  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) The posting fee Does not count towards the luxury tax according to multiple internet sources. The only thing that counts towards the tax is the money paid to him directly through whatever contract he signs. OK, so then they have enough money to sign him.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2014 -> 10:56 AM) So, prior to today, the Yankees would have been $0.2 million over the luxury tax when they completed Roberts's deal. The Yankees appear to have $27.3 million to spend this year without hitting the luxury tax level. So does that include the $20MM posting fee?
  3. Definitely approve.
  4. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) Except the part where many thought that LeBron was going to the Heat in the first place and nobody really knows where Tanaka might go. Plus the situation for both at the time isnt remotely close. But other than that yeah its similar. Many think Tanaka is going to the Yankees (including me). Yes the situations are different but I'm just saying I feel the same way. False hope until the last second.
  5. This feels like how the Bulls pitched to LeBron. We declined to comment until after The Decision, and it turns out he pretty much knew where he was going before the meetings ("I decided this morning" was B.S.).
  6. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 06:15 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN 5m Hahn said meeting was "exploratory in nature." #WhiteSox Translation: Tanaka will not sign with us.
  7. Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN 4m #WhiteSox will abstain from any further comments until Masahiro Tanaka makes his final decision.
  8. Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN 5m Rick Hahn, Kenny Williams and Robin Ventura met with Masahiro Tanaka today in LA. Hahn said meeting was "exploratory in nature." #WhiteSox
  9. I'd like to be the FIRST to say, congrats, Frank!
  10. I'm gonna blow Frank's numbers out of the water.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:19 PM) Let's all laugh at this Facebook comment: "Jack Morris shouldve made it! He had the most wins in the 80s!" QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) He also had 169 complete games, three world series rings (1 times world series MVP), started three all-star games, was the undisputed ace on most of his teams, something like 500 consecutive starts without missing a turn into the rotation, all while spending the majority of his time pitching in a hitters paradise. Maybe his ERA and WHIP are higher than you'd like, but I see no reason why that should be held against him because he did win and he was extremely clutch and you could always count on him for a big game. The guy was a winner. I don't understand why he shouldn't have been elected, but hopefully he'll make it with the Veterans Committee down the line. However, this thread is about Frank and it is a special honor. I think the steroid era did negatively effect his performance to because he eventually went away from his opposite field approach that he had in his best years and I feel like he tried to pull the ball and hit more home runs when he had to compete with all these guys juicing up. I'm not saying that Morris should not have made it. My intention was that this person thinks that his win number is the deciding factor (rather than what you said). We all know a pitcher's win count means nothing.
  12. Oh, and this too: "If Bagwell had played in Chicago and Thomas in Houston, NO DOUBT that Baggy would be a HOFer!!!"
  13. Let's all laugh at this Facebook comment: "Jack Morris shouldve made it! He had the most wins in the 80s!"
  14. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 06:08 PM) Needless to say... Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 14m While it has been reported White Sox are meeting with Tanaka this week, they wouldn't be considered major players there at this point Expand I mean, we can't just be meeting with him for the hell of it. Let's at least give the Yankees a challenge.
  15. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) Spitballing here. What about Erik Johnson and Alejando De Aza to the Padres for Grandal? I like it but they wouldn't go for that
  16. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) That's Tim Beckham, former 1st pick overall. Yes, but the name of the person who asked the question was Gordon Beckham.
  17. And a humorous Gordon Beckham question at 238. http://www.coveritlive.com/index2.php/opti...m/titlePage=off
  18. Question was answered at 2:26.
  19. In an MLBTR live chat, Steve Adams said that he thinks Jose Lobaton would be a good fit here. http://www.coveritlive.com/index2.php/opti...m/titlePage=off

  21. OT but not deserving of a thread, how come I can't see my sent messages even though I know I've sent a few today?
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) No one would mind if you asked someone to send it to you as a private message.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 5, 2014 -> 08:37 AM) Soxtalk's administrators don't like for us to do this, as it can ultimately get this site in trouble. If anyone wants to share, do it via a few select snippets and paraphrasing My bad. I tried looking up a bunch of ways to read it for free, but they didn't work. I seriously considered buying a one-month membership just to read it, but then realized I could ask an Insider.
  24. Can an ESPN Insider copy and paste this for us? http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/hotstove13/...team-winter-mlb
  25. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 4, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) It's weird when you refer to yourself in the third person. I'm sorry, I'm typing through a translator. Sé español.
