Selling at the deadline: Renteria and locker room reaction
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 09:51 AM) To dance the fine line of rebuilding, while giving this team a chance to contend (and what appears to be a really weak AL Central is what gives me the most hope), I suggest the following: 1)Move Robertson ASAP. Yes, the other guys could fall apart. But if they do, this team won't contend with our without Robertson. 2) Move one of the starters - either Gonzalez, or Holland. Rodon replaces 3)Move Frazier if he gets it together. 4)Hold Q until offseason. He is a premium off-season trade piece, due to the high value of his contract. 5)Send May back to the minors. Bring up W Garcia who hit well in his cup of coffee and his hitting well in AAA. Send Asche as well and bring up Delmonico or the like. 6)Keep playing the bench. It is still audition time. Yolmer may be needed as the utility player. Other than Robertson, the Sox have another month until the suggestions are really tradeable, and it may be moot by then. Hope not, though. Seems pretty solid to me save for Rodon. Who knows what his injury situation really is and when he may return. Mark

Selling at the deadline: Renteria and locker room reaction
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 09:51 PM) Nobody cares about the locker room. Nobody cares about being in first place. If the Sox are 1-2 out near the trading deadline, people will be dying to trade all the usual suspects for prospects. It's the rebuild that the vocal fans care about, not some quest for a weak division title. It's just the way it is. The new wave statniks love this rebuild and that's that. The Sox will trade off everybody they can even if they happened to be 2-3 games in first near the deadline. Rebuilding is IN right now. Personally I want to win and scrap the alleged rebuild. The reality is the Royals blow chunks, the Tigers suck, the Twins suck and Cleveland is great. Personally... I want to win MULTIPLE YEARS IN A ROW (Something the Sox have never done in franchise history as in actually making the playoffs in consecutive years). Personally... I don't want to see the Sox go through a 10 year stretch like they did from 2006-2016. Three winning seasons in 10 years, no consecutive winning seasons since 2003-2006, One playoff appearance since 2005. Personally... I saw enough that the system of having several very good players and the bulk of the roster made up of basically trash was NOT working. Since ownership isn't going to change and the front office isn't, so long as ownership stays the same and since it's idiotic to keep trying the same failed approach time after time and expect anything different and since ownership isn't going to spend 150 million for the top free agent talent AND to provide good depth...this is the best that could be done under those limitations. But that's just my personal opinion. LOL. Mark

Sox story in S.I...
Page 21 in this week's issue called, "The Case for the White Sox" by Jeremy Fuchs. It ends, "But there is plenty of reason to hope. And in a city that knows how to be patient with its baseball teams, a little more waiting could result in the South Side team soon having a party of its own..." Let the rebuild continue...slow and steady. Mark

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
Nice rebound today after the blown save. Also as an aside has anybody noticed the start that Alex Avila has gotten off to? Where was this guy the two years with the Sox???? Mark

Bullpen
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 08:37 AM) I thought FIRST PLACE teams were buyers at the trade deadline, not sellers!! They won't be in first place come the trade deadline so that won't be an issue. Stay the course...rebuild. Mark

Your 1st Place Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 09:36 PM) You got to love it. However the bullpen will need reinforcements soon if Covey and Pelfrey can't go 5 innings and Petricka and Putnam are out much longer. It might be sustainable under different circumstances but overwork will lead to fatigue and fatigue will lead to meltdowns. Bullpen has been lights out, will make them even more valuable as trade pieces later on. Whatever happens, stay the course...rebuild! Regarding Petricka and Putnam, I thought I read a few days ago (Phil Rogers maybe?) that Petricka has torn that lat muscle not pulled it. If that's true, he's not coming back for a long time. Putnam ? Who knows considering it's his elbow. And I'd be surprised if Rodon was back before June. Mark

Putnam to DL
QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 07:46 PM) Beck has been a very boring and uninspiring pitcher but he's looked a bit different this year. Velo is up and slider is sharper. I wouldn't hitch my wagon to him having success but I like his changes this time around more than I've liked any other. I assume this was written BEFORE the 9th inning tonight? Mark

Putnam to DL
Can't count on a guy who can't stay healthy. Four Sox pitchers now on the DL. Mark

April 24th Game Thread: Chicago Whife Sox vs. KC Royals
Still very early and time will ultimately tell but who knows, Davidson may be someone who can contribute for the next several years in some role. We'll know more I guess when the Sox either trade Frazier or he leaves via free agency. And this is a weird stat, Sox have a bad, bad offense...yet three times already they've scored 10 or more runs in a game. Mark
-
April 23rd Game Thread: White Sox vs. Indians
Hey they scored some runs! Regarding Davidson not playing again RR said it's because he wants to give some other players an opportunity against the specific pitchers the Sox have been facing the past few games. (In other words bench one of the few decent hitters on the team to tank games!) And you know what, I'm OK with that...stay with the plan. Mark

Game thread for Saturday, April 22nd at 610 pm cdt
And now...it begins....the major drop into the Seth Beer sweepstakes. One thing I will say that surprises me is the attendance figures for some of these home games. Obviously a lot of Sox fans understand and approve of the rebuild. Either that or the Sox are really padding the figures. Regarding Putnam...he's the same as Petricka and Tilson...can't stay healthy. Meaning they aren't worth anything even in a trade for a low A ball player. Not that they are trying to get hurt...some guys are just unlucky. Mark

Indians @ Sox, 7:10 Quintana vs Kluber
Sox have scored 14 runs in their last seven games. They have scored a total of four runs for Q ALL SEASON. One run in his last three starts. They need to trade him right now before he loses his f***ing mind! Mark

Shields to the DL
The injuries keep piling up. Guess this isn't a bad year for it to happen though. Mark

White Sox have "set" Luis Robert market
QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) That's seems familiar. I think you're right. Because a number of his players were going to become free agents, because the division between Finley and said players was so deep and because Finley was cheap and wasn't going to be able to re-sign them he decided to sell them off, get what he could for them and reinvest what was huge money back into his farm system and towards signing future players. For all his faults, Finley knew talent...he basically signed and built the three time defending World Series champions from 72-73-74. The deals that were made (before commissioner Bowie Kuhn stepped in a nullified them) was the following: Reggie Jackson and Ken Holtzman were traded to Baltimore a week prior to the start of the 1976 season. He got back Don Baylor, Mike Torrez and Paul Mitchell. This deal was allowed to go through by MLB. Finley attempted to sell Joe Rudi and Rollie Fingers to the Red Sox for one million each. This was after a deal involving those two PLUS Vida Blue, Gene Tenace and Sal Bando for Fred Lynn, Carlton Fisk and a couple of throw in's fell through. Then he tried selling Vida Blue to the Yankees for 1.5 million. Again this was after a potential deal of Blue to New York for Thurman Munson and either Roy White or Elliott Maddox fell apart. He talked with the Rangers about selling Don Baylor, he talked with Milwaukee about a Joe Rudi for Darrell Porter deal and he tried to sell off Sal Bando by himself (The White Sox were among those interested.) Major League Baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn decided to invoke the rarely used "best interests of baseball" clause in order to void Finley's sales. Finley, in turn, hired famed sports attorney Neil Papiano and proceeded to file a $10 million restraint-of-trade lawsuit against Kuhn and Major League Baseball. Papiano and Finley lost the case. The court ruled that the commissioner had the authority to determine what is in the best interest of baseball. This lawsuit is widely recognized as one of the most famous, influential and precedent-setting sports-related cases in the history of American jurisprudence. Mark

QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) None of those guys are big leaguers. Makes no difference which one plays. Maybe when Tilson gets back it will be a little bit better. If Tilson ever comes back healthy for longer then a few days. We'll see. Mark

White Sox Winner!
This team reminds me of some of the Sox teams from the 50's and 60's in this respect. Offense is terrible (19 runs in last seven games, 10 in a single game during that stretch) but because of their pitching they are winning most of the 2-1 and 3-1 games to this point. And you trade Shields and Avi as soon as possible, their value will never be higher if they keep this mirage up. Mark
