It's not suggesting they get both haha one or the other. My point above was if you want to sign one to a $300m deal and he signs somewhere else, you should have interest in the other. Both would be great additions.
Only thing that sucks about front loading the deals is it gives the player more incentive to opt-out later since he could probably get more. And this deal will have opt outs.
There's no talk of the Indians rebuilding. You don't rebuild with 4 good starters and Lindor and Ramirez. That's a good start. They just need to re-tool a bit.
Making a few players available to gauge interest to try to improve other areas =/= rebuilding.
I definitely prefer Machado to Harper, but if Machado signs first, I definitely want Harper. Hell, like someone else said if they sign Harper, try to grab Donaldson on a high salary 1 year deal pillow deal.
Source? I just don't see why he wouldn't opt out if that were the case. He's 30 and could likely do better (maybe not as high of an AAV but could definitely get about 6 years I would think. Or at the very least, front load it the first 3 years since the luxury tax hit is the AAV anyway.
That's a guy I think the Indians should move to the pen. Their rotation would still be good (assuming no one is traded). Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer, Clevinger, Bieber.
Smyly is a decent gamble, especially for a team in need of pitching depth. His contract is similar to Eovaldi where he got 2 years even though he was going to miss the first year. Having a full off-season to work with, Rangers may be able to move him somewhere else. Who knows.
