Kind of odd to me that people are so sentimental about Jose. He’s not Frank, PK, Buehrle, etc. He’s been here 6 years and has never played in a playoff game. Plus only 4 years were really good. We’re now going on a sample size of just shy of 1000 AB’s of a guy that is best suited at DH and can’t keep his OPS above .800. Jose is a great story of what he overcame and he seems like 1 hell of a good guy, but sorry....he’s just not a very useful major league baseball player anymore. We should be looking to move on.

2019 Trade Deadline Predictions
TheFutureIsNear replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Phillies are a very interesting trade partner as I don’t think they are looking to make a huge deal but could use depth where we can provide decent vets. A weird package like Nova, Luery, and Marshall could interest them. Would probably have to be a package from their 40 man roster, but I wouldn’t hate taking a gamble on giving a pair of 26 year olds with decent upside a change of scenery in Franco and Pivetta -
Would be a pretty good replacement for Luery if we are able to get anything for him

Gerrit Cole - The Rebuild’s Fulcrum

I’ll give us a solid 2.5% chance of signing Cole. Not going to happen, just prepare yourselves now. -
My opinion: Sox need to make another megadeal
TheFutureIsNear replied to The Ultimate Champion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would go opposite direction of OP and would be trying to acquire an established young SP and/or OF’er with “excess” (for lack of a better term) prospects. Keep: Robert, Madrigal, Cease, Kopech, Vaughn, and Collins to contribute next year. + the obvious of Gio, Yoan and TA Would we have enough to acquire a significant contributor after those guys? Kinda doubt it, but I hope Hahn is at least exploring options. A lot like the Rays getting Tommy Pham last year despite that they cleary weren’t going to make the playoffs. -
I think his trade value is fairly close to nothing unless the Sox pay pretty much all of his remaining salary (which won’t happen) Love the guy, but Jose was a dinosaur in today’s game before his bat started to regress. Now he’s a DH who struggles to keep his OPS above .800. I really think he would struggle to find a full time job and multi year deal on the open market.

I know $ talks...but people assume that all free agents want to come to the Sox. Are we definitely sure of this? Wouldn’t shock me if some of the actual “big fish” don’t consider the Sox as a viable option. Won’t surprise me if the Sox have to overpay by a good margin if we want a top of the line starter in free agency

Castillo Jay Rondon Sanchez Engel Garcia Its nearly impossible to score runs with that 5-1. Really really bad talent acquisition my this front office. I was all in favor of a rebuild but this lineup is just pathetic and there’s no reason for it but ineptitude by the front office. Sorry for the rant in a game thread but it’s definitely frustrating watching this lineup

Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans
TheFutureIsNear replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The only problem I see with his house building analogy when it comes to the Sox is that in our scenario is like having faith in a builder that accidentally knocked our house down while doing simple repairs. I was/still am all in favor of a rebuild. It was the right thing to do. I just don’t have any faith in our front office to do the job correctly. And I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be pessimistic about the situation. Obviously it’s 100% out of my control and I just have to accept it, but I find it pretty damn hard to be positive -
Abreu, McCann, Herrera, and Colome likely won’t be performing at their current level in 2 years (except Herrera)...I don’t think you count any of them into the big picture of a winning Sox team in 2021. But yeah, if they really want to could they probably piece together a team to compete for a 2nd wild card spot next year? Sure, but do you really want to see this front office try to piece together a semi-competitive team with free agent parts? It will likely do more harm than good. Not to mention the idea of acquiring 6 key roster pieces in 1 off season isn’t difficult is pretty ridiculous. I mean...have you not seen this front office’s track record? Long term the outlook still looks pretty bleak in my opinion. We need Robert, Eloy, Kopech, Cease, and Vaughn to all hit their all-star potential (or at least close) very soon.

The market is going to be damn near non existent for a 33 year old poor fielding 1B that’s clearly in decline...whatever he gets from us to return is likely going to be an overpay if anything.

Kings ransom for all of our relievers combined is laughable....For only 1 we should be happy with any decent prospect we can get.

Shake-up Needed in Coaching Staff, ASAP
TheFutureIsNear replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It needs to start with the front office. As long as Hahn and KW are in charge it won’t matter. There isn’t enough talent on the roster and I don’t see that changing with who we have making decisions. Nor do I trust their ability to pick the right coach. Letting the same 2 people that put the team into a whole try to dig out of it was/is the dumbest thing possible. Really can’t think of many other instances where a front office was given this long of a leash...and ours has hung themselves with that leash multiple times over by now. -
2019 Trade Deadline Predictions
TheFutureIsNear replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Cardinals are said to be willing to trade a young OF’er...I wouldn’t hate taking a gamble on Harrison Bader as long as the price isn’t high. Dustin Fowler is still wasting away hitting well in AAA for the A’s Although he doesn’t fit best position wise...Travis Shaw seems like he could/should be on a roster somewhere Derek Fisher needs a shot that he will likely never get with the stros. I’d check in on Willie Calhoun’s availability with the rangers Same with Ryan McMahon from the Rockies Just a few names I’d check in on to see the availability. I’m all for fishing for reclamation projects/giving guys their 1st real opportunity. At this point we really don’t have a whole lot of ?’s on the 40 man roster that we haven’t already figured out aren’t starting quality players...or anywhere close -
2019 Trade Deadline Predictions
TheFutureIsNear replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It’s too late because he’s 35 and we aren’t close to be a championship contending team. Innings eater probably isn’t the correct term, but I just don’t see the point in acquiring an old, expensive starter on a mediocre team. It’s not going to change anything. I wouldn’t be upset if we do, because it’s not my $, but it wouldn’t be a smart team building move in my opinion. Especially with a cheap owner that is already hesitant to pay free agents. -
2019 Trade Deadline Predictions
TheFutureIsNear replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not arguing that it def would be a White Sox/KW move to get a guy like Greinkie when it’s slightly too late Im just looking at it from the perspective that I don’t think the team will be close to competing for a championship run next season. So you’d be counting on a 37 year old Greinkie to be a major part of a playoff run in 2021. Not crazy given how he pitches, just not something I’d count on. I do agree that adding a reliable vet arm is a good idea, but 2.5 years at 60+ mil for a guy to be a very good inning eater/hopefully mentor? I just don’t see that as the best option. But also not my $... -
I think he can project to a Trevor Bauer esque pitcher...good overall that can show extended flashes of brilliance, but will also be frustrating at times. And I’d be perfectly ok with that projection if it were true

2019 Trade Deadline Predictions
TheFutureIsNear replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’d be ok with the 1st 2 moves...but no way on greinkie unless you put the words “a lot” in front of cash. That’s a move to make if you’re a team thinking you’re 1 or 2 moves away from competing for a championship. That’s not the White Sox -
Sell the older guys that won’t be on the team in 2/3 years...BUT also see if we can buy a younger guy or 2 with multiple years of control. Obviously this isn’t going to be a very good established player, but I think we should be fishing for reclamation projects for sure. We need more SP’s and probably more OF’ers as well. I don’t think we have enough healthy talent in the organization at either spot to feel comfortable...especially SP’s. Not sure why our front office loves to trout out the same junk we all know isn’t good emough
-
Palka isn’t a major league player...anybody who says so are probably the same people that were penciling in Delmonico as a long term piece after 2017
-
I don’t doubt pretty much any team would like to have Luery on their roster...just not sure how many teams in contention he would start for. Is a team going to trade anything significant for a utility guy? Kinda doubt it. He’s probably more valuable to the Sox than what we’d get in return

RF options are bleak...any other ideas?
TheFutureIsNear replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Thought we missed out on at least a couple of moves we could/should have made for youngish talent. Domingo Santana is the 1 that jumped out at me at a painfully obvious move we should have made
