is a huge question mark, as is the presumed incumbent, and selling it hard like you just acquired the guy in his prime.
  7. 1/$4M with a vesting option. Yikes. I see Getz is just as bad at spending money as Hahn was.
  8. ‘Andrew Vaughn was rushed by those who tried to hold off the Getz coup’ is a sentence I never in my life ever expected to read. This thread has officially jumped the shark.
  9. I’d prefer adding Maldonado’s experience to the coaching staff rather than adding it in a 37 y/o catcher with bad D and poor framing who will likely be splitting time behind the plate. I don’t disagree with the idea behind adding a vet like this, but it’s hard to squint and see Maldonado still being effective and or productive.
  10. This makes sense, except Maldonado is probably done as a productive player and won't be helping much on the field.
  11. Yeah, I seem to remember him being pretty awful defensively last season.
  12. I don't think Maldonado will actually provide much if any of what Chuck lays out. How much life do his legs still have at 37? Feels more like a mentor presence that should rarely play.
  13. I guess this means Getz doesn't like Korey Lee. Really need to see the contract numbers.
  14. In a lost season, grabbing a few flippable relievers on 1 year deals seems like a pretty sound idea to me. Hopefully Getz isn't dumb enough to lock up volatile arms to multiple years like his predecessor.
  15. That's what I gather reading the tea leaves from afar. They won't be spending gobs to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox for the AL East, so they need to be shrewd.
  16. Elias has to be smart enough to know that the O's running away with the AL East was a bit of a perfect storm. How often are both NYY and Boston not in the playoff chase? They can't just sit on their hands and not add while the big spenders upgrade, and at some point all of these prospects are going to start to age and depreciate in value. He may not feel a sense of urgency this winter, but at some point it will be time to s%*# or get off the pot.
  17. World Series ring, perfect game, and a no hitter are all some of the highest feats a pitcher can reach. Along with his lengthy streak of 200 inning seasons, or whatever that was. Hall of Very Good, absolutely. Very very good. Hall of Fame? I don't know. While I think he's deserving, I wouldn't call it a travesty if he doesn't make it in.
