  1. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) He rated a 0 in 2016 as well. And this data doesn't include the impact of the arm, right? Just catches made/not made. The reason the popular metrics don't like Engel is solely because of his arm, apparently- but it's puzzling because his arm must be a complete and utter liability in order for it to offset his glove by so much.
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) It also suggests he is better than Mike Trout out there who is at -4 . Mike Trout's defense has been overrated for a long time, IMO
  3. QUOTE (Superstar Lamar @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) It's amusing to see the year start off with people hoping the Sox would be in a position to draft Beer and ending with them hoping to not be in a position to draft him Goes to show you how fickle this all is. There are Sox fans on Twitter who berate other fans for wanting guys like Beer instead of Kelenic or Turang, which is also pretty foolish IMO- what if Beer has a huge 2018 for Clemson and raises his stock again? So much can change between now and draft day.
  4. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 10:54 AM) The Abreu impact on the young new players like Moncada cannot be understated. He is one of the players I wouldn't trade at this point. I think his value to mentoring young players is more valuable than any possible return he could provide at this point. Stories like that make me wonder how many players would be much better hitters if they just used a slightly heavier or lighter bat.
  5. Please Ron, make Markannen ROY for me and have the Hawks make another Cup run
  6. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 05:54 PM) Saladino tied the AL LOB record in a 9 inning game with 11. Imagine the offensive output today without him batting 6th
  7. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 08:51 PM) You left Eaton off the list again lol. I'm very thankful they decided to rebuild when they did. You probably don't end up with Yoan, Kopech, Jimenez and the haul from the Nats. You just have no clue who would have been available. I'm done looking back...like what lies ahead. I left Eaton off intentionally to try to sweeten the case for going all in. I agree with you on the rest
  8. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) Davidson at .216/.261/.455 84 wRC+ and -0.8 WAR shouldn't really be considered a plus, he's fallen pretty hard. Also even with the above we get a wildcard at best and then we need to rebuild anyway, but this time we have fewer assets and the assets that remain have less value. I'd still rebuild. I agree about Davidson, which is why I purposely only included his home run rate. It's all about what you leave out
  9. Imagine that it's early November of 2016. You are Rick Hahn, and you are planning on rebuilding. However, you are given the following, and only the following information to try and change your mind- in 2017: -The Narvaez/Smith platoon is actually not a total offensive black hole, and they hover around a .700 OPS -Jose Abreu puts up his best season since 2014 -Yolmer- (or Carlos, as of November 2016) Sanchez becomes a very solid utility infielder with some pop -Matt Davidson's HR/162 game pace is 37 -Melky's season is very similar to his 2016 season -Avisail Garcia comes out of nowhere to become an all-star, playing passable defense while slashing .325/.372./497/.869 -Leury Garcia becomes a competent hitter -Chris Sale remains Chris Sale -The Sox on paper feature one of the best bullpens in the game, barring potential rebuilding trades -Free agent signee Anthony Swarzak ends up being a stellar reliever With only the above information, would you have changed course?
  10. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 10:18 AM) hahah right!? This team will be tragic next year. Probably about the same as this year. remember we wont have Quintana, Robertson, Swarzak, Kahnle, Melky and Frazier (barf) for half a year. That really won us some games. But we will have Moncada, Lopez, Giolito, Kopech, Jimenez, Rodon, maybe Avi/Collins/Abreu next year, plus all those decent fringe guys like Delmonico/Willy/Cordell/Leury/Yolmer. There will be growing pains but they'll still find a way to get us some wins.
  11. I just think they did more than borrow. It was like watching the same movie again- there's always a big destroyer thingy, it's always destroyed by a little flaw in its build, they always build up to the destruction of it in the same way, etc. I know "half the planet" thinks they're similar, but my opinion is unpopular because I think they're so similar to the point where TFA is not even a good movie.
  12. I still have a 6 so I look forward to getting the X. I just hope I'm able to get it sometime in November due to the limited quantity. I only want the 64 GB one so that should help my chances (?)
  13. Unpopular opinion, but to me, TFA was the same as A New Hope. Different characters, graphics, etc. but identical storyline. I didn't enjoy it. On the other hand, I loved Rogue One
  14. Don't think we'll compete for a WC but do think we'll be better than expected. I could see us winning 75-81 games.
  15. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) Who would have given us that package though? Looking back, the top farm systems at the end of 2014 were the Cubs, Twins, Astros, Red Sox, Rangers, Pirates and Dodgers. A pre-title Cubs would not be a trade partner, the Twins aren't happening, and I don't think the Pirates pull the trigger either on a Glasnow (#12)/Meadows (#30) led package. If they wouldn't this past offseason I don't think they do it in 2015 either. The Dodgers with Kershaw and Greinke are not going to be willing to part with some combination of Urias (#3)/Seager (#6)/Pederson (#11). The Red Sox were clearly intending to compete with the signings of Sandoval and Ramirez, but going by Fangraphs rankings of prospects in February 2015, their top prospects at the time were Swihart (#9), Rodriguez (#23), Owens (#33), Margot (#35) and Devers (#48). Even if we somehow got Devers as the third piece instead of the next prospect (Brian Williams at #104), is Swihart/one of Rodriguez or Owens/Devers better than what we got? Rangers had Gallo (#16), Alex Gonzalez (#27), Jake Thompson (#29), Mazara (#46), and Alfaro (#53). Would Gallo/one of Gonzalez or Thompson/one of Mazara and Alfaro be better? And that's probably unrealistic. Unless the Astros were willing to give up Correa (#5) they wouldn't beat what we got, and Appel (#18) would have been the second piece. Coming off a 92 loss season there's no way they do it. The only other team I could see being in the picture is Toronto with Norris (#17), Hoffman (#67), Sanchez (#70), Pompey (#80) and Pentecost (#93) but we'd want at least two top 50 guys and they didn't have the elite positional prospect we'd want. I'm not seeing a realistic package that would be better than what we got. Trading Sale at that time would've been a bad idea for many reasons, so I guess this is just another one. I maintain that his trade value would've been higher, but I suppose he may not have fetched a better package regardless.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) I disagree. 2 extra years of Sale proving his dominance/health isn't worth much less than 2 years of control. The Sale trade that actually went down doesn't happen that much cause teams are not gutting entire systems for 1 single player. I don't think he had anything to prove. By the start of 2015, he was the same caliber of pitcher he was when we traded him, with the same relatively clean bill of health.
  17. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 11:20 AM) Also what's the point of having the home opener on a Thursday and giving Friday off? seems real odd. They do that every year in case the first day gets rained out
  18. QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 12:11 AM) It's kind of hard to top the #1 hitting and #1 pitching prospect. Unless you're saying the Basabe / Diaz components would be better That is what I'm saying. Had this trade occurred with 2 extra years of a cheap Chris Sale, the 3rd piece would've been much better IMO. Another top 100 guy.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 04:23 PM) Returns for Sale, Q, & Eaton wouldn't have been as high I'd argue that the return for Sale would've been much higher
  20. What a string of games he's having. Truly remarkable hitting. I was hoping he'd make it to 100 RBIs, now I'd be surprised if he doesn't get to his career high (107) at this rate
