QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) With all of this going on with Loria and Boras/Ozuna I can't imagine any team will pay full value for Ozuna, espcially since he's coming off of a down year. EJ and Avi really doesn't seem like that bad of deal...maybe we throw in Beck too? I just don't see why they would want Avi wth Yelich as the primary LF and Stanton as the primary RF unless they decide to sacrifice a little defense in center with Yelich's bat there.

The 40-man, Rule 5, and roster decisions
Bob Sacamano replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) Per @MLBPipeline, highly ranked Rule 5-eligible #WhiteSox prospects NOT added to 40-man: Ps Onelki Garcia, Myles Jaye, 1B Keon Barnum. https://twitter.com/philgrogers/status/667868208834154498 Sort of shocked that Jaye wasn't protected. -
If we don't give up much to get him, I'm for it. If he does good, we can offer a QO after 2016.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 07:39 AM) Disagree 100%. With a core of Abreu, Sale, Eaton and Quintana all in the prime of their career and Rodon soon to be breaking out there is no reason to completely rebuild. While 2016 may not be the year to go all in, I think they should be setting themselves up this year to make that push in 2017. So what would you do for this year? Sign stop gaps (guys like Freese and Asdrubal Cabrera, maybe one year of Doug Fister) and hope to flip them?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) Posters mention players ceilings all the time. That is best case scenario. The problem IMO with Avi and a lot of White Sox players recently, is they are not high baseball IQ guys, and that hurts you in so many ways. You make bad decisions on the bases, in the field, and at the plate. It takes those guys longer to adjust back after pitchers and defenses have adjusted to them. While high ceilings are great, and you need to have these guys in your organization , relying on that being reached or coming close is fools gold. Agree. They don't have very smart players.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 06:43 PM) Saying he has a 30/30 ceiling isn't saying he is a 30/30 guy. It's basically saying he can be though. He doesn't look anything near that now. Obviously he isn't if he hasn't done it.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) Same Sox management who said he was a 30/30 guy are the same wanting to trade him. Sox are lacking badly in talent evaluation. They also toyed with the idea of him playing center after the 2013 season lol
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) Do you have a link where someone in Sox management said he was a 30/30 guy? Kenny has. I'll look later though to see if I can dig any up.

If the Dodgers just want to dump him, I'd gladly take him. Not straight up for Q though.

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) ok maybe i am missing something. walker as it stand is making 8 mil and is in his final yr in arb. he is a fa in 17. so we are talking 1 yr and plus prospects to get him. depending on the prospects. who know. a fa for 3b is a minimum of a 5 yr contract, and at what cost?? trey and whatever prospects for 3b will be held back. let alone the cost of the contract at which someone already mention that the sox are or will be limited. next the state of this system was not done in the last few yrs but was done b/c of the ineptitude of the sox management over the course of many yrs and yet the sox will still restrict the cost to right this ship. this was done with the owners knowledge and my question is how does he expect the team to become better?? What free agent 3B is worth a 5 year contract? I see David Freese getting a 2 year (with an option) at most.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) Sox FO should sit down to discuss the possibility of acquiring Puig amongst themselves, weigh the pros and cons, come to a consensus, and then do the opposite. So if the consensus is don't acquire him, acquire him?

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) That's probably true, but an outfield spot will open up for them once Fowler leaves. Avi would be a much cheaper (albeit less talented) alternative to Heyward/Upton/Cespedes/etc Where would Avi play? Center? That would be an amusing train wreck to say the least.

"The White Sox, Black Holes, and Trading Quintana
Bob Sacamano replied to Eminor3rd's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd actually be fine with that deal haha I'm the one who's suggested Villanueva a few times on here. (This was in regards to Villanueva Vogelbach for Johnson offer). But I would think the Cubs would be more likely to just call up Pierce Johnson who honestly looks good himself judging by minor league numbers. -
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 05:53 PM) Done Deal. Arrieta wins the Cy Young. This ought to blow up his price. When Steve Stone explained why he would probably win a few months ago it made sense. If anyone had any sort of bias towards LA, Greinke and Kershaw would likely split the votes.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 04:47 PM) For those that are wanting Rich Hill, he is close to signing, Rays and Padres look to be the front runners. I get the reasoning why some people wanted Hill to sign with the Sox, but injury risk, and the amount of innings he has pitched in the last 6 years just don't add up with his age. People on here were saying they'd offer 2 years and almost 20 mill for him. He's expected to sign for 1/$5 mill haha

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) I hope Sale gives the Sox a 'Hometown Discount' after his current deal is up, but I don't see that as being realistic. I'd love it though if he was on the Sox for his entire career. Up to now, he really has no reason to give them a discount. Already signed a team-friendly deal and the team has been horrible over the past 3 years. I'm sure he'd rather go somewhere where he could compete.. We'll see how the next few years go and see if we have any success.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 11:07 AM) Ok, maybe $400 million is a little crazy, but I do think he'd get a deal similar to Kershaw at the very least. He keeps pitching the way he has been, he certainly won't be with this organization after 2019. Contracts escalate every offseason. He'll get a 7/8 year deal worth at least 30/35 mill a year.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 12:29 PM) Because he's not worth that much? Not really what my point was. He probably would have rejected it as he was still undecided about even playing and only had a week to decide if he should take it or not. I remember during the season people on here even said he'd for sure get one, and that's when everyone thought the QO would even higher. But then again it was likely out of respect for him so he had a chance to go somewhere else.

I'm feeling a move some time this week. Don't know who or what position but I feel we're due.

Should the White Sox and Atlanta talk trade?
Bob Sacamano replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 06:31 AM) i wonder what posters opinion of the sox getting cf-Maybin from Atl. I'd be ok with it. Don't know what his value is though. I did however read that the Braves may have to deal him if no one will take Bourn or Swisher. -
Should the White Sox and Atlanta talk trade?
Bob Sacamano replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Who else do you think will be available? Besides Freeman (probably their best asset), Swisher and Bourn (wouldn't get much back)? Maybin? Some of their young starters in the MLB already to make room for guys just stock piled for? -
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 15, 2015 -> 05:52 PM) The Braves are shopping Freddie Freeman https://t.co/WYpzvdFXSw https://twitter.com/HardballTalk/status/666029422525284352 Wonder if the Sox would try. I would assume not.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 08:48 PM) There's no possible way the White Sox could ever get true value for Sale. They'd have to find a team that is so stacked at the minor league level that they'd be willing to trade (and probably destroy) their top prospects for him. These top prospects can't be from a team like the current White Sox system; they would have to come from an organization that has 4 or 5 top 50 MLB prospects, and it's hard to argue that the White Sox shouldn't get all of these prospects back. Even if the White Sox were more focused on getting major league talent back, you're still talking 1-2 top young pieces plus minor league talent from that top 50 MLB list. It's just extremely unlikely that the White Sox will be able to find a team willing to move as much as they should seemingly ask for. I agree with this. Can't see him being moved until mid-2017 at the earliest when he has 2.5 season of control (and not a rental) left as opposed to 4. Edit: I should say mid-2017 if we are doing bad and are out of it in June/July and if the state of the organization still looks rough. At that point, deal him for max val

QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 15, 2015 -> 03:29 PM) Did you see what the Bosox gave up for Kimbrel? They have more prospects left, plus Swihart. Not saying it'll happen, but I hear it's being discussed. Source assuming what you're talking about is the White Sox and Red Sox are talking about a deal?
