He wasn't really a starter. I think he was just a platoon for the Dodgers, as they do that with a lot of spots in their lineups (moving guys around, playing guys against specific handedness, etc). I tend to agree though, he seems pointless unless he was a left-handed hitter who hit better against righties. But he does provide more versatility over Sheets/Burger.

I feel like in order to "retire" with the team, they should be required to be in one play.

Yes. And I love that they are changing up some of the story (keeps you guessing if you have played the games) without going too outside of it. The last episode advanced the story just as much as the story told in the game. Obviously, they have to be told somewhat differently as they are two different forms of entertainment.

I wouldn't be mad about giving him a 2 year deal (under the impression Clevinger does not throw a pitch) but the Sox don't have the budget space to sign him at that amount (or any amount really). Having more certainty for '24 wouldn't be bad either.
