What is the Sox fall back OF plan ?
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) Any other ideas for the Sox in the event they don't sign one of Upton/Heyward/Gordon? I'm still not willing to assume the Sox sign one of those three so I refuse to get my hopes up only to have them come crashing down. Sometimes s*** just happens. I'm up in the air on Parra. I like what he did while playing for the Brewers but his numbers pretty much sucked for the Orioles. Not sure what happened there. Fowler has nice pop in his bat but I don't like his defense or the comp pick attached to him. Jackson does absolutely nothing for me. After those three the only remaining option is to look into a trade. For whom and at what cost I do not know. I do know that there are plenty of options out there and it's a buyers market so the costs should be reasonable. Cespedes* And I'm not sure what they will do. Maybe Jackson who I still want if there is money leftover to platoon with LaRoche.

The next market inefficiency...2nd/3rd tier pitching
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 08:25 AM) I always love the "if he was platooned correctly" line. Ventura platooned Trayce Thompson early to perfection, yet when he platooned him, people complained. He needs to be playing every day. Especially with the way bullpens are used today, if you platoon and yank a guy early, you are going to have a match up later where someone will call the manager a fool for not using players correctly. It was a lot easier when they had 15 or 16 position players on the roster. Now that it is 13 or sometimes even 12, the idea of being able to platoon all over the place is hogwash, especially when starting pitchers are making shorter appearances. Yeah he platooned Trayce at first, the 3B position last season and Konerko/Dunn in 14. I don't see how he isn't doing a good job of platooning.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 06:44 PM) OK geez some of you guys... His "see you next year "comment doesn't mean he thinks what Nightengale said is contradictory . It means see you next year ,like in a few days is next year guys. They aren't close to signing anyone so give it a few more days.. next year, get it ? I don't think anyone is referring to that part. The first part where he says Nightengale predicts one of the big 3 to sign with Sox but that they aren't even close. And then goes "ok" like he's annoyed or saying whatever. And someone making a prediction and deals not even being close aren't related really. Like all he had to say was: "Nightengale says they aren't close on anyone. See you next year." But the part before it makes it seem like he's looking at it contradictory.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 06:36 PM) I just have a really hard time believing that the Sox won't do anything else now considering that they've already acquired Frazier and Lawrie. Those trades and meaningless and pointless if the Sox don't add anyone else. Why upgrade two positions when at least one more substantial upgrade is necessary to turn the team from a "wildcard hopeful" into a "legit contender". The bottom line, in my opinion, is that Hahn is not done making moves and something else will be done. Right now I'm just cautiously optimistic about this team. A bit skeptical. But adding another bat would really make me enthused.

Ah time to enjoy a good NYE and 4 day weekend.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) And in most cases, when a team is heavily involved like it sounds like the Sox are, if the agent of those OF's get close on a deal with another team, they are going to make a phone call to the Sox to see if they will match it. It's December 30th. We are all impatient, but let things unfold. Yeah it's not like Spring Training starts tomorrow. There's still a good amount of time left.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 05:47 PM) So Nightengale on MLB Network said he believes Sox land one, then he tweets not close to deal with anyone. Ok. See you next year folks. That's not contradicting...

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 05:43 PM) Yep, these guys are looking for another team to get involved. Right now, it's the White Sox, Orioles, and maybe another team or two (Angels? Giants?)...I'm sure there's another team involved that I miss, but the point being, there may not be enough interest at the current demands of these players. Where is Chris Davis in all this as well? Yeah it's not that they don't want to sign with the Sox. It's about money.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
You know how disappointing it's going to be if we don't get either 3 of the big 3? So much time potentially wasted following and refreshing the news to find out if the Sox are going to make a big move.

Dodgers sign Kazmir to 3 yr deal
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) Somebody is pissed: Brandon McCarthy @BMcCarthy32 5m5 minutes ago .@Dodgers This is blatant handism and I'm filing a hostile workplace grievance I forgot about him. Does he even have a spot in that rotation?

Dodgers sign Kazmir to 3 yr deal
Either way guys, to each their own. I like having that chance of not paying them for their declining years in the contract. The alternative being not having any chance at all.
-
Dodgers sign Kazmir to 3 yr deal
But in this scenario it's the Dodgers and their seemingly unlimited amount of money and they can absorb the hit of him picking up his option.

Dodgers sign Kazmir to 3 yr deal
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) Not trying to sound snobby, but why? I like it from a team's standpoint. You don't have to pay a guy in his possible declining years and not be tied up into bad money.

Dodgers sign Kazmir to 3 yr deal
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) $16 million a year for Scott Kazmir. OK then. Because Dodgers. It was bound to happen once Happ got what, 3/39?

Dodgers sign Kazmir to 3 yr deal
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 02:35 PM) So is the new era of the opt-out clause? As a fan, I like opt out clauses. But to each their own I guess.

Dodgers sign Kazmir to 3 yr deal
It just occurred to me that they will have what, 5 draft picks in the first 2 rounds?

Alex Gordon Thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) Hasn't Duensing been worse than Jennings the past couple of years? Replace guys with worse guys....because. That sounds like a great plan. The fascination some have with other teams' garbage has always intrigued me. Yeah I don't get it. Unless they mean as a minor league depth piece.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
I know he's not as good of an outfielder as Gordon, but he's got to be better than Melky and Avi.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 01:48 AM) If you're 100% satisfied with Jennings' performance...I guess. Yep...Definitely a guy who is replaceable.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) Do raBBit or bucket of suck have any new info that they're willing to share with the rest of us? I would think if they did they would have posted here already.

Yanks getting Chapman...
Don't know if the Yankees have announced this or not, but what if they decided to buy low on Chapman and sell high on Miller? Still have a dominant closer and get better prospects than you just gave up?

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 08:01 PM) I can see that, but they need a RH bench bat. If they really think that they can contend, which I assume they do, you can't go into the season and hand Laroche the bat against lefty pitchers. A guy like Austin Jackson can hit lefties pretty well and his D isn't bad. Agree I'd like Austin Jackson platooning with LaRoche.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 07:51 PM) That would move Melky to RF, which he has played very sparingly. Cespedes has never played right, and I seem to recall him causing a ruckus about his position when with Boston. I do like the idea of not moving Avi purely to platoon DH. If we get another outfielder, I prefer him getting at bats in Charlotte every day in anticipation of a possible LaRoche release if he is terrible the first few months.
