  1. Who knows what Herm did, but if anyone has ever seen the Documentary "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" you would know a hardcore juice fast for a month or so could drop some serious weight and quickly. Especially on a guy pushing +400 lbs like Hermie probably was...
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2012 -> 08:05 AM) Chuck Garfien @ChuckGarfien Tyler Flowers on new manager Robin Ventura: "He talks to me in English so that's good." Racist.
  3. Good for Herm. His front-butt was beginning to rival Charlie Weis...
  4. Was there ever an explanation as to why that was never done? I know those were only proposed plans, maybe they leaked, but that would have been awesome. Although it would have been a little too much of a rip off of Texas. Maybe put it in the left field stands instead and put the fan deck in right? The park is only 20 years old at this point. An added upper deck in the bleachers is still a possibility before they just go ahead and build another park...
  5. Until Beckham proves he can take a BP fastball to right field instead of missing it by 3 feet no way should he be in the 2-hole. I've actually never liked him in the 2-hole, but when he was going oppo regularly I was okay with it. If he was gonna become the super star we though he was (back in '10?) I would have preferred him in the 6 or 7 slot. Now he needs to stay 8, but really 9 until he can prove he can hit again... And I agree, platooning the young guys would be an idiotic move by Robin. Let the young guys play and experience bumps and bruises along the way. Hiding them on the bench wont help their development and that's basically all this season is gonna be good for, getting Morel De Aza and Viciedo AB's and plenty of them to see what we got.
  6. Pretty much spot on. The 2012 White Sox making the playoffs with the roster as assembled would be a freakin' miracle. I think the 2 biggest factors keeping KW and Jerry from going Full Rebuild are 2005 and the fact that they play in Chicago. Pride and loyalty gets too much in their heads and they can't or wont pull the trigger on something we all think should happen. The point of baseball SHOULD be to win, and not worry if fans leave because a team is in rebuild mode. Hardcore Sox fans won't stop attending games if a rebuild were to happen. Sure fairweather/casual fans would but they'd also come soaring back if the Sox started to win... I don't think anyone here is fearing that the Sox will be contracted or something if attendance goes in the tank for a few years.
  7. For the Sox to win the Central only 2 things need to happen. Quite Simple: Have a hot April/May. Have a winning percentage above .600 vs. the Division for the season. Not doing both has doomed them the last few years. Unfortunately, the team as constructed would have to have SO MANY lucky things happen all at once to pull it off. It just seems impossible: A simultaneous comeback from Dunn, Rios, and Beckham. Jake Peavy having no set backs and pitching his ass off. Danks and Floyd not being the maddeningly inconsistent starters they've been all of their careers on the South Side. Humber proving last year wasn't a fluke and Sale making a seamless transition popping the gun in the upper 90's all season long (not the 93 I'm sure he's gonna top out at most of the season) Thornton being able to shake off the nightmare of early 2011 or Reed stepping up and dominating ala Craig Kimbrel. The 2012 Sox have ONE player they can count on to put up numbers a contender needs and that's Paulie. Everything else is a small to huge question mark. That's not gonna win you many games in baseball... That being said I am excited to see Reed, De Aza, Morel (see if that September was a fluke or not) and Viciedo growing up. Maybe not excited enough to pay to watch the games, but excited to at least track their progress
  8. Not that anyone besides delusional Cub fans should expect anything from the 2013 team, it would be interesting to see them play a different park with a more normal schedule as far as day games and night games, like would the 2008 Cubs playing at the Cell (or anywhere that's not Wrigley really) have gone to the Series?
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 12:19 PM) There has been a lot of talk over the years about the day games killing them. Yeah that's gotta screw up your internal clock as a ballplayer when you mix that with road trip to places where you alternate night/day games. And playing ALL day games before '88? Forget about it...
  10. I completely buy into the theory that one of the major factors in the Cubs not winning a Series in 100+ years in playing 81 games a year at Wrigley. (I swear there was an article written recently, but damned if I can't remember where I saw it/who wrote it. Nor has google helped)
  11. I'm calling it now. Kosuke will hit a walk off bomb against the Cubs this season...
  12. So this guy is not a jail because...? Look I get it. Celebs rarely face the harsh punishment of the law, but why would ANYONE buy his albums, cheer for him at the Grammy's or just accept that he's walking free? How was he not booed at all on Sunday or booed on the f***ing street every single f***ing day. What an asshole. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1606481/c...tercation.jhtml
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) Marc Topkin @TBTimes_Rays Follow #Rays - Maddon 3-year contract extension is done, announcement expected Wednesday That makes Martinez not going anywhere even more perplexing. Especially if he thought he'd take over sooner than 3 years...
  14. The Central is gonna be a joke outside of Detroit next season....
  15. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 11:05 AM) That is a bold, full of courage stance There has been nothing really done to improve the team for the 2012 season. Just banking on a different perspective from a manager and multiple concurrent bounce back seasons from three of the nine players in the starting line-up, of which in the other six only one can be counted on day in and day out (Paulie) Couple that with a rotation top-lined by two maddeningly inconsistent starters throughout their White Sox career, one injury waiting to happen (again) one with just an okay season and one starting for the first time in the bigs. When I think about that I don't think I'm being too bold... Too much has to go right for this team to even break .500 and I have a hard time seeing it all come together at once.
  16. I still haven't backed off my thoughts the 2012 Sox could be a 95 loss team.
  17. There was a time I would write down when Pitchers & Catchers report on a Calendar. Now, I'd be damned if I know when they report. I just don't care this season and it BUMS. ME. OUT.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) This type of post is ridiculous and becoming all too common around these parts. So anyone who hated it is some nerd who writes pages about hating it, but anyone who sat back, relaxed, and strapped it down (and enjoyed it, of course) is just simply able to enjoy tv! Hey, I'm a nerd who enjoyed it. I can fit into both categories. It's just my opinion, I'm not gonna try and convince people who hated it that they were wrong. I was just spelling out how I viewed the finale and show in general. Writing/Producing great television is f***ing HARD, so I'm willing to cut people some slack for giving me (for the most part) free entertainment....
