So it safe to assume he's not on the roster at the start of the 2020 season? I'm sure they would want him to pitch in the minors more to find his groove than about the service time.
-
Players can't stay on the DL during the off-season. So he would have to be added back to the 40-man at the beginning of the off-season any way.
-
Yeah and they're losing him in a year they likely weren't going to compete.
-
The only few positives about the TJ surgery is the timing of it and the fact that it is NOT a death sentence on his career. I'm honestly not that shocked that he needs it looking at the trend of young hard throwing starters over the past 3-4 years.

Taking a hiatus at the end of the baseball season

I kinda feel the same. Once I first heard the Kopech news, I decided it's time to start turning my attention back to my other interests for a while. -
They probably would have discovered it a lot sooner than spring training considering he still would have been pitching in the minors (and more inning since 2 of his starts here were shortened by rain). The pain has been building up for who knows how long.
-
I figured the news about Kopech would have brought Greg back. Seriously, he hasn't posted since they started winning.
-
MLBPA would be pissed for sure.
-
I don't think teams normally do MRIs or medical reviews of players before calling them up.
-
Exactly.
-
I was going to say, it would probably happen quickly. He makes about the same amount of starts to finish the year at AAA hypothetically, goes through off-season regime and realizes his arm hurts.
-
Yeah they'll definitely have a veteran in there.
-
It would just be a foul ball.
-
I was going to say, he's great both ways.
-
It's no different than guys selling getting hit by pitches or OF trapping balls on diving plays (doesn't happen anymore due to replay though). This is something that someone should have been watching in the clubhouse and deciding that they should review.
-
What are the chances another ball would be right there haha

Let's just all be thankful they didn't hand him an extension after one good year. Thank God. -

Do people actually think Avi will get non-tendered? I don't see it personally (though I wouldn't be opposed to it). -
The Red Sox were also in a position to win where calling up those guys that season made sense. So they really aren't a good example of a team in the White Sox position.
-
You figure a 4-man bench would be a catcher (probably Narvaez), Sanchez (if they improve at 3B), Engel (if no one is signed and they let Cordell prove himself every day next year), and then you have an extra spot. Keeping all 3 into next season likely means Palka is the DH, Davidson as a backup 1B/3B and platoon DH, and Delmonico in LF (also assuming Garcia is here). Once Eloy comes up, they would have to decide who they would want here out of those 3. I would think Nicky would be the odd-man out. I do think they will shop all 3 and trade whichever one has the best offer.
-
Especially the fact he is left-handed. Guy definitely needs to DH to open next year. Delmonico can play LF (for like 2 weeks) until Eloy comes up and then he can move into a bench role spelling the corner IF spots and LF every once in a while.
-
And then the addition of Abreu and Leury after their DL stints...well maybe Leury.
-
They could always buy out his option and then re-sign him at the $14 mill as a work around. That way Hamels still gets his $20m. He's been pitching well enough and still just 34 so I think he can land 2-3 year deal with some NL team. Maybe the Phillies look into bringing him back.

Vlad is 19 with less than what, 2 years of pro ball experience? Plus, isn't he a bad defender at 3B? Plenty of reasons to keep him down.
