White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 08:26 AM) I feel like the Sox did flukeishly underperform last year though. No one expected Samardzija, LaRoche, Garcia, Gillaspie, Sanchez, etc to be that bad. Even if they just played to their career averages, the Sox would've won 83-85 games last season IMO. Also in the disagree group and willing to say I expected big regression in Gillespie and a little bit of regression in Abreu, Eaton and Sale. Also was skeptical about LaRoche but I thought Melky and Samardzija would have been better. Edit: Eaton was awesome too last year I should say. He wasn't the same scrappy player from 14 but managed to hit what, 13 more homers?

2018 Potential Free Agents
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 02:20 AM) Was reading through Bleacher Report and came across an article by Jeff Passan about the possible free agent list for 2018. It's stupid good. It's almost hard to fathom the contracts some of the names will receive in 2018. Especially the way contracts have been increasing dramatically from year to year. But I thought it was a good read and a good topic of discussion. https://t.co/Q6juVf3HGL Machado as a 26 year old free agent is interesting...

2018 Potential Free Agents
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 02:21 AM) By the way as the article states the Philles have $0 on the book for 2019... Yeah because rookie contracts and arb years aren't guaranteed.

Todd Frazier Available
Well they don't have to move him now. They can wait to see if a team is desperate come June and July.

The LaRoche article dug up from 2015
Michael Cuddyer is retiring forfeiting all (he may get some of it) his salary for this year. Why can't we get that lucky?
-
Todd Frazier Available
Anyone think we have the pieces to get a deal done without moving Fulmer or Anderson? It'd probably have to be more of a quantity over quality move. But I doubt the Reds have much motivation to move him right now.

Plans for rest of the Off Season
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 07:04 PM) From ESPN: They sure as hell better not be done with that outfield. I'm confident they're not done (not willing to bet on it though). If the team looks like this 2 months from now around the time Spring Training starts, I'm predicting a 5th place finish (4th at best).

Jason Heyward to Cubs (8 yrs 184M)
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 06:39 PM) Those were two bad teams trying to get better, this is a really good team who has gotten a lot better. They're obviously not guaranteed anything but they're absolutely one of, if not the favorite to win it all going into the season. True that. I'm not a Cubs hater by any means and it's interesting seeing what they're doing. All we can realistically ask for as baseball fans is meaningful games in September and I think their fans are in for a treat.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 06:31 PM) You can win the offseason but that doesn't guarantee you'll win the WS. See the 2015 Chicago White Sox and 2015 San Diego Padres.

Who are the worst players in White Sox history?
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) Why does it seem like the Sox always get former superstars past their prime? Dunn, Thome, Vizquel, Manny Ramirez, Andruw Jones, Griffey, etc. The list goes on and on. Erstad was a good ballplayer who was on the decline when we got him. Roberto Alomar too.

Eaton vs Heyward
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) mma is poo Agree. Wrestling as well.

Eaton vs Heyward
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:37 PM) *3 years *CF, where he's played all of 35 career games I don't care what they say, he'll be in RF next season.

Eaton vs Heyward
QUOTE (Saufley @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) I don't get it Steve. It's comparing 2015 stats. What's your question or input? Not the fact they're being compared just that the title makes it sound like a pay per view fight haha

Eaton vs Heyward
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) I would have LOVED the Sox to have signed Heyward to that deal. Me too. I would have enticed him with opt outs every year though after the first four. Off year? Accept player option. Following season bounceback? Opt out and look for more money. Would have been fine with me.

Eaton vs Heyward
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 03:59 PM) LOL just the title of this thread is hilarious. Makes it sound like some sort of throwdown....is Celebrity Death Match still around to make this happen?
-
Jason Heyward to Cubs (8 yrs 184M)
He can opt out after 4th or after third depending on amount of at bats. Wow that's a hell of a deal.

Thoughts On The Upcoming Season
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 04:01 PM) Yeah, it's not like Hahn just said they're going to make more moves. Easier said than done. It's possible teams want too much prospect wise for players want to sign for more money. Ihope we get Cespedes.

Jason Heyward to Cubs (8 yrs 184M)
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:08 PM) So guesses on where the outfielders go: Gordon: Cardinals Upton: Giants Davis (not an OF): Orioles Fowler: Mets Cespedes: Tigers f*** we need to sign someone.

Jason Heyward to Cubs (8 yrs 184M)
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:49 PM) Wouldn't be that shocking if Cubs were going after Jose Fernandez this entire time. Soler/Baez/Contreras/Hendricks/Torres could easily get it done. I could see it. Probably take more though. They have other good prospects.

Jason Heyward to Cubs (8 yrs 184M)
2 hours ago: "Man I really want the Sox to sign Heyward at all costs." Now: "Meh he's no good." I literally have seen a few people flip flop that easy.

Plans for rest of the Off Season
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 11:36 AM) I'd like to unload Avi and LaRoche too but it really makes no sense to diminish Q's value by throwing them in. Yeah especially when one only has one year left and the other can go to the minors.

Teams asking about Thompson
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 08:47 PM) How many wins does Lawrie add? One? How many wins would Frazier add with a big year? 4 or 5? That gets us to .500, people. Big whoop. This needs to be a year for development. See what we have. Sure we can trade Trayce....but no one is going to give us a premium price for him precisely because he doesn't have the minor league pedigree. Had he torn it up in the minors AND had a month like this, he'd be a top 10 prospect. We may have a gem. We may not. But I doubt he's dud. See what we have in Sanchez as well. And Micah. Let Saladino fill whatever we need. See how the A ball talent (which looks strong) develps. It still can be a year of development with Lawrie trade. He's young and we didn't give up much to worry about. Fact is we had an older Mike Olt as the likely starter. Granted, I doubt we're done yet.

Who are the worst players in White Sox history?
QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 05:03 PM) We do this thread every year, and every year the correct answer is Jaime Navarro. Factor in his salary, playing time, attitude, opportunity cost and general suckiness--his best ERA+ with the Sox was 81!--no one can hold a candle to him in my opinion. His only redeeming quality was that we got Eldred and Valentin for him, leading to the successful 2000 team. Otherwise...yuck. He was the worst. I agree. Guys who maybe had a handful of appearance and we're cheap with the team shouldn't count because they didn't really effect the team too much.

Jason Heyward to Cubs (8 yrs 184M)
Nats are apparently a real threat to sign him. They have a TV deal coming soon too forrect? They're gonna need it to pay Heyward and eventually Harper.

Jason Heyward to Cubs (8 yrs 184M)
QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) The problem is that he will likely not be able to sustain that defensive prowess for the latter years of a 10 year contract. A good hitter might be able to produce big offensive production in his 30's, but elite defense is a little tougher. Give him an opt out every year after year 4 and he likely only plays 4-5 years of that contract.
