  1. Dunn looking for the 4th out with the "Whatever swipe tag" attempt on Rolen haha
  2. Joe McEwing is a rough 39 years old. Just saw the video of him talking about chemistry on whitesox.com and I would have easily guessed late 40's maybe even early 50's...
  3. So that article pretty much confirms the suspicion that the "interview" process to find a new White Sox manager was a complete joke and that Robin had to be convinced to take the job. Fantastic. Mike Matheny and his lack of managerial experience was also hired and by the defending champions, I know, I know, but I'm pretty he interviewed for the position along with other candidates and was then chosen. That's all I wanted to be content with the Sox hiring. Due Diligence. The fact that they never even talked to anyone else will forever be a mystery. Why exactly was Robin the only choice? I can understand if the Sox (or any team for that matter) were like (and this is a fantasy scenario) "We only want Joe Maddon. We're offering him the job. We're not even gonna talk to anyone else" That makes sense. But to look to no one else and hire the guy with no experience and seemingly no desire to manage? Well, that's a head scratcher for the ages....
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 06:23 PM) Rebuild usually means 2-3 years. White Sox fans historically haven't had that much patience. That statement makes me laugh. Do you realize how f***ing bad the White Sox have been historically? 111 season, only NINE total playoff appearances. 1/3 of those coming in the last decade or so (00, 05, 08) with gaps of 40 and 24 years between playoffs. If these fans suddenly can't take some time before being competitive again, f*** 'em. We don't need them around. This team has been better than it's ever been since 2000.... I'd GLADLY take multiple 90+ loss seasons, if it meant re-stocking the farm with talent and spending free agent money wisely to get back into contention in 3-4 years. I just don't trust KW in doing any of the rebuilding, mainly because he doesn't seem to think that's an option. And if he's forced into it by this team sucking, well, I don't wanna see what he'd do being backed into a corner.
  5. Looks like we got another raffle winner doing play by play. Christ. Hahahahanahahanaha "Costco Fukudome" that is the best EVER.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 11:22 AM) The goal of this season is development. If you think otherwise, you're pretending, and that includes if you are in the group trying to fire Williams. Edit: Holy Hell, 80k. Well there's the funny thing. No way KW would ever say (at least in public, maybe he might believe it in his mind) that the season is about developing. He's gonna say and possibly even think they have a chance to compete. So when the failure comes, he's going to look bad/delusional. The public perception (outside of us the SMARTEST BASEBALL FANS EVER) will be more failure on Kenny's part.
  7. Whatever the number is, I just don't trust Kenny to spend it wisely If this season goes in the tank (and who are we kidding it's gonna) it should REALLY go in the tank. Where changes are made at the top
  8. In love with the new Dr. Dog. Digging the new Punch Brothers and Andrew Bird albums (first time I've ever listened to either)
  9. The fact that Brian Bruney is STILL in the organization makes me sad. Makes me even more sad that he was a 0 ERA this spring to trick the coaches into considering him for the Bullpen even though he's proven he's not a big league pitcher...
  10. My memory might be hazy, but doesn't Danks suck vs his former team. Especially IN Texas? I seem to remember him getting shelled in Arlington a few seasons ago...
  11. Texas is gonna run through this team like a buzzsaw opening series...
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 14, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) How cute. Prince and Cabrera already have their ghey after homer handshake down. They spend a day of ST on that? Prince looks fatter than last year to me. I'm sure it's a woe is me attitude adopted by most all fans of teams struggling (Lord knows I have) but you just KNOW that Fielder is gonna have a freakin MVP season. Not struggling with weight, league switching issues like the Sox big free agent last season. But put Fielder on the Sox now, and Dunn last year to the Tigers Dunn mashes and Prince on the south side is a major bust. It may not really be that way, but it feels that way...
  13. I'm torn because I think this team should be (should have been?) torn up and they will not be in contention this season, but I don't want Kenny in charge of a fire sale. Of course the old AL Central Illusion of Contention™ might rear it's ugly head where the Sox are many games below .500, yet still only a handful of games out of 1st so Kenny will still think they have a shot....
  14. This team is flat. Something needs to be done now. The regular line up needs to be out there more and for longer. Don't give me this "it's early in spring training. Give them another week" crap. I heard the same stuff the last few seasons and those worked out splendidly.
  15. If the Sox don't give Dayan 500 AB's this season, whether he struggles or not They're more clueless than I feared. No matter what management says in the media, This season is ONLY about developing the younger players to see what they have moving forward... Hiding young players who struggle on the bench and treating them with kid gloves is just dumb. If they're on the major league team, PLAY THEM.
  16. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 01:32 PM) https://twitter.com/#!/DKnobler/status/...664596737593345 That's nice............... "White Sox look so bad this spring that 1 scout said, "They may lose 100 this year." Just remember, AZ and CLE were worst tms in AZ last spg." Hey, someone with a worse outlook than my 95 loss prediction! Completely theoretical: If the Sox lost 100 games this season (which would be the first time since 1970 and only the 4th time ever) would they consider firing Robin? Or does that loyalty stand strong?
  17. These appreciate the game commercials are brutal...
  18. If they move from Oakland and drop it from their name, it's the easiest nickname ever: The San Jose's
  19. Rios hitting a robust .154 now...
  20. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 11, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) Why so cynical? First, its spring training. Second, today completes only the first week of ST games. If you want to make assessments on organizational depth, the World Champion Detroit Tigers, and Robin Ventura based on the first seven days of spring games, have at it. But it seems a bit premature to me. I'm not crowning Detroit as World Champs. AL Central Champs for sure but I think one of Texas, NY, LA, or Boston will knock them out. The pitching after Verlander is suspect and even he wasn't the lights out CY/MVP he was during the regular season last postseason. I wanna add one more major issue from the Ozzie era I'm gonna be judging Robin on: Getting shut down by the following THREE types of pitchers on a regular basis*: - soft tossing lefty with a good change-up - rookie/first time pitcher facing the Sox - pitcher who has been getting killed by the rest of the league, baffles the Sox hitters (* = a pitcher can be any combination of these three types and possible all three in one. ) Now I understand a lot of these issues are on the players, but it's really up to Robin and his coaching staff to change the culture of the locker room and to say the right things to get these players to all stop falling into these annoying habits that frustrate us and cause them to lose baseball games they should win. Obviously you can't win them all but we the fans and I'm sure some if not all of the players know there have been far too many games lost in the last few seasons that they had no business losing.
  21. The only thing missing are spring results. Which probably has more to say about the lack of depth in the system than anything. I've said this before, but while I never really put much stock into ST wins and losses I honestly think some of the head cases on the team do carry it into the season. And as unfortunate as it is you better believe Detroit is gonna take their hot spring right on in to April so if the Sox do the same with their record it's gonna be a brutal month.
