Guys Fulmer can't be traded so don't worry.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) Why? They have Jansen who is a beast. Also, going after Iwakuma. Or to just give more depth to the bullpen. Chapman gets ninth and everyone else moves down a peg.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) I think it could apply to either pitcher depending on the Rockies preference. I think Q and Arenado is pretty close to being 1-1 with the Sox likely kicking something in but if we're talking Sale than its the Rockies likely kicking something in. I'm not saying this will happen, just using Arenado as an example since his name was brought up. I would be stunned if Colorado actually traded him. Agree. I wouldn't be shocked to hear about an extension in the next few months for him.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 01:03 PM) Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 15m15 minutes ago From the not-a-surprise department: Multiple GMs say because of the price of free agents, they expect trade action in Nashville to be big. Last year's was huge. I think there were more trades last year than like the 5 combined prior.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) Cespedes just had a career year, I'd rather not pay the price tag that comes along with it. Heyward will definitely be worth his contract, defense in general is still very underrated. Preventing a run is the same as generating one. Agree. I prefer Cespedes to Upton, but I really don't want either.
-
QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:42 AM) O'Day is probably worth that but why would the Orioles, a team that doesn't project to be very good, dish out for him? I find it odd too. Especially when they've been so cheap with their spending past few years.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 11:49 AM) Yup. So really we'd be signing him to like a 5 year deal. Only reason why I'm ok with them signing him. I don't really want either Upton or Cespedes (depending on amount of years) personally. Upton just seems like the kind of guy that would come here and just suck. Injury prone, K's a lot, below average defense. Pass. Although if they signed one of those two I would probably be irrationally excited until we found out either were bad deals.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 11:46 AM) Ya I agree. He's in a unique position being 26 years old. He'll double dip. Yep. He'll sign a big deal now and then opt out around 30/31 and get another 5/6 year deal.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) I feel like Hayward is going to have a career like Adrian Beltre. Some great offensive years, some .700 -.720 ops years, but always elite defense. Unsure if that's worth 200 million. I think if we were to get him on an 8/9 year deal with opt-outs after year 4 or 5, his older years won't even matter because he likely won't be our problem.
-
We'd have to out spend on him though compared to other teams. If it's close between us, Cards and potential other teams coming off good years, we won't even be considered.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) If we had not decided to go for it this year and hadn't signed Robertson, LaRoche, and Melky, would we have been big players in this FA market? I think they'd probably go after Heyward since they were interested in him before he was traded to Cardinals and have shown willingness to spend (Tanaka effort).
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:39 AM) Also considering he has trouble staying healthy and is 35, this was likely way more than anyone else offered, both in AAV and number of years. Yep. And it's always hard to count Oakland out. They've been competitive in the past with less than appealing rosters.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:29 AM) You answered your own question, for 99% of players money >>>>>> chance to win, plus he already has a ring. You'd probably do the same. Exactly what I said. He's what in his mid 30s, already has 2 world series rings. It's just about security for his family now (granted he's already made millions but still).
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 05:00 AM) Unless it's too good to pass on, I'd rather keep my closer and have a legit closer to win games I'd rather free up the 3/36 and get a couple good prospects and then sign another reliever or two and try Jones out in the 9th.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:21 AM) Right handed starters on FA market that would interest me: Kenta Maeda Henderson Alvarez Trevor Cahill Doug Fister Edwin Jackson Mat Latos Tim Lincecum Brandon Morrow A lot of those guys I'd only take on minor league deals.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:15 AM) I'd love it if they'd throw Danks in the bullpen as the long man, but they won't do that. He was a solid back of the rotation starter though so I don't really mind if he's in the rotation. Maybe if he's doing good in June/July, we could deal him to a team that needs a starter.
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:10 AM) I don't think that a second. Sox have 4 lefties with one righty. They are basically trying to get what they were supposed to have this year is a righty in the number 2 spot that shark was to fill which didn't happen So you think they add a righty, keep Johnson, trade Q for a haul? Don't see them eating any money to move Danks so he should be locked into a spot.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:05 AM) Why would he go to the A's for anything else other than the money? They're going to be terrible. Like you said: money. Dude already has a ring from last season (I think he has 2 actually from time with Phils).
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:03 AM) Jerry Crasnick @jcrasnick 5m5 minutes ago Ryan Madson has agreed to a 3-yr, $22M deal with #Athletics pending physical, source says. Royals lose key piece in the bullpen. Looks like Oakland will have to shift some money cough cough Brett Lawrie cough cough
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:57 AM) Nashville? Winter Meetings are in Nashville
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) @MLBBruceLevine: White Sox right handed starter- Third baseman -middle infield help will be Nashville targets Really seems like they don't want to go with Erik Johnson.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:07 AM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 7m7 minutes ago #Nationals had been reluctant to give O’Day 4th yr -set definitive price point. #Orioles get him on 4-yr, $31M deal, as @JonHeymanCBS said. That's quite a bit for a set up guy. Reliever market about to pick up now. What did Miller get again 4/36? Not too much less than that per year.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:09 AM) Yep, and I bet it costs more than we think. Wouldn't be a shock to see a Lawrie for Erik Johnson swaps as A's looking for starting pitching. I'd take that swap.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 06:12 AM) @Buster_ESPN: Other teams say Oakland is devoted to the idea of trading Brett Lawrie. That should hurt his trade value right? Only way we would give up something significant is if we're not the the only team in on him.

QUOTE (BigFinn @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 09:05 PM) There are six competitive balance picks at the tail end of the first round and six more at the tail end of the second round. Here's an article explaining it. And here's another that shows where we are penciled in (10, 33, and 62 minus the draft picks other teams lose because of signing free agents). The #10 pick is set in concrete. The #33 pick could be in the high 20s.; the #62 pick could end up in the 50s — which would be cool. Additionally, we could trade for a competitive balance pick - say John Danks and Adam LaRoche to San Diego for James Shield and their competitive balance pick. Only the competitive balance picks can be traded. So competitive balance pick is after the compensation picks?
