Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
shysocks replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:49 AM) Im gonna disagree with that, September hot bats have stuck the Sox with some s***ty players the following season. Josh Fields and Jerry Owens i am looking at you Forgot Brent Morel. I do not think Trayce will be a star, but I do think he'll hit his weight, and coupled with his glove, that's enough for a decent MLB career. -

QUOTE (aboz56 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:40 AM) Why is everyone sweating Thompson? He played well late last season in meaningless games. Sox sold high. True, they sold high, and that's why I'm not complaining more. But a guy coming up and immediately succeeding isn't something we see very much on the hitting side. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:41 AM) why do you always have to bring up the Royals Because Dayton Moore Paulo Orlando Salvy . But seriously, I would prefer Gordon.

Where's the Alex Gordon option?

Sigh. Montas and Trayce are painful to lose. Have to get an outfielder now. Have to have to HAVE TO. -

Hahaha well this is gonna send my productivity to s*** today. -
I think - not sure, but I think - I had a major major detail spoiled on an unrelated subreddit yesterday, completely out of nowhere. So I'm also done with the internet for a bit.

Absolutely should have gone with something X-mas related.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) I'd be as well served by a replacement level player than Jay Bruce. We are so bad that of course he could pass as our DH, but that would have to be a pure scrap heap zero-given-up acquisition. That's likely all it would end up being. Bruce's 2015 isn't all that different from what we can reasonably expect from LaRoche next year. I'd rather have Bruce because of his age and option year, but we can't have both, and since clearing LaRoche means sending money with him...

Daniel Hudson is worth mentioning. Wonder if he might have stayed healthy here.

Frazier's Law: As a Soxtalk conversation grows longer, the probability of penis comparisons approaches 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_Law

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) Actually I didn't. I said they both strike out a lot. The difference, of course, is that you guys want to ravage the farm system and throw the same horrid outfield defense out there. Frazier's best OBP was .336. Last year it was .309, to accompany his .669 second half OPS. And yet you guys want to trade serious assets for that. How many times do we have to load up with low OBP ballplayers? Sure Chris Carter is high K low OBP. His 25 homers are also FREE. They won't hurt the club long term. Adding Frazier would maul it. Who's the last hitter that improved with the Sox. I'll tell - Eaton and Quentin. Common denominator? YOUNG and we traded equal value for YOUNG players. That's actually worked. So what do the Sox do when an approach works? Dump it in the trashcan and go after "proven veterans" again, an approach that has consistently failed. What exactly would Frazier add? A good bat? Maybe. Could be a mediocre bat if we follow what has happened in the past with these NL sluggers. Defense? Nope. We fixed that with Lawrie. Yes, he's average at best but it's stable. (and yes, some want to move him to 2nd to squeeze out the promising Sanchez at 2nd for a proven mediocre player). Does OF defense improve? Nope. Package will likely include Trayce and we're back to the same clowning we had last year. Heck if we do nothing, we're much better defensively than we were last year and if we use the players correctly, we'd have a plus defensive team. That was a big weakness last year. But you can't watch defense on home run derby. I'm on record as not wanting to go after Frazier, but the bolded is simply not true. Frazier K'd less than the league average last year, while Carter would have had the highest K rate in MLB if he had qualified. It is not an appropriate equivalency to draw between them. It'd be like saying "Nelson Cruz hit a lot of homers last year, but so did Eric Hosmer."

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:12 AM) League average K% is about 20%, and Frazier for his career is 21%, he's not a high K guy. THANK YOU. I keep seeing that Frazier strikes out a lot. It's basically making s*** up.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 08:00 AM) If low risk, high reward signings existed, GMs would be jumping at the opportunity to sign Hector Sanchez, or whomever else is classified as low risk, high reward. Exactly. If something looks low risk/high reward, then you're misinterpreting either the level of risk or reward. The relationship between risk and reward makes low risk/high reward impossible. Period. Now if somebody possesses information that others lack, it's a different story. If Hahn knew that Hector Sanchez was an alien who stole Buster Posey's talent but the rest of the market didn't, this signing would be low risk/high reward.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 01:56 AM) If you want to avoid spoilers get off the internet now. People (non press) are starting to spill the beans as they leave the after party (which everyone who waited in line was invited to) even though the embargo is lifted on Wednesday at 12:01am Gonna have to quit Twitter cold turkey until I see the movie.

If Rose got to replay his career 100 times from the draft onward, how many of them would be worse than the version we've gotten? 10? 5? It sucks.

Back off the ledge, folks. The Sox aren't moving. Somebody said that the other teams sharing cities with a big brother at least compete, unlike the Sox. Uh, the Mets had 6 straight losing seasons before they won a pennant. The future will continue to look dire for the Sox... until it doesn't.

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) Staying off Twitter for a little while I must have a well-curated timeline, because it doesn't even have wind of this news.

Mystery Team. Just a guess, I have no info.

The forum on whitesox.com had been floundering for some time, and an update about 18 months ago that restructured the layout for the worse was the nail in the coffin. Another user there who didn't like the changes clued me into Soxtalk and I barely looked back. This place is awesome; thanks all!

Who are the worst players in White Sox history?

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 09:51 AM) I tend to cut Billy Koch some slack due to the Morgellons Disease. That's fine, but this isn't the "most hated" thread that sprang up a while ago, so guys who didn't perform all belong. Koch was a primary reason the '03 team missed the playoffs. -
I keep reading this thread title and thinking it's referring to Jason Heyward's tendency to talk. ie Jason Heyward talks. Jason Heyward eats. Jason Heyward plays professional baseball.
