  1. The daily double of Pillar and DeJong is the stuff of legends.
  2. I will say that overslotting in this year’s draft, picking at 5, seems like a huge mistake.
  3. I am fine with Lopez, wait and see on DeJong.

That is a promising development. I have been hard on the kid, but he controls the zone, so if he has made swing adjustments, maybe he can live up to his SEC pedigree.
  5. Honeycutt coming on would be huge for this draft whether the Sox draft him or not. So few guys profile as up the middle plus athletes that he could zoom to 1-1. I am still wary of his hit tool, but it is nice to see him off to a good start.

I think Rosario would have been a bad fit with the Sox defense-first push. His D has fallen off a cliff. But the Rays are smart about how they use guys. I bet he ends up having a solid season playing all over the field, and they put him in situations where he succeeds. DeJong’s D is still solid, but his offense is so bad, his range of outcomes is like 2 WAR guy whose value is mostly glove to released by the middle of June. Should be interesting.
  7. I would prefer to avoid 1b profile, but in this draft there are a lot of 1b/2b types.
  8. I disagree. I think Soroka, Fedde, and Kopech all have upside. If any of them pitch well, especially Soroka, they will be put on the trading block.

With all the roster churn, the guy I am shocked by is Matt Foster.

I think the cultural reset starts with Montgomery and, assuming he gets better hitting rhp, Ramos, and Quero. But it's important to scrape away the wreckage. It seems like Robert is the only one from the previous rebuild who's going to be here in 2025, so all these veterans are a transition phase.

Notice how he doesn’t mention “Have any offense whatsoever”?
  12. I think he is in play. Sirota is probably in the 5-10 range, and I gotta believe the top of this draft is going to feature a lot of deals. IMHO the picks in this area are not worth slot. I could imagine the Sox popping a relatively safe pick in Sirota to afford HS picks down the line.
  13. Their 40 man decisions are going to be interesting. They’ve got like 20 guys in camp who will not be in baseball in 2 years. If your 40 man includes Pillar, Chavez, Shaw to along with Stassi and Maldonado, they’ll have the oldest roster in the division and they’ll have to cut a bunch of guys to get to 40, let alone 165. Maybe it will get them closer to 75 wins? But if these guys prove to be washed up, their overall talent level will really crater because they had to release some of their potential replacements.
  14. Thanks. I respect that POV, but I think in a mediocre system where they probably shanked their top pick a year ago, I would rather have a high ceiling position player like Konnor Griffin than Brecht. Guys with control this bad rarely seem to fix it, but we shall see.
  15. Elias is not a good trade partner for us. I never believed the O’s would give up meaningful prospects. Houston never did. They got Cole and Verlander for volume not quality. Much more likely the Sox trade them Soroka at the deadline than Cease.
  16. With 1-5? Too rich for me. I am postion player only at 1-5 then get pitching with at least 2 of their 3 other high picks. But even if I wanted pitching there, Brecht's risk profile is way too high for me their. Forget reliever risk, with that may walks, there's actual bust risk.
  17. Yeah, it was rough. I watched several of his starts. At times the stuff would be there and he'd throw strikes. Then his ability to repeat his delivery would disappear, then he'd make an adjustment to throw strikes, but he'd be grooving it. Long way of saying he was a mess, but there were flashes. What did Poles say? "Scout the flashes."
  18. Not sure Rick Hahn deserves to be Curly. I think Grifol was hired by Shemp.
  19. I actually think Holliday will be their 2b by Memorial Day, but I guess Wesburg can play 3b. Henderson being able to play ss makes them a better team long-term. He'd be GG at 3b, but I bet he pushes Holliday, not the other way around.
  20. Year zero of a rebuild and half the team is 35 year olds. I do not understand their plan.
  21. Huh, so is everything after the draft sort of extended instructs?
  22. One year of Pedro is not my definition of luck.
  23. I predict a breakout in that Santos will do what he did last year for a team that the national media knows exists.
  24. I know he's a pain in the butt, however Ozzie >>>>>>>> Pedro.
  25. I would love to see someone start ranking on process rather than actual prospects. I like the Sox top 5 in some order -- Montgomery, Schultz, Quero, Ramos, Nastrini -- but the ceiling and probability both drop off a cliff after that. I'd start to feel more comfortable if Mike Shirley is given a free hand to grab high-ceiling high school guys in the early rounds (I'm hopeful) and the Sox change their LatAm strategy to start pulling in the younger, higher-priced teens. Right now, the improvements in their system seem like a mirage based on one great late first-rounder and trades. I'd just like to see the Sox develop an actual pipeline where every year they're adding multiple future major leaguers instead of 2nd rounders who end up as org players and international signing like Yolbert Sanchez.
