2024 Official Draft Thread - Day 1
TheFutureIsNear replied to GGajewski18's topic in FutureSox Board
No issue with the pick at all. Would have been perfectly fine with any of Cags, Smith or Burns. -
Might not be popular, but I’m taking 1 of the pitchers (Smith or Burns) over Griffin…or any hitter besides the top 4. I know it doesn’t fit the needs of the franchise, but I just think they are superior prospects. With the state of the franchise I’d still be in the mode of “get all the best talent available and sort it out later.” Don’t force a pick just because it’s a hitter
-
I’m fine taking Cags at 5. It’s just not a strong draft class and he at least has 1 elite tool with his lefty power. Also, I’ve seen it floated around, but is there any reason Cags couldn’t play RF? He’s not a bad athlete and clearly has the arm strength for it.

Sounds like a delicious sandwich

My issue with trading Crochet now is my concern that a contending team can’t trade for Crochet thinking they have a TOR arm for the entirety of the 2nd 1/2 and playoffs. I just don’t see a way Chrochet is able to throw that many innings. Obviously he has plenty of value beyond the next few months, but typically you can capitalize on the best value when a team is desperate at the deadline. Of course there’s also the risk that Crochet is currently having what could be his career year and he’ll never have this high of value again.
-
Who will be traded by the deadline?
TheFutureIsNear replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Trade Winds 2024
I don’t think it’s going to be a ton of moves as everyone is predicting. I can see it being just Feede, Kopech and Pham. Pulling off 6/7+ trades in the next 24 days seems like a tall task for Getz. -
I don’t know if (relatively minor) leg injuries take away your ability to make contact with a baseball. I think it’s like 90% mental for TA. Don’t want to go as far to say I feel bad for him, but it does suck to see. The guy was damn near on the top of the world hitting that walk off at the field of dreams game and in less than 3 years he can’t find a job. Sports are crazy

Combined no-hitter watch for the Cannon Ballers going into the 9th.
-
At least Burger proved to be a fluke…but Eder is starting to look like a lost cause as well. He’ll be 26 in a few months and he’s still struggling in AA. Is it time to cut bait with him as a starter and just see if he can hack it as a lefty reliever?
-
Also have to mention the $142M pay roll. I know Getz inherited a few bad contracts, but can’t just ignore that we have this bad of a roster with a middle of the league payroll
-
Was just thinking that. Is there a counter that compares our # of roster moves Vs the rest of the league? Feel like Getz is doing the most literal example of “shuffling the chairs on the Titanic” ever.
-
Yeah this is dumb. Leave the actual prospects alone and far away from the toxic pit that is the White Sox.

Story on Sox trade possibilities...
TheFutureIsNear replied to Lip Man 1's topic in Trade Winds 2024
Not saying he will have a ton of value if he doesn’t start to pitch better…but I’d imagine there’s a decent # of teams looking at Kopech and thinking they can “fix” him if he gets away from the Sox. Or at least that would be my thinking. Maybe I’m jaded and overly negative, but it’s hard for me to not think some of our guys would have succeeded in a different organization. -
https://www.fangraphs.com/players/rafael-ortega/10323/stats?position=OF Just another 30+ year old bad journeyman. Getz is shuffling the chairs on the Titanic full of guys trying to hang on to a baseball career for dear life

Who would you pick to replace Grifol? Outside the box answers only.

What’s Ned Yost up to these days? Might as well finish this disaster off with the final Royals infinity stone. -

I set the O/U in run differential for this 3 game series at 18.5 before yesterday’s game…I was way too optimistic -

What’s a safe run differential in the 3 game series? Over/under has to be like 18.5 -
Cool. That’s 1 more skill than 75% of our MLB roster right now
-
Did you just describe cancer as “all types of bullshit”?
-
I think he’s talking about the complete lack of attempt at building a team that can realistically compete. Not that Jerry needs an excuse to not spend money, he doesn’t give a damn either way

Luis Robert right hip flexor injury
TheFutureIsNear replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You have to cut the head off to really get rid of that “stank”…Hahn wasn’t the head -
We’ll see as the season progresses, but I was in favor of trading Burger because I didn’t think he would be able to maintain a respectable average/OBP. So far I’m very wrong on Burger.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/39853186/mlb-2024-rankings-most-fun-teams-watch-braves-orioles-dodgers-cubs 29. Chicago White Sox(12) Star power: 2 | Youth: 1 | Baserunning: 2 | Catches: 3 | 425+: 2 | Minutiae: 1 Bonus: 1, for the new "campfire milkshake" concession item I'm pretty sure Luis Robert Jr. accounts for most of these points, from 4-star catches to speed on the bases to long home runs. The White Sox have done a nice job improving what was a weak farm system just a couple of years ago, but only Colson Montgomery is likely to make much of a contribution this season, so this rebuild is filled with older players. Unfortunately, "veteran leadership" does not score well in watchability. And looks like only the campfire milkshake kept us from being dead last. Way to go Jerry.

White Sox bring Mike Clevinger back, pending physical
TheFutureIsNear replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Mehh I don’t care. I know it’s a cardinal sin to say the Sox aren’t 100% inept, but if Clevinger was a problem in the clubhouse he wouldn’t be back. Flexen is bad enough that the Sox might get investigated for deliberate tanking if they continue to run him out there. And we can only count on so many innings from Crochet, Nastrini, and MAYBE Eder. There’s 100+ innings that will have to be mopped up. Might as well be Clevinger, regardless of some fans’ hurt feelings. -
Am I the only 1 that still can’t get over how horribly the Oscar Colas situation has gone? In 1 calendar year we went from having a top 100 prospect who was too good to leave in the minors, to signing scraps late in spring to play over him. Was Colas that immature/unprofessional? Just seems like Getz and crew made it apparent that Colas was never going to get a shot at the RF job from the beginning. And I’m not saying Colas has really earned anything, but with the state of this organization doesn’t it make sense to just give him a shot to bounce back?
