I've never been more satisfied with a series finale than the LOST finale. People that hated it, went it fingers on the keyboard ready to write a Novel about how bad it was. I just sat back and enjoyed the living s*** out of the last episode of one of my favorite TV shows of all time and absolutely loved it. There was nothing that wasn't resolved that I absolutely needed resolved to be happy with the show. Sometimes a little ambiguity is a good thing in art. I don't need every little thing spelled out for me to dig something. If you have a spare 2 hours and 40+ minutes to kill, watch Damon Lindelof interviewed on The Kevin Pollack Chat Show. Gave me a whole new appreciation for the show and respect for show runners everywhere.

February is gonna be a great month. New albums from Dr. Dog, Sleigh Bells, fun. all drop next month...

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 12:38 PM) Wow. What a s***ty division. And of course he'll wind up mashing against the Sox, but suck against everyone else...

60 Homers shy of breaking Frank's All-Time record. I think he could do that in 2 years and call it a career and retire as a White Sox player....
-
That is pretty awesome...

Great deal for Detroit int he short term. Probably might even win them a title. Although I freaked out with the Miggy trade and what did Detroit get out of that? One playoff run that ended in elimination... In 4-5 years they'll be regretting it BIG TIME.

I always forget that Devon White is in the organization....

The Spring Training stuff is spot on. For as much as I think 2012 will suck, there is always a part of me that's like Mulder. I want to believe, because I love baseball so much and the White Sox. So it's a good thing that any expectations I have will be either dashed or surprised by the first month of the season. If the Sox have a great April and are actually beating the Central opponents I might get excited. If it's the same old same old in April. I'll know to temper any excitement and just look at individual progress on the young guys. Also, for as much as I've ripped the Robin hiring (and still don't like it all that much, but my hatred of it has declined) I think his possible effect on Morel could be one of the best things about 2012. I just think with his knowledge of the position and struggles early in his career as well, if he can say the right things and strike a chord with Brent he could have one of the better seasons of any of the Sox young players.

It's very telling that he listed Ozzie being funny first, before claiming he was a good manager in his list of reason why he loves Ozzie...

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 01:44 PM) I can't argue with that and it's why I ditched Netflix streaming and just have the disc subscriptions. That brings me to something I want to ask people here. Who has a Roku and what do you think of it? I'm thinking about getting one, piling up a few subscriptions (sports packages, Netflix) and ditching cable. Would I be crazy to do so? Me and my girlfriend just cut the cord last week. We have an Apple TV (to rent movies or TV shows. Also offers the MLB Package and you can stream Netflix), and HD Antenna (we can watch anything on the networks in HD live) and a Wi-Fi enabled Blu-Ray player. (Which has access to Hulu Plus which covers almost every TV show we watch. If we miss something and it's not on Hulu we can rent it from Apple TV) DirecTV, while awesome, was about $90 a month. Netflix and Hulu Plus $15.98 a month.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 07:09 AM) Did KW run over Passan and Keith Law's dogs one evening. Hey I'm just as confused as he is. I don't know what the White Sox are either.

Apologies if this has ever already been discussed...too many pages to look through haha This has been bugging me for a while after reading various tech blogs... When it comes to TV/Movies Physical Media is still the best option. I love me some Netflix Streaming and Hulu and I'm sure I'll love whatever other Cloud-based streaming services that come out in the future, but until ALL of those services have EVERYTHING that's ever come out on home video and streams/hosts them FOREVER and ever (never losing the rights to certain blah blah), streams them is crystal clear High-Def/Highest Quality picture and Audio and includes Commentary and Special Features, until that happens Physical Discs are better. The picture and sound is a big issue cause I'm a bit of a snob, but the availability thing is what will stop the "death" of Discs. I'm willing to bet only a 1/4 (if that) of my collection is available online. That's a deal breaker. (Ironically I feel the exact opposite about CD's. There's absolutely no advantage of a physical disc vs. mp3. What's the benefit? The booklet? I'd flip through those once and lose them forever. Possibly even use it as a Kleenex when I'm out. The jewel case? That breaks if you look at it funny. For a road trip I'll take my iPod with every song I ever want to listen to over lugging the CaseLogic CD holder with the handle that looks like you're carrying a suitcase with the Nuke codes in it any day)

Wow. Half of my list made it onto Soxtalk's. Color me surprised. The King is Dead is a great choice for #1. January Hymn reminds me of my childhood in the South Suburbs during the winter. Such amazing lyrics. Saw them last year at The Greek Theatre here and they were phenomenal. Colin's voice live might be even better than it is on the albums, which is why I will be picking up the live record when it comes out this year...

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?

Snydergaard? Deck? Do any of the Jays prospects have real names? -

QUOTE (southsidetony @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) I'd more likely trust if Sam Seaborn confirmed it. Like. -
Could never get into Justified based solely on my very strong dislike of Timothy Olyphant....

It always surprises me to see an album that comes out so late in the year (in this case The Black Keys album dropped in December) ranked so high on people's/publications lists. It sometimes takes me MONTHS and several listens to really appreciate ANY album I like. Very rarely does an album grab me right away, though it does happen...

Based on the two songs Sleigh Bells has released from the new album it's gonna DESTROY. I can't get "Comeback Kid" out of my head...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2012 -> 06:34 AM) BNightengale Bob Nightengale There really is no suspense. The All-Star Game will be at Citi Field in NY in 2013 and Target Field in Minneapolis in 2014 #MLB #twins #mets Makes sense. By my count if Oakland (or San Jose as it may be...) doesn't have a new stadium by 2016, there's no new AL stadiums to host a game (except Yankee Stadium but that won't work). However, in the NL, there's FIVE new stadiums that haven't hosted yet: Philly, San Diego, Miami (I'd guess they get the '15 game) Washington, and Cincinnati. Baltimore (23 years in '16), Texas (21 years in '16) and Toronto (25 years in '16) held the game the longest ago in the AL. Rogers Centre is boring as s***. They'd need a new stadium before they get another game I'd guess. Same goes with Tampa Bay. There's no chance Tropicana Field gets an All-Star Game ever. (Why do I care so much about this? I don't know haha)

The M's must be looking at what happened with the A's last year. You can have all the great young pitching you want, but if your offense is putrid you're not going anywhere. If Seattle can make a crazy push and get Fielder, they could, in theory trade Smoak for some young pitching if they wanted to replenish... As far as Pineda is concerned, he could dominate, but, I think there's equal chance he melts down in in NY. The whole Yankee Stadium pressure for a 23 year old kid.

With Kuroda and Pineda to NYY, does EJ for 1-2 years

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 14, 2012 -> 12:31 AM) Well, the Yankees went from suspect rotation to top 3 in the AL in a day. The Rangers are going to sign Fielder (if they can't sign Darvish). The Angels did what they did. The Rays continue to be brilliant. All the Red Sox need is another quality starter. The Tigers are the prohibitive favorites in the Central. The White Sox haven't been this irrelevant since 1995. I'm predicting 65-97. Can't wait to see how they'd blow that high of a draft pick! -
I'm no King fanatic, but I dug 11/22/63. But I'm also a sucker for time travel and alternate universes kind of s***. What was creepy was I finished the book on 11/22/11...didn't even realize it until like halfway though the day haha. I'm excited for the second part of The Passage trilogy to come out. The Twelve comes out in August. I'm re-reading The Passage now so it'll be fresh on my mind when I start the next book cause I've heard that it takes place at the same time as the first book...

I heard it. Music's alright, but pretty god awful lyrically... Had a discussion with a friend about 80's rock and I was saying that part of the appeal was it was all about partying, banging chicks and all around having fun. The lyrics weren't supposed to "say" a whole lot. That was the 80's for you. But in 2012 if you're still writing lyrics like that it sounds kind of ridiculous haha

That Iron & Wine album is so friggin' good...
