  1. This dude owes us a semi-team friendly deal (buying out arb years and at least one year of free agency) if this works out this year. Started his service time in the same year he was drafted and lost a year of control due to missing a whole season.
  2. I would have preferred this over a near MLB ready starting pitcher.
  3. Agreed. Only thing that kind of messes that up is if the game gets PPD to the next day. Then you are playing 13 games in a row with no off days.
  4. Realistically, how many innings can we expect from him this year? @ptatc?
  5. And that was like, 3 innings.
  6. We know Jerry wouldn't do it but teams that are rebuilding and are going to be bad with a lower payroll should take that kind of gamble to have someone to potentially trade at the deadline/offer a QO to next offseason. As of right now, they really don't have much to sell at the deadline. Banking on Fedde pitching well, Soroka staying healthy, and Flexen pitching like he did in in 2021 and 2022. They might be trade chips.
  7. Yeah and have another possible trade chip in the summer. They're going to need big league innings and there is value in that.
  8. Yeah it’s whatever at this point. Hopefully he can get to 100 innings this year but I honestly doubt he will come close to that.
  9. Makes sense: he’s barely pitched for us, majors or minors lol
  10. Yeah, I know what I prefer for them to do and I don’t have the energy to argue it. I’ve grown numb to their decision making honestly.
  11. No matter how good he pitches, I’m not sure he will get what he was looking for this year. He screwed himself.
  12. Yeah and you can ease him in better down there. Deeper pitching so you can skip him more often and manage his workload. You can evaluate if you want him to get MLB starts later.
  13. Dude has what, like 200 innings between college, minors, MLB last 7 years? I did the math last week but don’t remember.
  14. Nah get them in working in real game situations. Bullpen isn’t the same.
  15. Why? Let them get their work in. The end result of the game is meaningless.
  16. Opening Day bullpen day let’s gooooo
  17. Could think of one thing that may delay him but they don't really play the service time game.

Yeah, that's true too but I'm just saying teams usually can plan on it when there are days off. Not saying they have to anoint a 5th starter (as it seems you are alluding that I am), just saying that without a PPD, your first starter can't really go games 1 and 5. A postponement would make it possible to skip. But if you can't plan on it the first time through the rotation, you would need a bullpen game.

They don't need to commit to a 5th starter, but they would then need a bullpen game one of those first games. Example: Your second starter would pitch March 30th and then again April 3rd. That is 3 days rest. Normally, teams have 2-3 days off the first 2 weeks which makes it easy to skip a 5th starter. We don't have that luxury this year playing 12 games in a row after the first day off.

Only one day off the first 2 weeks (and it's that game). A 4-man rotation would put the Second/Third/Fourth/ starter on 3 days rest their second starts. Saying they don't need a 5th starter makes zero sense. No 5th starter to open the year = at least one bullpen game.

And do a bullpen game early on?
  22. I feel like Crochet has a solid chance.
  23. No way Kopech goes back to minors.
