Rosenthal: “rival exec believe white Sox will spend big”
TheFutureIsNear replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Corbin was just an example...what’s your big problem with him? And I just don’t want to see the team sign 1 guy and think problems are solved. I know there’s a lot of young talent coming, but we all know that can go poorly. I just think this franchise is so far away signing 1 great player isn’t going to do anything. If course I n the end it’s not my $ so I won’t be 1 but upset it a Star is brought in. I just would go about trying to get better in a different way. -
Rosenthal: “rival exec believe white Sox will spend big”

If we are going to go out and spend $, then get 2 guys...I don’t really want to watch Machado turn the Sox into an 80 win team with not enough talent around him. Id rather have Corbin and Pollack -
Nope...never mind then. Maybe Tyson Ross depending on what kind of market he has
-
As long as he has clean medicals I say take a chance on Yuseu Kikuchi from Japan. Could be a relatively low investment with high potential. If not him I'd probably just take a chance on a guy like Pomeranz or Garret Richards.

Not saying it’s a good defensive move for them but they commited Hoskins to LF and Santana plated a decent amount of 3B...wouldn’t be difficult to play all 3. Of course just spit balling here, not saying they’d definitely do it or anything. But I think the Phillies definitely make some big splash moves this offseason, they are in “go for it mode” Jose could be 1 of the better hitters they can acquire without giving up a ton. Really the Phillies just interest me as trade partners in general. Franco, Williams, and even Odubel Herrera would all be interesting adds to our lineup

Covey was deemed great after a few starts and Nicky Delmonico was a full time starter going into last off season to a lot of people on this board too...

Not gonna lie, Kopech blowing his elbow was a huge kick to the junk. Took a little bit of wind out of my sail. But there is still light at the end of the tunnel for sure, just looks like it may be a slight detour to get there. Personally I'd like to see the front office get aggressive this off season. I'm not expecting Harper or Machado but I think a couple of smart signings could go a long way with jump starting things. Kinda like the Phillies did with Arrieta and Santana (just an example). A trade for a proven young player would be real nice as well.

You might be right. Not claiming to be an expert or have any inside info. I will say a lot of experts predicted big contracts for guys who sat home for a while last of season as well. The game has seemed to have shifted from overpaying huge contracts. You really think Gonzalez's 2017 gets him that much? Seems like it's pretty obvious that its an outlier year. But if some team overpays, good for him.

Sign Nathan Eovaldi- 3/40 Sign Marwin Gonzalez- 2/14 Sign Kelvin Herrera- 1/7 Sign Justin Wilson- 1/5 Trade 2 prospects outside of our top 10 to Philadelphia for Maikel Franco (something like Stephens and Sheets) C- Narvaez 1B- Abreu 2B- Moncada SS- Anderson 3B- Franco LF- Gonzalez CF- Engel (I guess?) RF- Avi DH- Palka Bench- Yolmer, Davidson, Beef Rondon Giolito Eovaldi Lopez ? Jones Fry Herrera Wilson Hamilton Minaya Covey A rough 25 with a few spots open...I don’t see Machado going to the Sox so my goal would be to add pieces to start to bring the team into contention without overpaying on any long term deals. I was/am all for tanking but I also think it’s important to try and build somewhat of a winning culture and put talent around our young guys at this stage. I think this team could jump into 75 win range in 2019 with a lot of help coming full time from Eloy, Madrigal, Cease, Collins, Dunning, and possibly others in 2020 when we would really be in a position to spend $ and go for a WS.

How much $/years would you offer Eovaldi?
TheFutureIsNear replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
SP under 30 coming off of post season success (so far at least)...someone will overpay, almost guaranteed. Happens every year. Id want him on something like 2 years $25 with a mutual option for a 3rd year at like $18M. Won’t shock me 1 bit if he ends up getting something in the neighborhood of 4/80M tho -
Is there some weird correlation between having ADD and playing 3B? Very confused
-
How would everyone feel about a Jose Valentin comp for Moncada? I can kinda see his career going that way. I don’t see the swing and miss issues disappearing for him, but I think it’s very reasonable to think the power/hr #’s jump up as he gets older. If he stays at 2B and plays the position above average I’d be fine with it, although clearly not what we all hoped for.
-
Would have preferred to take the bullett....I’d much rather be competing with the Royals for #1 overall pick than where we are right now

Kopech has a torn UCL, TJS recommended
TheFutureIsNear replied to soxfan49's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ughh...this is really disheartening. Seems like we can’t get anything positive to happen with young players in this franchise. I guess technicaly it really doesn’t change a ton in terms of overall team timeline, but still just sucks. I know the surgery has advanced a ton, but still no guarantees -
Davidson, Palka, Engel, Delmonico Please get all of these guys out of your head as regulars down the line. They are all indeed fringe MLB talent. They have had more than enough professional AB’s for anyone to realize they shouldn’t be starting players if the White Sox plan to compete for a World Series in the next 5 years. Do they each have 1 skill set that can likely keep them in the majors as bench pieces? Sure, but I really hope all fans have their sights set on acquiring much more talent in the next few years. Between the prospects already acquired and the cap space that will be available there’s just no excuse to have these types of guys in the starting lineup much longer

8/21 - Sox vs Twins, 7:10, WGN (Kopech Debut)

Take the makeup call...that was high -
Crazy that it will be 2019 and we’ll still have no idea what we have in Avi.

1 inning for Cease and 3 for Hansen. Very disappointing night

Is Collins officially a lost cause at C that I’m not aware of? I thought most reports were saying he’s been at least adequate and improving this year?

White Sox Vs Cleveland 8.12 game thread
TheFutureIsNear replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2018 Season in Review
Really don’t think Covey has a chance in hell to be a big league starter to be frank. Between command and secondary pitches he has too far to go imo. Put him in the pen and let him throw that 2 seamer as hard as he can and see if he has any success. If not oh well, most rule 5 picks don’t work out. -
Another guy I’m just not going to get my hopes up on...if he can become a regular great, but I’m not expecting much more than pinch hitter/AAAA player
-
The issue with giving Fulmer more time is that he hasn't had any kind of prolonged success at any point in his career so far. We're talking about 370 innings across pretty much every level without being able to consistently get batters out. That's kind of a problem. Moving him into the bullpen is a necessary panic move to jump start his career.
-
Wasn't he pretty good prospect for the Rangers at 1 point? Figured he'd be a decent Coop'll fix em candidate. But if you've seen him and the stuff isn't there I'll take your word for it. How about Ben Lively? Potential for a back end of the rotation arm next year?
