QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 10:00 PM) so you can count.... impressive, however according to baseball ref he is 30 now.... do the counting. i will like the contract to end at age 34... but that is me... baseball FO has their own mind. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cespeyo01.shtml He is 30 now correct and a 5 year deal would take him through his age 34 season. Just turned 30 a couple months ago.

Keep Forgetting about Carson Fulmer
Bob Sacamano replied to Thomas_Ventura_Roberts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 11:24 PM) I mean that there is a scenario where he is worse than an elite closer. I think he ends up as a solid #2 starter, but it is possible for him to be worse than an elite closer. Definitely. I hope we don't see him in the rotation this year. Build up more innings this year in the minors plus possible late bullpen addition for potential playoff push. -
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) This contract makes literally no f***ing sense. Why not use that $70 million to try to lock up one of their stars (Hosmer, Moustakas, Cain, etc) rather than signing an aging NL pitcher? I don't get it, but more power to them. Hosmer and Moustakas are Boras clients correct? No way they'd be able to re-sign them if that's the case.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) If Davis would just sign with the O's it would change the whole game with Cespedes. He would then truly have to take a lesser contract because there is no one else willing, it seems, that would be able to pay him Orioles money. Davis take the damn money already dude. WTH are you waiting on? No one else is going to give you over 125mil. Seriously.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 06:35 AM) I think it's way too early to consider an extension. We got to see how he handles 2B and if he takes any steps forward with the bat. I think around the All-Star break is far more realistic. This. I say wait.

Dude has no power. Hard pass.

Baltimore might as well move on and say f*** Chris Davis. Cespedes will be less money, years and with Davis still out there to sign with another team, you can still receive a comp pick for him.

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
Bob Sacamano replied to blackmooncreeping's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Sockin @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) It probably has nothing to do with other moves but is it possible Alexei signing with the Padres indicates the Sox are ready to move on something? I would imagine Alexei went to the Sox and asked if they wanted to match or work something out. I wouldn't imagine Alexei signing somewhere else effects the time line on any other moves. They've known he was going somewhere else. -
Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
Bob Sacamano replied to blackmooncreeping's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't see why they need to move on from Cespedes yet. I don't see many teams in on Fowler or Jackson (my preference out of him and Fowler) to the point where we need to start being worried about not getting anyone. -
Dexter Fowler as a secondary option

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) Here's what I continue to not like about Fowler. He is not a bad player. He's a good player! But I hate this outfield for the next 3 years: Melky Eaton Fowler At its best, that is maybe 45 HRs from the outfield, but more realistically it is around 30. We would still want to upgrade one of those positions throughout fowlers contract. Melky is only signed for 2 more years and is likely the 2017 DH but I get your point. -
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) Did you watch the playoffs? He's probably the best option out of him, Granderson and Conforto.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:30 AM) Some rumors that Cespedes might be close to going back to the Mets http://www.nysportsday.com/2016/01/13/excl...-with-the-mets/ Man they really lucked out with Cuddyer retiring.

Marlins sign Dee Gordon to 5 year/$50 million deal
Bob Sacamano replied to OmarComing25's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (shysocks @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 08:51 AM) Unfair to compare this to an open market contract for Cespedes/et al. 5/$50 seems great, but don't forget he was still an arb guy before this deal, so it isn't as much of a discount as it seems once you factor that in. MLBTR put his arb projection at $5.9 for 2016. Assuming raises to $9 and $12 in 2017 and 2018 (total stabs in the dark, I admit), that would make this more like a $2/23 extension. Which is still nice. Could just say it buys out 2 years of free agency or whatever. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 08:28 AM) Jesus can something just happen? The Sox landing a big OF bat makes them a legit contender. Let's do this. 176 pages of Cespedes talk
-
QUOTE (Saufley @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) So Rotoworld is now reporting that the Braves have some interest. Mets still not wanting to go over 2-3 years. When are the Sox going to swoop in and sign Cespedes to the 4 year deal. I thought the Braves were rebuilding and why would they have interest? Put some fans in the seats and trade him in a year or two without giving up a draft pick now.

QUOTE (ypres @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 01:50 PM) That shouldn't be hard. Thought the same thing when I saw his post earlier but didn't feel like posting haha

Yeah I actually think Kasper is pretty good overall (except his voice).
-
QUOTE (bjm676 @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 10:57 AM) The Mets did free up some money when Cuddyer retired. I wouldn't rule them out. That's a good point.

Hawk and Stone get multi-year extensions
Bob Sacamano replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 10:54 AM) The 3 home games he's doing are the Cubs games. He actually has a harder travel schedule for home games rather than away games. Pretty sure he has to commute to and from Indiana for every game. I remember someone on here saying it's 2-3 hours each way. Actually it's the home opener and the 2 Cubs home games. -
Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
Bob Sacamano replied to blackmooncreeping's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 08:58 AM) If the Cubs end up trading Soler to Tampa for pitching, you have to think Fowler going back to the Cubs comes into play big time. I could see them bringing back Jackson to play center and hit low in the order since he's cheaper and still a good defender. I'm still sticking to my guns that Heyward will be in RF opening day. -
Connor McKnight named the new Pre/Post Host for White Sox
Bob Sacamano replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Does Swirsky still call Bulls game? I doubt it'll be him if that's the case. -
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) raBBit on twitter just now says Fowler has moved into most likely, with Cespedes and Upton now being more difficult possibilities. Seems to really dismiss Upton now. I wonder is that is just his opinion or confirmed from his inside source.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) Again, who are the teams that are going to jump in? I see a lot of posters claiming more teams will jump in, but few are offering suggestions about which teams actually would. I think it's an overblown fear. Toronto and St. Louis are the only ones I can think of. I still think we end up with Cespedes or Upton though.
