2024 White Sox Opening Day thread 3/28 3:10 first pitch vs Detroit
The best part was the 3 hours of tailgating, which was longer than the actual game. Significantly.

Garrett Crochet named Opening Day starter
Yes lol Hoping that if everything goes well this year, he signs a team friendlyish extension since the Sox: 1) Started his service time the year he was drafted 2) Missed a full season due to surgery, as well as additional time missed 3) They let him build up as a starter at the MLB level

Was at the game. Turned out exactly as you’d expect.

26-man roster announced
Grossman is who I wanted in 2021 when they signed the shell of Adam Eaton

26-man roster announced
He has to be on the active roster at some point. 60-day IL all year doesn’t do that. But yes, him going on the IL at least for the start makes it easier. Figure it out later when other injuries happen.

Hmmmmm he's a glorified opener.

I was thinking of that earlier too. Like couldn't he start the first game of the season for Charlotte? He only needs to be in the minors for what, 10-11 days? Seems worth it to have just had Kopech make a start or two.

Going back to this, if they really are going with a 9-man pen for the first 5 games of the season (won't really need another starter until game 6 of the season), maybe we will get lucky with a rain out or two pushing the need back a couple weeks. We will see I guess.

I think they let him opt out (that was the date veterans could opt out and the article also said it’s not confirmed if he did or not) to see if he could get a better guarantee.

Was it confirmed to be league minimum? The only thing I can find about the amount (in the article on whitesox.com) was that it was less than the $3M agreement prior.

Play him! He had a good spring and deserves to play over the 37-year old, 2023 worst catcher.

Most of the decisions people are complaining about deserve the complaints. Not just “complaining about everything.” It’s a really, really dumb organization.

When you’re talking about a couple of week, I think it’s fine to leave him down. Plus, we’re not competing so there’s really no urgency to have him on the roster day 1.

Yeah, that would have been perfect. Give a few starts to Kopech and then hand the ball off to Nastrini.

Good call. I just tossed $20 on Mariners U87.5 Wins on DK.

White Sox sign Robbie Grossman to minors deal w/ invite to ML camp
So the bench would be: Stassi, Mendick, Pillar, Grossman?

ST Thread
Maybe they will do that. Go with an extra reliever the first 5 games, go Nastrini game 6.

You’re right, eventually they would have to extend a star player that is represented by Robert. But I feel like if you could try to extend Colson on a team friendly deal (that buys out a year or two of free agency), maybe next offseason, go for it.

No, the comment was that he’d rather extend Robert than Colson.
