  1. Had more than I can remember (Jeff Torborg called me this morning for example) but one I vividly remember even though it didn't involve me was when Dick Allen cracked his bat in a game. He's walking back to the dugout with it and saw a little kid by the dugout, without saying a word he handed it to him and kept right on walking.
  2. He has his issues defensively (and one could also say from a "baseball-smarts" standpoint). 16 errors now. In some ways he's like Alexei Ramirez a guy who felt his athletic ability would make up for everything. Hint: It doesn't at the big league level and like Ramirez his concentration seems to disappear at times which is not good. His hitting of course is making up for some of this but you'd think after three plus seasons now, he'd have a better handle on things.
  3. Ankle sprains especially high ones can be a real b****, usually anywhere from four to six weeks and you spend a lot of time in a boot. At Idaho State they had a few players get those and they are nasty. Tua at Alabama had one and had that special surgery to enable him to play in the championship game, you could tell he wasn't right but without the surgery he wouldn't have had the time to even try to play.
  4. Playing devil's advocate the organization could say, "Well guys can't keep dropping like flies...sooner or later we'll be healthy. Then you've got Giolito, Lopez, Dunning, Kopech, Rodon and Cease...that should be MORE than enough." Of course it isn't but I'm just saying you can think the organization is going to use injuries as a convenient excuse to do nothing / very little this off season. I hope they don't, I don't think they will but nothing is guaranteed with this bunch. They have a very strange sense of logic.
  5. Haven't had good fundamentals since 2005 and 2012 and guess what Ozzie and Robin were mandating extra fielding practice / situational practice before games. Hmmmmmmmmmmm... Regarding the game itself, bullpen is now cracking apart and looking like crap, Anderson now with 16 errors. Red Sox will sweep them tomorrow, Twins will probably bludgeon them and then the Sox can start taking offers to see what they can get for some guys. You knew that with the pitching staff as decimated as it is this was going to happen sooner or later. I guess it was fun while it lasted.
  6. I wouldn't necessarily use home runs as a basis for deciding if a trade was good or bad. EVERYBODY is hitting home runs and Manfred last week admitted a change in the ball is part of the reason. I assume they will adjust the baseball moving forward and you may not see as many guys hitting them in such high numbers. And speaking of numbers Colome is 16 for 16 in saves, setting a Sox team record for best start ever for a relief pitcher breaking Dustin Hermanson's 15-15 set in 2005...so it is not like he's chopped liver or if you will crap like Santana, Nova, Alonso or Jay.
  7. You are probably right but if for once those guys actually produce, I won't care it will help the team. The rub of course is if they actually produce.
  8. I suspect because subconsciously umpires are saying to themselves, "it's the White Sox, who gives a shit..." on borderline calls. Again I don't think it is deliberate it's just the Sox have zero reputation and don't merit the same "breaks" as the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs, Cardinals et al. If the Sox start winning that may change.
  9. Look at the eight teams that are out of the race / rebuilding and see what you may be able to do. In 2004 when the Sox needed pitching they got Garcia and Contreras. How did that work out? It can be done.
  10. Why not? He's signing every other has been.
  11. Jose blamed himself for the loss last night, said he wasn't in the proper position to guard the line in the 9th inning.
  12. Not on the White Sox in a rebuilding situation.
  13. This one could be very ugly tonight and continue to tax a bullpen that has been giving up leads in the middle innings lately. We'll see.
  14. Dirty: I'll make it even easier for you: Roll call: Fulmer-bust Hansen- mental bust Burdi - bust Burger - bust (because the guy can't stay healthy) That's a great track record by the "brilliant" Sox drafting / scouting people. Sorry when guys keep getting hammered or can't stay healthy that's BUST in my book until they prove otherwise, if they ever do. Burger has already lost 18 goddamn months of developmental time and there were some questions about his athletic ability even before he got hurt. Hey I hope the guy completely turns it around, makes it to the show and blasts 35 home runs a season. But I'm not holding my breath and neither should you. Carry on soldier. ?
  15. I missed the part where it was explained, can you please repeat.
  16. After this week when the Sox are eight or nine under they need to explore all possible trade options for both him and Jose'. However if they don't bring back something decent, then keep them and see what happens in the off season.
  17. And when the game was on the line...........................................................................oh well.
  18. We need a better manager but JR has publicly said they don't matter much (or head coaches) which is why he's never gone after the best available nor been willing to pay "big" money to get one. Ozzie had his strong points but he seemed to forget about all of them in the last few years and started believing his press clippings. No thank you.
  19. 4th game this year the Sox have blown and lost when they had a lead in the 7th inning or later. Herrera has been involved in two of those four. Going to be a very long week friends. Just dumb baseball and dumb managing tonight.
  20. Is the pain in the same leg as the surgeries? If so, that's VERY bad news.
  21. Cards just lost their closer for the season today with a torn UCL.
  22. The Sox said both Rodon (second half) and Dunning could be available to pitch next year. Will they? Better guess is with Rodon, Dunning doesn't have a whole hell of a lot of experience. On paper next year's rotation (for better or worse) looks like the following: Giolito, Lopez, Kopech, Cease, FA signee with Rodon and/or Dunning waiting in the wings. Certainly looks better than the disaster for this year but still a lot of question marks. Would feel better if they signed two good FA pitchers, then if everyone comes back healthy and strong you've got great trading strength at the deadline for someplace else that you need.
  23. By the end of this week it'll be seven or eight back. Done and done.
