  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 07:51 PM) That would move Melky to RF, which he has played very sparingly. Cespedes has never played right, and I seem to recall him causing a ruckus about his position when with Boston. I do like the idea of not moving Avi purely to platoon DH. If we get another outfielder, I prefer him getting at bats in Charlotte every day in anticipation of a possible LaRoche release if he is terrible the first few months.
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 07:29 PM) Not much difference between Avi and Melky. But using Melky as a lefty platoon doesn't make much sense. Maybe he means Melky gets time in DH spot against lefties but plays outfield against righties? Though that would technically be a platoon of LaRoche and guy who plays outfield against lefties (as of now, Avi).
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) @PatrickHoward50 Per source within the White Sox organization; team will ink Yoenis Cespedes to a 6-year deal. Dollar amount pegged at $125-135 million. Hmm we'll find out soon how credible this guy is.
  4. I'm alright bringing him in on a one year deal. If he looks terrible and shows nothing in spring training cut bait.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 02:32 PM) One thing I read about Saladino that may surprise people is according to Bill James, his time to 2nd base on steal attempts is only eclipsed by 3 players...a guy named Noel who basically is a minor leaguer, Billy Hamilton, and Dyson. Maybe he can become an elite basestealer. I didn't know that. Nice find. I don't think we will need to worry about Saladino as long as everyone else hits like they should. He'd be fine in number 9 spot as long as he's playing solid D.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) raBBit, if you had to guess right now, who do you think the Sox are getting? His guess is as good as ours. You won't know until they sign someone.
  7. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 01:20 PM) ...I like boobs, let's not insult them like that. Agree
  8. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) Good point. Is Melky going to be the #2 hitter if we don't bring in Gordon (as opposed to Cespedes)? I'd rather have Melky down the lineup a bit into a run producing slot and have Gordon and his higher OBP hitting in front of Abreu. Melky out of the 2 hole extends the lineup by pushing Frazier, Melky and Laroche further down the order. Cespedes is a much sexier bat, but Gordon probably makes them a better team top to bottom. These are my predicted lineups: W/ Gordon: Eaton CF Gordon LF Abreu 1B/DH Frazier 3B Cabrera RF Lawrie 2B LaRoche DH/1B Platoon C Saladino SS W/ Cespedes: Eaton CF Cabrera RF/LF Abreu 1B/DH Cespedes LF/RF Frazier 3B LaRoche DH/1B Lawrie 2B Platoon C Saladino SS
  9. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) I have a feeling that something will happen soon. Let's hope so. Actually I work today and tomorrow so I prefer something to happen at around 5:30 tomorrow. Would be a great way to kick off a 4-day weekend!
  10. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) To those of you who assert that the best way for an organization to structure a contract is to "back load" it, I disagree, if the objective is to give the team flexibility by encouraging the player to opt out. If the big money comes later in the deal, why would the player opt out. Reverse the numbers in my hypothetical example with Cespedes: 6 years for $150 Million 1ST 3 years at $20 Million per year Last 3 years @ $30 Million per year That would all but guarantee that the team will be paying the entire contract, as Cespedes would have little incentive to opt out. Please explain what I am missing, and don't quibble about the total amount, as it is a hypothetical example. I think posters just mean backload it after this year. I know I do. So if you gave him a 5 year deal, the first year would be less than the other 4, but then the other 4 would be equal payments.
  11. Mlbtr hasn't posted anything new regarding any players or teams in over 17 hours. Very slow Tuesday around the MLB.
  12. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 07:31 AM) My memory of the Harper situation is that he did graduate high school early, not to get drafted earlier, but to get into a Junior College program and thus better competition for what would have been his senior year in H.S. His draft date did not change. This is correct. Graduated high school early, went to Junior College, mashed and got drafted at what, 17?
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 05:40 PM) And yet, at the suggestion that the Sox do something like that, people squawk to high heaven and demand trading young players for "proven veterans". And, of couse, Kenny Williams obliged. (thankfully Hahn negotiates the deals once the proven veteran is identified). McCutchen is a better player than anyone on the Sox, and is an absolute star, so they better be careful about trading him. It's not really the same. Like at all.
  14. The NL has some really good teams and some really terrible teams. I'd say that the AL is more even and competitive amongst all the teams. The bad AL teams from last season (White Sox, Tigers, Red Sox) are even trying to make a run at the post-season next year.
  15. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) We can thank overrated Jason Heyward for this. Or lack of big spenders out there. The usual teams that spend much have already spent on another position of need or aren't spending at all.
  16. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 12:59 PM) Looks to be a strikeout kind of pitcher judging by minor league stats, ERA under 3.00 but limited major league exposure and his age is 29. Yeah most likely just minor league depth. Charlotte needs relievers too.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 11:41 AM) Thanks, Einstein. Point is, they have time to make another move or two. The impatience here is almost comical. Haha I was just being that guy. I do agree people are too impatient. It's December 28th people.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) 98 days until Sale vs Gray Assuming he or Gray are not injured.
  19. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 11:06 AM) Did the White Sox back out on Alex gordon offer today. Was it ever officially confirmed there was an offer out there?
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 09:19 AM) Buehrle 4/Johnson 5 is significantly better than Johnson 4/Danks 5. I'm not arguing that. I'm saying you can't just make Danks disappear and it's not worth it to eat a large chunk of his salary since he really isn't as bad as people make him sound.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 08:34 AM) What would it take to get him back to Chicago for a year? $6M? Would love to get Danks out of the rotation. If you can move Danks entire contract allowing them to sign Buehrle and make room for a big bat then sure. Danks is a fine 5th starter though who is most likely not going anywhere.
  22. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 07:41 AM) Do they ever!!! Melky, Eaton and Avi would be lucky to hit a total of 40, between the 3 of them. The front office can't possibly allow the season to begin with this roster. They will surely add someone. Let's just hope that they get the right one, and that he doesn't flop. It's not only the power shortage. How many guys would you expect to have OBP's of .350 or higher? I count Abreu, Eaton and maybe Cabrera. So, they have two legitimate power hitters in Abreu and Frazier, and two good OBP hitters in Abreu and Eaton. If they plan to compete this year, I'm sure that they know they are short at the very least, one more productive bat. But then, we too, all know that. The suspense seems only to be exceeded by the boredom. Come on. Do something, already!!! Agree. I'm not counting on Eaton to hit as many as he did (which I guess is fine since he is the leadoff hitter but still). You can argue that they'd be lucky to hit 30 combined.
  23. Yeah I prefer Melky in the 2 spot with a new OF hitting 4th or 5th than Gordon hitting 2nd and Melky hitting 5th (although in that scenario I guess LaRoche can hit 7th).
  24. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 27, 2015 -> 09:32 PM) What new news? There isn't any. Just random tweets without credibility (Most likely) over the last few days.
