Groome, Chavis, and Ockimey? Hard to imagine what a trade could be given what they have left and Groome being so young/far alway. Can’t see how an Abreu for JBJ trade makes sense, that’s only 1 year of added team control for Bradley vs Abreu right?

Looks For A Match In A Jose Abreu Trade
TheFutureIsNear replied to GenericUserName's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 04:37 PM) Not even close. Murphy failed miserably last season. He's not as good as Kevin Smith. Rockies would include Rodgers, Tapia, and Pint for Abreu. Murphy had 280 AB’s all of last year and 26 were at the major league level. And you wrote him off already lol? And keep dreaming if you think we are getting all 3 of those prospects -

Abreu to Rockies for McMahon, Tom Murphy, and Ryan Castellini -
Jose Abreu traded to Rockies for Ryan McMahon, Tom Murphy and Ryan Castellani. Avi traded to Diamondbacks for Jasrado Chisholm, Socrates Brito, and Cody Reed. Free Agent Signings- Jake McGee, Luke Gregerson, and Jeremy Hellickson

White Sox Trade: James Shields and Kevan Smith for Adrian Gonzalez, Yasmany Grandal, Brock Stewart, and $5-8M in cash (sox take on about $10mil in salary) White Sox trade: Carson Fulmer for Maikel Franco (Despite his 20 or so solid innings at the end of the year I'm not a Fulmer beliver) White Sox sign: Jeremy Hellickson 1 year $8M with a team option, Steve Cishek 2 years $14M, Kevin Siegrest 1 year $3M, David Hernandez 1 year $5M, Jarrod Dyson 2 years $12M LF- Dyson 2B-Moncada DH- Abreu 1B- Gonzalez 3B- Franco RF- Avi C- Grandal SS- Anderson CF- Leury Bench- Yolmer, Davidson, Delmonico, Navarez Giolito Lopez Stewart Hellickson ?(someone to eat innings until we have a call up or 2 ready) Bullpen- Petricka, Putnam, Siegrest Hernandez, Cishek....or something like that. The bullpen is probably going to be a mess regardless. The rebuild is still fully on, but we'd be potentially putting a fun offense out there with some young pitchers. And both Gonzalez and Grandal are free agents after 2018 so there's no added $ to the payroll for when we could potentially be set up to make a big splash in free agency after 2018.

Would St Louis even be in the market for an OF’er like Avi? Did I miss a rumor or something? They already have Grichuk, Pham, Piscotty, and Fowler with Bader knocking on the door for a spot on the big league club. Don’t think I’d be trading for Avi if I were them thinking I’m getting a significant upgrade to my OF.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 06:35 PM) Ha well somebody has to physically throw the baseball. You could argue rushing guys like Guerrero & Stephens to start the season since the big dogs like Kopech & Hansen will get more time in the minors...and maybe just Hansen. Giolito Lopez Shields That's it right now for start of the season right? Almost have to let Fulmer try to build on his success from the end of the season don’t you? That’s what I would do at least...feel like giving him a rotation spot could give him some confidence and hopefully keep him in whatever groove he was in for his last 25 innings or so last year.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) That sounds like a contributor to a championship team, but the Dodgers aren't likely to just give him away if he's that good. They'll likely want prospects that the White Sox shouldn't be giving up for him. Also really like the idea of Joc...wonder if a Joc for Nate Jones trade would make sense? Definitely some debate there tho...1)Would we be selling low on an injured jones? 2) would the dodgers even be interested without seeing him healthy 1st?

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 16, 2017 -> 08:56 AM) You're right that there's no room for him in PHI, but Franco's a bust. I'm okay with giving a post-hype sleeper a shot, but I wouldn't trade prospects we like and AREN'T busts. You're right that they're going to have to move someone (Kingery is the best prospect in the system, IMO, btw), but they'd have to drop it pretty low to be worth it. I wouldn't give up Dunning. Im not quite as down on Franco as you, but Fair enough. Would you give up something like Stephens and Adams or still too much?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 16, 2017 -> 11:25 AM) But probably doesn't fit the type of player we are going to go after this winter. Seeing Franco mentioned earlier, I think they both fall into the same bucket. I don't see the Sox giving up any assets with future value to bring guys here this winter. Unless we get those guys in deals involved Avi or Abreu, I can't see it happening. The Sox aren't to the point where deals involving assets with potential future value at this stage of the rebuild. MAYBE next year, but not this year. Even if the asset(s) in return have future potential and are under team control for 3+ years? I know the old saying, and it is mostly true, you can never have too much pitching...BUT we need to get more young bats into the system as well sooner rather than later. I would have suggested a Fulmer swap for Franco but Fulmer’s signs of life at the end of the year bought him more time. I agree with not trading the 4 or 5 guys that have TOR potential, but I could definitely see us using some combo of Adams, Stephens, Guerrero, Clarkin type package to acquire another young hitter. At least that’s what I’m hoping...If we can’t form a good future pitching staff out of Lopez, Gio, Fulmer, Cease, Rondon, Kopech, Hansen, Dunning, and Burdi then things have gone horribly wrong and we should just give up.

QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Oct 13, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) I love the idea of a guy like Franco. I just don't see how the Phillies could discount him that much. It would have to take a Dunning sort of talent at least. Yeah I don't disagree with that. Something like Dunning and Stephens would probably be about as much as I'd give up. And I live in the Philly area so I listen to all the sports talk radio and watch some games. Franco isn't exactly the most popular in the city. Not that that means the phillies front office is listening and would trade him for cheap, but I would imagine they would at least listen. They like Galvis at SS for some reason, they were playing JP Crawford at 3B when he was brought up in September and platooning Franco between 1B and 3B. Ceasar Hernandez is a good player and they also have a 2B prospect with good pop named Kingery in AAA who is ready for a callup. They will have to make a decision on 1 of Franco/Galvis sooner or later basically.

To get this thread back on track...Another team I would look at is the cardinals and their OF situation. They have Dexter Fowler, Stephen Piscotty, Randall Grichuck, Tommy Pham, Jose Martinez, Harrison Bader, and Tyler O'Neil as OF options next year. Not sure what we would have to offer them but wouldn't mind taking a shot on a guy like Piscotty at all if he's available. Pham and Grichuck are also fairly interesting.
-
I'll start it off with my suggestion...Maikel Franco from the Phillies. They need pitching and have some infield depth. Wouldn't mind throwing a couple of our pitching prospects at the Phillies if they want to unload Franco. Wouldn't include any of Gio, Lopez, Kopech, Cease, or Hanson though. Who are some young names you'd like to see us acquire for relatively cheap this off season?
-
Don't remember who they were or how many, but I'd love to hear from the people who were talking s*** on Jose now. Dude is just flat out one of the better pure hitters in baseball. Would it be nice if he was a little bit better at first base? Of course, but his bat FAR out weighs his D. Given his relative cheap contract I'm really curious to see if there's any good offers for him this off season.
-
As with most things, I think the truth with Avi lies somewhere in the middle. I don't think he's as good as he is hitting this year or as bad as previous years. I suspect he'll end up something like .280/.330/.440 with 20 HR's if he manages to play 140+ games next year. With his D in RF being just ok that makes him right about above average? Maybe?

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 10:48 PM) Wade Davis couldn't get guys out. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...&position=P Look at the early career of Davis and then compare it to Fulmer and explain to me how your post makes sense... -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 10:24 PM) I don't get why people are so impatient. He sucks, but it really is not an issue for us to try him as a reliever next year. It's not like we're trying to contend or we have a packed bullpen or anything. The risk is nonexistent. Worst case scenario, he sucks and we lose more games, and get a better pick. If you can't get guys out, you can't get guys out. Doesn't matter what inning you come into the game. Unless there's drastic change in the off season he's getting pretty close to a lost cause. As someone else pointed out, he's had little to no success above A ball and he will be 24 before next season. If he wasn't a top 10 pick he wouldn't crack our top 30 prospect list. -
Seby with 2 more hits as well...next year at age 24 in AA with be his make or break year as a prospect, but obviously looking really really good as a viable catching prospect right now
-
I don't see how pitching out of the pen is going to help Fulmer's problems. It would be one thing if he was having control problems but still missing bats, but that's just not the case. His K/BB ratio is comically bad and wasn't much better when he was 22 in AA last year. Bad control and inability to miss bats just isn't a good combo. Maybe I'm biased because I didn't like the pick form day 1, but I have very little hope for Fulmer ever being a quality pitcher in any role. Hopefully he can prove me wrong though.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 05:41 PM) I have been watching this team for a long time, probably longer than most here, I can't remember them ever being this bad, and I have seen them really bad. I just hope it doesn't spill over and hurt development. You can see being defeated before the game even starts has started to seep in. I just hope the guys the Sox are hoping to eventually keep, can avoid it and get their work in, and get where they need to be. Its convenient that 2, maybe 3, of these guys will be full time players for the Sox by the time we are actually ready to compete. The team was mismanaged for nearly a decade and there was no going back. Just have to accept that the team had to get worse before they get better. It's a part of sports in this day and age.

Yeah I was definitely worried. Being an out of state fan this is the best place to talk sox and get news. Plus I think I'm still perma banned from crappy WSI lol

To start the season, should be drastically different by June. LF- Tilson CF-L Garcia 2B- Moncada 1B- Abreu RF- A Garcia DH- Davidson 3B- Sally C- Navarez SS- Anderson

Knew the reports (and from a bunch of people on here) were BS that Melky was almost worthless we'd have to pay his whole contract. Only paid 1/2 and got a recent 2nd round pick that has had pretty good success so far as a pro. Say what you want about Melky and all the advanced stats, but there just aren't a plethora of guys available who will give their team quality professional AB's pretty much every time. Good trade for both teams, Melky will really help the Royals and I like our return just fine.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 11:05 PM) Kendricks to Nats for their 18th ranked prospect. Phils included cash also I believe I'd be happy with a 21 year old lefty with a 3.01 ERA and 10K/9 for Melky. Kick in all the cash the other team needs too. Melky is going to get that $ from JR when way or another.
