Are there any SP on any teams with a similarly bad deal we can swap 1-for-1 with? I'd feel better about taking a gamble on a SP to plug into a 5th SP spot to eat some innings during some bad seasons than playing Benintendi. Edit: Taijuan Walker and McCullers (granted, hasn't pitched since 2022, but opening up space on the 40-man every year could be a benefit haha) are a season short.

True but even then, it doesn't seem like that big a risk with what they gave up. Morel, a 26-year old MiLB pitcher and a 15th round draft pick pitcher from last year.

DeJong and Pham were dealt last year and didn’t really bring anything back. Pham brought back a 16- year old lotto ticket but Pham was better last year than this year.

True but the extra year of control would also be nice. But they also probably didn’t expect him to be in a position where he is one of the best trade chips this season.
