McGuire Throws Shade at Sox Clubhouse
TheFutureIsNear replied to CWSpalehoseCWS's topic in The Diamond Club
Commanders, Cowboys, Raiders, Knicks…can’t win with bad ownership and the Sox (and Bulls) are 100% in that category. -
I think we have to accept that Gio isn’t going to be the ace we once thought/hoped, but I’ll happily take what he gave us last night going forward. He’s actually been very solid in his last 10 starts….with the exception of 2 blow ups. He’s obviously going to need to avoid that, but I don’t see a guy that is “done” at all. I expect him to continue a career of throwing 175ish inning with an era in the high 3’s/low 4’s.

8/12 Gamethread: Tigers @ Sox, Norris v. Kopech
TheFutureIsNear replied to KrankinSox's topic in 2022 Season in Review
These 2 teams should have a rock-paper-sciossors competition or something…no one should be subjected to this kind of torture watching these offenses -
Yeah I just don’t get the slow approach with Colas. It’s obvious the talent/bat speed/everything else is there. Usually with prospects you worry about their mental maturity, but I don’t think Colas is a normal prospect in that regard either. We are talking about a kid who left home at 18 to play pro ball across the world. Not sure the moment will be too big for him

Someone would have to explain the analytics to me that say to shade the RF to center when a LH pull hitter is up -

Pretty hard to justify wasting a Saturday afternoon watching this team score less than 4 runs -
What’s Vaughn’s offensive ceiling?
TheFutureIsNear replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’m going to wait to see a new coaching staff until I worry about the lack of extra base hits. It’s an epidemic across the entire team, I’m willing to go out on a limb and say there may be a common denominator causing it. I don’t think Vaughn will ever be a consistent 30+ hr guy, but 20-25 with a lot of doubles with an average/obp around .300/.350 is in his future I think. -

Jose with the bail out. Amazing to see a ball in the air -

Has it ever been explained why this team has experienced an epidemic of ground balls? Is this really Menechino’s philosophy? -

Not going all-in was/is the smartest thing the front office has done in a while -
Not sure (or care) how the $ would work out, but wouldn’t hate taking Wil Myers off the Padres hands if they are trying to salary dump him

I think that If they are both hitting we would be more than happy with a LF/DH split of Eloy and Vaughn. Robert (when not dizzy) is more than good enough to cover up for a slight liability in LF, just need to avoid Eloy and Vaughn in the same OF at all costs. Find the ever elusive (to the Sox) LH RF that can hit and field we’ll be more than fine.

Cease and Kopech are legit, that’s a great start. I still believe in Gio to at least be a solid #3. Lynn’s best days are for sure behind him, but hopefully he can at least be serviceable and eat innings. Robert, TA, Vaughn, are all legit…and there’s no reason to believe Abreu is going to slow down in the next 2 years at this point. No doubt Eloy and Yoan are disappointments and never going to live up to the potential…but I refuse to believe they are actually this bad. I do think they will bounce back to above average going forward. Yaz is a sunk cost, he’s washed and shouldn’t be used as more than a platoon C. Although expensive, the bullpen is actually pretty good when/if healthy. Fire Hahn and LaRussa and hire a GM from outside of the organization who hires a head coach from outside of the organization. Pretend like last off-season didn’t happen and go back to finding a LH hitting corner OF’er, 2B and quality starter and give it another run. Next trade deadline will be the breaking point on whether to tear it back down again or not.

7 innings 2 ER without a slider is a huge win for Kopech and the team. Unfortunately the offense doesn’t have a pulse and is going to potentially ruin a good hard fought battle for Kopech -

Mehh I’m not blaming Seby for Kopech not being able to throw a breaking pitch. -

The slider is awful…but keep throwing it. Just dumb all around. Zeby shouldn’t even call that pitch again
