Here's a very good solution for dh/bench
Bob Sacamano replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't think he's the odd man out in LA. I think they end up moving Guerrero this spring. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 04:16 PM) Marcus Sem-ian desmond jennings Really trying to expand on this but I don't think there is anyone with a first name "Jennings" or last name of "Marcus" unfortunately.

QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 10:24 PM) Big Time. For the first time we saw players taking QO. Think in future many more older players begin to take. "In the future" this likely won't be the case at all and teams won't get compensation for free agents.

Soooo no follow up to this?

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 06:22 PM) BPA who at their selection, esp in the early rounds were probably pitchers. can someone ask if they think Fulmer is a SP or a RP ????? Of course they would say starter. He's a starter until he fails.

QUOTE (coco1997 @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) Ian Desmond Jennings? Haha I was a bit confused about why that was posted in here.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 12:35 PM) Crazy to see Longoria not on this list. Says a lot about the young 3B in the league. Hadn't even occurred to me until you pointed that out.

Carpenter is definitely underrated.

Will a radio station be covering this around 4:30? That's when I get off work and it usually takes me about 45 mins to get home. Would like to listen.
-
Probably a one day contract to retire with the team.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) Jennings possible trade chip. Lots of teams linked to him already. I could see Loney potentially moved too.
-
How many OF/DH does Tampa need? Loney, Morrison, Jennings, Kiermaier, Souza Jr, and now Dickerson. Plus it sounds like Brad Miller will see some time in the OF (depending on what else they do at short).

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 09:40 AM) Fowler makes much more sense than most people think. Having him at the top of the order in front of guys like Abreu & Frazier could be a very nice thing. Sox really struggled to get on a base & ultimately score runs. They've added some power & now add a OBP guy like Fowler & that should equate for much more runs than some people think. Is he the missing piece? Maybe not, but he'll sure help. Agree and him in one of the corners has to be better than Avi or Melky. Add Fowler does have some power himself. I'm actually starting to warm up to the idea of him coming to our team. He's pretty much the only guy I would give up a pick for out of the remaining four players.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 09:32 AM) I left Avi off because I'm not sure what to do. Guess DH platoon but sucks to waste a roster spot on a guy who isn't good at any one thing. Agree. I'd rather not waste a bench spot on a guy who may only DH against lefties. Would rather have a guy who could get into the outfield moving Melky to DH.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 09:25 AM) I don't know what his 2 hole numbers have been but that's where I'd put him tentatively: Eaton Fowler Abreu Frazier Melky Lawrie LaRoche Navila Saladino This is the lineup I'd use too. LaRoche in the 7th spot takes a bit of pressure off of him. Get him in at first more often then last year to increase his value with his defense. I still hope we get a bat to platoon with him. Edit: oh yeah Avi (unless they deal him or send him to AAA.

Olney predicts 14 year/$407 million deal for Harper

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 09:19 AM) If FO believes that he is a lock to leave they need to trade in 2 years to maximize that return then. So he may be gone in two years actually. If the next 2 years are bad and the future looks bleak, I could see them opening up to the possibility mid-2017. Also depends on the arms coming up which could still be drafted this year/already in the system. -

Oh wait I always forget about his first year in the pen. That's what always throws it off for me. -

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) It's actually three years of free agency. But on top of that they also gave him guaranteed money for his last pre-arbitration year and all three of his arbitration years. It definitely should be considered a long term extension as you are guaranteeing him his salary for 5 years where most pre-arbitration guys don't have that luxury. Ah for some reason I kept thinking it was 2. And I understand the concept of signing guys early. Teams like the Royals, Rays and Pirates seem to do that with everyone who comes up because they have to. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) But it saved a ton of money. If the Sox did what Caulfield says is stupid, it would have cost them a lot more. Yes it did. And nothing that guy says ever makes much sense. -

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 08:57 AM) Yeah I'm not sure why anybody would argue that the Sale contract is anything less than gosh darn delightful for the Sox. I don't see where exactly I argued it isn't. Just saying it really only buys 2 years of control. It is a steal and everyone here knows it. Just acknowledging that he will still get paid. -
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 08:42 AM) So that means the Cubs would have to make two trades to fit him in. Seems unlikely, especially if someone moves on him soon. I could see Hammel being a throw-in in a deal just to replace depth for a team the Cubs get a starter from.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 08:42 AM) The point is to avoid situations like the Danks contract that hamstring payroll flexibility. But I'm sure you will still argue we got our money's worth, nevertheless. Danks, despite being overpaid, isn't really hamstringing them. He's a solid number 5. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 08:36 AM) Are you kidding me? Ian Kennedy gets $70 million. What do you think Chris Sale would get? When he becomes a free agent, a s***load. He's still in for a big payday. Buying out two years isn't changing that. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 08:21 AM) Sox f***ed up giving Sale and Q long term extensions. Buying 2 years of free agency on Sale isn't much of an extension in my opinion. -
