I haven’t bought 1 (yet), but I know a few people with these boxes and they swear by them.

Yeah it probably means only keeping 1 of the rule 5’s, but don’t know how realistic that both were going to make it anyway. Not going to pretend to have a strong opinion on either guy, but we’ll see if they push the issue of making the roster. In theory Taylor could be sent down to continue to work as a starter if both rule 5’s deserve a roster spot. If Fedde doesn’t grab the 5th spot I think it will be 1 of Newcomb, Vasil, or Hicks. I think the signing just (thankfully) eliminates the possibility of Cannon making the OD roster. 13 pitchers on the OD roster: Smith-Martin-Burke-Kay-? Fedde, Newcomb, Vasil, Hicks, Leasure, Taylor, Dominguez, 2nd Lefty, Rule 5 (Yes, Newcomb being the 5th starter would complicate all of that)

Mehh for that amount of $ he’s worth a shot to see if there’s any life left. I highly doubt it, but worst case he can eat innings as the long man out of the pen for a few months…someone’s going to have to do that job.

Curious to see what the remaining free agent starters like Gio/Littell/Buehler get compared to $8M for Hicks. Obviously the extra added value or Sandlin has to be factored in too. But regardless whether this deal ends up as an actual needle mover or not, it is slightly refreshing to see available pay roll space being used to acquire young talent.

Not really “hot stove” but a very “White Sox” thing going on

Mehh when you have an owner that actively doesn’t care about the team you can’t expect the rest of the country to. I too often wish I could pretend like the White Sox don’t exist

White Sox sign RHP Seranthony Domínguez, 2/20M
TheFutureIsNear replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Actually very interesting. Value will only go up if he’s successfully closing games for us. Difficult for my fingers to type this…but good move Getz -
LJRDS- A condition that will need to be studied later on. A lot of complaining over a guy incapable of hitting a baseball at a major league level. It’s very obvious to me the league adjusted to Robert and he never cared/tried to adjust back. He’s been making the same terrible swings at bad pitches for multiple years in row. MAYBE this will be his wake-up call and someone can get through to him in a different organization, but his time was more than done in Chicago.

Robert Thread: Sox talking to Reds, Mets

Good for you on that opinion. I’m done arguing with people about Robert. Hopefully you can come back to this post and point out that I’m wrong -
Robert Thread: Sox talking to Reds, Mets

Most likely a 1 year prove it deal that is heavy with incentives. $8-10 base salary. I would think the fact that Robert is still on this team should speak volumes to what the rest of the league thinks of him. -

I live in the area and can report that Phillies fans are going to riot on Dombroski if the Phillies don’t make a move after losing Bo to the rival Mets. If they miss on Bellinger it would be nice if Dombroski feels the pressure and makes a move for Robert. -

Count me in as another person done with the Robert era. I’m over gambling on the resurgence and don’t want to be left holding the bag of just paying him to continue to be bad on a bad team. Get what you can and continue to turn the page of the dreadful past few years of this organization. Jerry needs to not be Jerry and eat $ to maximize the return though -
Can the this team be competitive in 2026?
TheFutureIsNear replied to thxfrthmmrs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If everything goes well I could see 75 wins…which is competitive compared to the past 2 years. Still a good bit to go in order to be actually competitive in terms of making a serious playoff run though. -
Add 1 more bat at RF or 3B and figure out who deserves a starting spot between Vargas/Sosa/Baldwin/insert name of fringe player on the roster

Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
TheFutureIsNear replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Like I said I don’t want him…but depending on the prospect return it could be well worth it. It’s only a 1 year so the risk is pretty minimal. Castellanos has been at odds with Thompson/the Phillies for a couple of years. Who knows, maybe if you give him the RF job with no pressure he can turn back into the .250/.315/.470 hitter with 30+ HR power. No doubt he’s an awful RF that drags down his value, but 20 HR’s with a respectable WRC+ at the deadline could draw trade interest as a platoon/DH for a playoff team. Eisert for Casty, Jean Cabrera, and Carson Demartini? -
Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
TheFutureIsNear replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’d like to see $ spent via an “eating a contract” trade that also nets prospects. Who’s a player that can actually start and be a useful piece while also getting prospect value back? I don’t WANT him…but what kind of prospect(s) do you think we could get back from the Phillies if we took on Castellanos and his full $20M? Casty could easily hit 30 HR’s in our stadium and get traded again at the deadline too. Other names? -
Per Passan: White Sox sign Munetaka Murakami 2 years 34M
TheFutureIsNear replied to GreatScott82's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would still like to see 1 more bat added to be honest. I think there’s enough arms in the organization to eat innings, and the $ we are going to spend on a pitcher probably isn’t going to get any real difference maker. Get another viable bat at either 3B or RF and put a solid and exciting lineup out there. -

TheFutureIsNear replied to GreatScott82's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Do they really have a choice? His value certainly hasn’t gone up since getting hurt again at the end of the year. The front office is pretty pot committed to Robert at this point, dumping him for some mediocre prospects wouldn’t make any sense -
This team is still so far away that worrying about position fit shouldn’t be a worry at the moment. Unless Quero/his agent are pushing for a full time catching gig only, I don’t see why you can’t get all these guys AB’s. We don’t have a clear 1B or DH option.

Dylan Cease to TOR, $210mil/7 years

100%. I think “value” has become a coping mechanism for fans of loser franchises. And I say that as a fan of several loser franchises. -

Good for everyone around Don’t get me wrong, there’s a chance the Jays absolutely regret this…but at least they are going for it. Must be nice -
SoxMachine Podcast on Free Agent Pitchers
TheFutureIsNear replied to WestEddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We definitely need a reliable arm that can throw at least a solid 160+ innings. I think there’s enough young arms to continue the “throw everything at the wall and see what sticks” mentality of rebuilding…and don’t commit to anyone as a reliever until you have to. But 1 steadying arm behind Smith should be a priority. Unfortunately that’s going to be easier said than done with a free agent SP on Jerry’s budget. -
Outside the Box: Trade Cease+ for Daulton Varsho+
TheFutureIsNear replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No, I’d simply like you to show me a stat that shows Varsho has any value as a hitter. But if makes you feel better to cherry pick the 1 stat that overvalues defense and gives validity to your nonsensical argue…you do you man.
