  1. Haseley Adell Beck Smith White Hall Pratto That's about my wishlist of realistic targets in order, although 2-4 could probably be shuffled in any order.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) Why don't you like JB? Short right hander with a violent delivery...sound familiar? Not saying he can't succeed in the MLB, but I think it will most likely be in the bullpen if he does. That's if he manages to avoid arm troubles...he does pretty much everything you don't want to see a young pitcher do in terms of mechanics. Obviously anybody can hurt their arm pitching, but his odds are exponentially greater with how he throws in my opinion. There's a bunch of breakdowns of him on youtube (good info here if you get past the ridiculous talking skeleton. just start at the 3 minute mark if you watch)
  3. Kendall and Bukauskas are the only 2 picks I'll actually be upset with and seem to be the 2 most mocked to us. Hopefully the mocks are all wrong...
  4. Evan White a right handed version of Cody Bellinger? What does everyone think of that comp and the value at pick #11?
  5. Add me to the Evan White bandwagon
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 05:35 PM) Wouldn't this result in a lot of LH 1b's available after round 1 though? Well do you feel like this is a normal draft class in terms of top 11 talent? Because I sure don't. Like I said, going 1B may be the safe easy way out, but it's a lot better than striking out on another toolsy player with a questionable hit tool. I don't feel like we can afford another 1st round miss. Let's just all cross our fingers and hope Haseley falls and we can all be happy. Hopefully we can agree on that.
  7. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 04:35 PM) It's not that -- it's how rarely college 1b prospects actually work out. The vast majority of big league first baseman were drafted at other positions and just grew out of them. I'm honestly not about to do all of the research to prove my point, but I feel like your point is a lot more true for RH hitters than LH. If you're LH and have a certain body type 9/10 you're going to play 1B in college, just the way it is. Personally, I don't want to take a risk on a guy who clearly doesn't have as good of a hit tool because of what position they play when we have an organization devoid of capable MLB quality hitters. Clearly I'm in the vast minority on this and that's fine. Trust me, I see the other side of wanting to take the higher ceiling player at a premium position, its not exactly rocket science that they are harder to find and in higher demand. But I personally would rather take the surer thing at 11 in what I feel is a weak top of the draft class and gamble in rounds 2-6.
  8. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) Does he go on the 25 man roster or minors Believe he has to go through waivers to go to the minors...which I doubt would be a problem since it seems highly unlikely intone would carry him on their majors roster. Don't see how this is anything anyone could possibly be upset about though. Just a possible reclamation project to have in the minors. This is the type of thing bad teams should do.
  9. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) I'd be surprised if Haseley, Beck and Kendall are all still on the board for us. Haseley is unlikely to fall out of the top ten given how good his season was. Although considered a "safe" pick, I would not draft Pavin Smith in the top 10. First base is such an easy position to fill that I would be looking for more upside with a top ten selection. Smith does not have the necessary speed to play in the outfield either. There are currently only 13 1b in the league with an OPS over .800. Only 11 last year at the end of the season. I think many on this board are too worried about position value over getting the best bat available.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) I would be furious if we took Pratto and I don't really understand the logic behind it. If I'm taking a high schooler they better damn well be a short stop, pitcher or center fielder. Because I'm more worried about drafting a good baseball player than an athlete. Like I said, I know it would be unpopular but Pratto has 1 of the best swings and patient approaches. Give me the guy that knows how to hit over an athlete you hope develops.
  11. Halsey is definitely the ideal pick for me @ 11. If he's not there I'd take an underslit gamble on either Burger or Prato. I know both wouldn't be popular picks but I just don't like some of these guys being mocked in the 9-12 range.
  12. Not only is Bukauskas a small right handed college pitcher like Fulmer, but they also both have violent deliveries. Jb seems like he has to generate a lot of torque in his upper body/shoulder rather than with his lower body like he should. Could very easily lead to arm trouble later.
  13. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) I think the biggest question is if he can stay at third. Usually college third basemen are not the best defenders. Not going to pretend to have seen him play or know much about his glove work but this is from his college profile.... "Also voted as the top defensive third baseman in all of Division I baseball with his selection to the ABCA's Rawlings Gold Glove Team" Don't think I've read a scouting report on him that has concerns about him not sticking at 3rd either.
  14. Can someone tell me what the issue with Burger is? Is that he goes to a small school? He shows + power, is walking more than K'ing, and and has good contact skills. So is it level of competition? Or that he's not a great athlete? To me he seems like a low floor, but still high ceiling prospect that should be in high consideration for pick #11.
  15. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 31, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) Kendall and Adell are 1A & 1B for me. If somehow J.B Bukauskas slips to 11, I'd run to the podium and make him my selection. Bukauskas is a 6' righty with a lot of effort in his delivery...reminds me of a certain extremely questionable 1st round pick we already have in the organization. No thanks. I'd also be very surprised if he doesn't have a major arm injury within 2/3 years
  16. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ May 30, 2017 -> 11:04 PM) If Hostetler's changes are a legitimate thing, I would think Hiura would be the pick unless Haseley or Smith is there. Hiura fits the Collins/Call/Fisher profile, whereas Kendall fits the Hawkins/Walker/Mitchell profile. Exactly what I was thinking and exactly what I don't want. Give me a baseball player over an athlete with a high ceiling.
  17. Not going to pretend I've done a bunch of scouting on these prospects, but I'm tired of + tool prospects that isn't a hit tool. Also don't care about premium positions for that matter. Let's get a guy who has a good shot of being a good professional hitter for once? This organization has a serious lack of them. If Burger or Hiura are the pick I won't be upset, although I'd prefer 1 of the kids from Virginia if possible.
  18. I think Davidson is the most likely to be able to continue what he is currently doing...although his average will drop some. Leury is more of a 4th OF'er/utility guy. Which isn't a bad thing. Yolmer is probably hitting over his head right now...although I think he too can be a useful bench piece, possibly even a league average 2B
  19. Hit tool just isn't good enough for Engel to think he'll ever be more than a 4th OF'er, nothing to get excited about. Probably a Drew Stubbs 2.0
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 25, 2017 -> 06:34 PM) No idea why the sox just don't put him in LF and leave him there. Unless his range at 3B is so good and he just makes bone headed errors (ala Jose Valentin). From all reports though, he's a butcher over there. Why not 1B? He can't be any worse than Jose and we don't have much else at the position.
  21. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ May 23, 2017 -> 10:54 PM) I'm definitely OK with the offseason trades, but imagine where this team would be with Sale pitching every 5 days instead of Covey who basically gives up a run an inning. Doesn't take much imagining to know the Sox still wouldn't be a playoff team
  22. 294 AB's in '14 at AAA and 298 AB's last year in the majors. Other than that he hasn't really shown the ability to be a competent hitter above high A. I think he's just hitting like...Tyler Saladino, which is a glove 1st bench player. Nice utility infielder to have on the bench, but I'd say your expectations were too high if you were expecting him to be a good hitter this year.
  23. To me the obvious problem is that he tries to pull every pitch, regardless of location or speed. Can't be a major league hitter like that unless you have ridiculously fast and strong hands. Frazier isn't that guy. The only pitches he's going to hit are mistakes since every pitcher in baseball is going to know what he's looking for and how he's going to swing. And the sad part is that he's going on 700-800 PA's like this and there have been 0 adjustments. Don't see it changing anytime soon either, he's pretty much toast as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately he's most likely going to be trotted out there on a daily basis for the foreseeable future. Chicago White Sox: where hitters go to die. It really is crazy
  24. QUOTE (ron883 @ May 4, 2017 -> 01:42 AM) In the world of 1st basemen. And yet it was good for 10th best in the league last year for 1B...so again, in what world does 10th out of 32 = pedestrian? Your expectations are just way too high based on his 1st year. Considering what he is paid relative to the other top 1B getting an .820 OPS out of him is perfectly fine. Now him not being a full time DH is another discussion...but out of all the things wrong with the Sox organization you seriously choose to spend your time and energy bashing Abreu's hitting?
  25. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for tanking and everything...but WOW that lineup is awful.
