  1. I guess I don’t view Santana as much of a negative as you...I’m viewing him as the 3 WAR player he was for the Indiana in his extended time in our division. Of course his contract isn’t appealing, but I also don’t think it’s THAT bad. If we are apparently interested in Nelson Cruz, Santana isn’t crazy at all. And I would trade Stephens and Bernardo for Williams I’m a heart beat. But again, maybe I’m too high on him. I think he could be a 25-30 HR regular hitting like .260/.330/.460 with above average D in a corner spot. I view Stephens and Bernardo as average middle relievers in 5 years....
  2. Something like Carlos Santana and Nick Williams for Nate Jones, Jordan Stephens and Bernardo Flores. Phillies take on a few mil of Santana's 2020 season as well...
  3. I think the alternate plan is don’t do anything, or at least nothing significant. Maybe there’s some miracle trade out there we could pull off, but the last thing I want to see this team do is sign a bunch of middle of the road aging vets to try and chase a wild card spot. We’re this far into the rebuild already, might as well keep doing it the right way.
  4. To each their own, but I disagree. Sports are indeed entertainment and I’ll watch regardless, but when it comes to my favorite teams if they aren’t winning I’m not happy....for a few hrs. I don’t let it consume my life or anything but I’ll never be content to just sit back and watch and not be invested in the outcome.
  5. Phillies are the team I would target a trade with...Odubel Herrera, Maikel Franco, and Nick Williams all interest in me. Depending on who they sign taking on Carlos Santana’s contract could help in negotiations. Jake Lamb, and to a lesser degree Socrates Brito, from the Dbacks are interesting. Also don’t hate the idea of Wil Myers depending on price. In any and all negotiations Eloy, Kopech, Cease and Robert aren’t on the table. Really don’t want to give up Dunning, Collins, Hansen or Rutherford either but they can be had depending on who’s coming back
  6. My fear is they don’t get Harper/Machado and end up with something like Brantley, Happ, and someone else all on multi year deals. Essentially tying up too much payroll in veterans for the next 2-3 years that still won’t make us playoff contenders. If he lands 1 of Harper/Machado then sure, go for it. But I don’t want to see us tie up payroll and go back to that middling 80-85 win team while we are still trying to develop prospects.
  7. Posting on my phone and accidentally hit enter in the middle of editing
  8. Am I the only 1 that feels uneasy about this? It seems like Hahn almost has a blank check that will greatly impact the future of this team. Obviously we have no control, but should we ok with that? Not only do I not trust his decision making on acquiring veteran talent, but is it not a conflict of interest for a GM who’s job is semi on the line to sign free agents while we are still in a rebuild? Curious about opinions on this as every one seems pretty all in.
  9. Ask yourself this question...when has 1 of the best players in the league signed with 1 of the worst teams...In any sport? The only little brother attitude is that the Sox do indeed suck and are not going to attract top tier free agents yet, maybe in 2 years. You’re saying Harper/Machado will take the most $ like there won’t be 4/5 other teams making the same kinds of offers.
  10. That’s pretty much my point. I think we are going to have to overpay by a lot to get these guys to even look in the Sox direction. Not to mention I could argue how “generational” these 2 are, but that’s not worth getting into (yes, I know both are extremely good players). We’ll see I guess, but I think fans are getting way ahead of themselves. I see a lot of disappointment coming this off season in terms of Sox moves. Just not enough light at the end of this rebuild yet to talk bringing in super stars. There will be enough other teams interested in Harper/Machado. Hopefully I’m wrong and we end up with 1. I sure could use a signing to justify my mlb.tv purchase the last few years
  11. 2 out of the past 3 years Harper has hit sub .250 with a sub 4 WAR. He’s a safe bet to give $300+M to?(or whatever the $ will be). Machado casually said to the media that he doesn’t believe in hustling or playing hard. That’s the guy you give $300+M to be the face of your franchise and lead your young guys? All I’m saying is every FA has warts, don’t see how without access to medicals, interviews, etc., you can determine who the best signings are/aren’t. We’ve all seen “safe” deals blow up
  12. Corbin was just an example...what’s your big problem with him? And I just don’t want to see the team sign 1 guy and think problems are solved. I know there’s a lot of young talent coming, but we all know that can go poorly. I just think this franchise is so far away signing 1 great player isn’t going to do anything. If course I n the end it’s not my $ so I won’t be 1 but upset it a Star is brought in. I just would go about trying to get better in a different way.
  13. If we are going to go out and spend $, then get 2 guys...I don’t really want to watch Machado turn the Sox into an 80 win team with not enough talent around him. Id rather have Corbin and Pollack
  14. The Fulmer pick was indeed bad, I hated it from the beginning It's pretty ignorant to only mention Collins' BA and not his .380 OBP.... Burdi and Burger are just bad luck...what can you do about injuries? Madrigal? I didn't love the pick, but I don't see him busting either.
  15. Nope...never mind then. Maybe Tyson Ross depending on what kind of market he has
  16. As long as he has clean medicals I say take a chance on Yuseu Kikuchi from Japan. Could be a relatively low investment with high potential. If not him I'd probably just take a chance on a guy like Pomeranz or Garret Richards.
  17. Not saying it’s a good defensive move for them but they commited Hoskins to LF and Santana plated a decent amount of 3B...wouldn’t be difficult to play all 3. Of course just spit balling here, not saying they’d definitely do it or anything. But I think the Phillies definitely make some big splash moves this offseason, they are in “go for it mode” Jose could be 1 of the better hitters they can acquire without giving up a ton. Really the Phillies just interest me as trade partners in general. Franco, Williams, and even Odubel Herrera would all be interesting adds to our lineup
  18. Covey was deemed great after a few starts and Nicky Delmonico was a full time starter going into last off season to a lot of people on this board too...
  19. I'll redo mine... Sign: Yusei Kikuchi- 4 years 40 Mil Mike Moustakas- 2 years 18 Mil Cody Allen- 2 years 20 Mil Justin Wilson- 2 years 12 Mil Trade: Jose Abreu to the Philles for Maikel Franco and Nick Williams C- Narvaez/Beef (2) 1B- Franco (3) 2B- Moncada (4) SS- Anderson (5) 3B- Moustakas (6) LF- Williams (7) CF- Engel/Garcia (8) RF- Avi (9) DH- Palka/Davidson (11) Bench- Yolmer and Delmonico (13) SP- Rondon (14) SP- Lopez (15) SP- Giolito (16) SP- Kikuchi (17) SP- Covey (18) Long Relief- 1. Fulmer (19) Middlle- 1. Hamilton (20) 2. Minaya (21) 3. WIlson (22) Setup- 1. Jones (23) 2. Fry (24) Closer- Cody Allen (25)
  20. Not gonna lie, Kopech blowing his elbow was a huge kick to the junk. Took a little bit of wind out of my sail. But there is still light at the end of the tunnel for sure, just looks like it may be a slight detour to get there. Personally I'd like to see the front office get aggressive this off season. I'm not expecting Harper or Machado but I think a couple of smart signings could go a long way with jump starting things. Kinda like the Phillies did with Arrieta and Santana (just an example). A trade for a proven young player would be real nice as well.
  21. You might be right. Not claiming to be an expert or have any inside info. I will say a lot of experts predicted big contracts for guys who sat home for a while last of season as well. The game has seemed to have shifted from overpaying huge contracts. You really think Gonzalez's 2017 gets him that much? Seems like it's pretty obvious that its an outlier year. But if some team overpays, good for him.
  22. Sign Nathan Eovaldi- 3/40 Sign Marwin Gonzalez- 2/14 Sign Kelvin Herrera- 1/7 Sign Justin Wilson- 1/5 Trade 2 prospects outside of our top 10 to Philadelphia for Maikel Franco (something like Stephens and Sheets) C- Narvaez 1B- Abreu 2B- Moncada SS- Anderson 3B- Franco LF- Gonzalez CF- Engel (I guess?) RF- Avi DH- Palka Bench- Yolmer, Davidson, Beef Rondon Giolito Eovaldi Lopez ? Jones Fry Herrera Wilson Hamilton Minaya Covey A rough 25 with a few spots open...I don’t see Machado going to the Sox so my goal would be to add pieces to start to bring the team into contention without overpaying on any long term deals. I was/am all for tanking but I also think it’s important to try and build somewhat of a winning culture and put talent around our young guys at this stage. I think this team could jump into 75 win range in 2019 with a lot of help coming full time from Eloy, Madrigal, Cease, Collins, Dunning, and possibly others in 2020 when we would really be in a position to spend $ and go for a WS.
  23. SP under 30 coming off of post season success (so far at least)...someone will overpay, almost guaranteed. Happens every year. Id want him on something like 2 years $25 with a mutual option for a 3rd year at like $18M. Won’t shock me 1 bit if he ends up getting something in the neighborhood of 4/80M tho
  24. Is there some weird correlation between having ADD and playing 3B? Very confused
  25. How would everyone feel about a Jose Valentin comp for Moncada? I can kinda see his career going that way. I don’t see the swing and miss issues disappearing for him, but I think it’s very reasonable to think the power/hr #’s jump up as he gets older. If he stays at 2B and plays the position above average I’d be fine with it, although clearly not what we all hoped for.
