A national media guy isn’t going to be aware of a managerial interview? Could be wrong, but doesn’t seem likely. Wouldn’t a potential manager’s agent want that public for his client? I also could say you have a lot more faith in the Sox competence to keep an apparent secret (no idea why it would be) from leaking. No way they have everything in that tight of order. I’m not saying there has to be a grand conspiracy behind this. They just might not have conducted interviews YET.
-
Has there been a single report of an interview happening though? I know is still a little early with the playoffs still going on, but I feel like we would have heard SOMETHING if an interview occurred. Hell, if it was a different franchise we would probably know the flight # the potential coach flew in on.
-
Obviously no one is going to be able to turn bad players into good players, but a manager can definitely bring a culture shift to the locker room and dugout. That’s really the most important part, bringing in someone that is going to change the way this team has been doing things for a decade +.
-
And what value was that? At best you were trading him for the hitting version of himself…a lotto ticket that hasn’t realized any minor league success. Every organization has 5 Mena’s, never was, nor ever will be, a legit prospect. Takeout the undeserved early promotions and no one cares about Mena
-
Christian Mena continues to be the most over hyped prospect without ever actually producing on the field. Don’t get me wrong, I get that Fletcher has little, if any, value…but robbery implies that you gave something up of value. We’ll see if Mena ever adds value to a major league roster

There will always be an option for a 26 year old former top 10 pick. Not saying he’s going to be handed a starting job, but you’re also only looking at it from 1 perspective. You don’t think Vaughn wants a fresh start from this hell hole of an organization?
-
Why on earth would Vaughn choose to come back if he’s DFA’d? Why wouldn’t Houston (or any other team) sign him for $2M if that’s all it takes? It’s DFA Vaughn and say your goodbyes OR overpay him by $4M(ish) for 1 more year and pray for a miracle with a new coaching staff. Like I said, I don’t really care either way, but I don’t see a world where an in between exists.
-
Vaughn stinks and isn’t worth $6M…but there is still a 1 in a million “what if” chance he figures something out. I don’t think you can say the same for any of the alternatives. And I don’t care if Jerry saves $3-4M on the bottom shelf budget. Not like that $ is going to be used productively. Don’t get me wrong, I won’t be sad if Vaughn goes, but the $ part of it is meaningless to me

Fangraphs Article About Managerial Candidates
TheFutureIsNear replied to Boopa1219's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Rodney Linares is a name that fits somewhere in between up-and-comer and coaching staff lifer that I like. Son of a former player and coach that started out with the Astro’s as an instructor at the age of 21. Has been with 2 stellar organizations in the Astros and Rays in a variety of ways from Minor league Manager, 3rd base coach, and bench coach. Also managed the DR in the WBC. -
So lower body soft tissue injuries are preventing him from making contact with a baseball?…For the majority of his career? Also, he’s a grown man and a professional athlete. Does he not take any responsibility for keeping his body ready to perform? There’s plenty of other guys in the organization that haven’t had the injuries he’s had. More or less just Robert, TA and Yoan that have had constant soft tissue injuries…and that’s not great company
-
As much as I want to blame the Sox for everything, I’m not sure how plate discipline and pitch recognition is on the coaches after a certain point. Robert’s lack of on base ability is actually pretty impressive. Take out his great, yet short, stretch in 2021 and Robert’s career OBP is like .305 in 1600+ PA’s…just can’t have sustained success like that and eventually it’s on him to figure it out. But of course I do think the Sox are to blame for some of his troubles, I just don’t like taking away accountability from a professional not doing their job
-
3 year deal starting now. Figure out what 2 years of Arb is worth + fair amount in year 3. Guessing somewhere between 40-45M for 3 years? Again, I don’t think this will actually happen. Just could make sense for both sides.
-
I could maybe see a 3 year deal happening. Crochet wanting to cash in now to guarantee his long term future incase of injury makes sense. He would still hit free agency before 30 with a 3 year deal. Who knows if the 2 sides could agree to a # that works for both tho. Most likely not given that Jerry won’t want to spend more than ever after a year of down attendance.
-
Eloy, TA, Moncada…remember when we thought we had the start of an amazing core? Crazy that isn’t possible all 3 of them won’t be able to find a job on a MLB roster next year.

New White Sox social media manager or strategy?
TheFutureIsNear replied to Balta1701's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah I’ll take an attempt at humor (could have been much better) over keeping the status quo as if something insanely bad isn’t happening Also nothing worse than seeing the few good moments of the season posted to social media. Really not necessary to post about an Andrew Benintendi HR while the team is in the midst of a 2-17 streak. Read the room -
Sox hire David Keller from NYM to run int'l scouting
TheFutureIsNear replied to soxfan49's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Maybe this is ignorant, but is it normal to hire a guy named David to handle international scouting? I get that this is probably a desk job with scouts bringing him info, but I would still think someone more familiar with Latin American baseball would make sense. Then again I of course couldn’t name a single person with this position in other organizations so maybe it’s not abnormal -
Definitely C. Especially for Peavy, he clearly wasn’t going to come out and trash the organization unprovoked. Even in this he was still saying how much he liked the people in the organization despite them being bad at their jobs. And articles like the Athletic? If you give people a reason to dig they will find stuff. And quite frankly, no one should be quiet about the utter disaster this organization is. JR deserves to be embarrassed.
-
I ALMOST feel bad for Pedro. Don’t get me wrong, he was obviously vastly under qualified for the job, but what an insanely bad situation to walk into. His agent for sure should have talked him out of this job. He’s going to have a stink on him forever. Which makes me extremely nervous for this off-season…who in their right mind wants to walk into a 4 year (that’s probably generous) rebuild? Any young/1st time coach would be crazy to take the job which means it’s almost definitely going to be a retread/place holder at manager.

Getz help KC LAD make Top Ten deadline additions
TheFutureIsNear replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’m just preparing myself for when Kopech is somehow a good starter for the Dodgers next year. Lopez Version 2.0 -
Francona would be damn near 70 by the time the team even has a shot of competing. Doesn’t make sense for either side. Going to have to be someone that is in it for the long haul and prepared to build a new culture from scratch…which is going to be much easier said than done of course.
-
Sad state of affairs when I check the box scores and see the Sox win and I’m disappointed. I don’t think it’s possible, but these jerks better not rob us of the record season. I want the embarrassment for everyone involved

Sox "gathering names" in MGR search
TheFutureIsNear replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Rodney Linares is the guy they should go after. But he may have other options, which pretty much eliminates us -
They need to just give up on him his a starter. Stick him in the big league pen next year and see if he survives. If not just move on. He’s about to be 26, pretty much in “lost cause” territory.
-
Curious to see if he can continue the high level D in CF with Robert out now. A .700 OPS (still a big IF he’s capable) and strong CF D is actually a pretty useful player
