  1. They already tried negotiating an extension with him. I'm sure it would've only been for the next 7 years and he would have been up this season. I have a feeling he wants to go season to season in arb years. Something tells me this is part of why they are keeping him down. Gotta get all 7 years out of him.
  2. haha I knew what you meant. Like a brief call up to evaluate what they have in him before needing to trim fat in the off-season.
  3. How many days into the season does it have to be, 11 days is it? I thought that's what it was for Bryant. I remember telling my Cubs fans friends that out of the 11 days, they only had 9 games that Bryant would miss. And one was actually PPD so they only missed him the first 8 games I think it was. I do think they waited a few more days and they didn't call him up right after.
  4. I guess they figured his value to the young pitchers outweighed what they would receive in a trade which wouldn't have been much.
  5. Then I have no issue with what they are doing. They tried. Plan on milking him for the 7 years and hope he changes his tune at some point about extending.
  6. Sign him to a one year pillow deal after their plan to talk Machado into taking less money than the most offered fails.
  7. Personally, I probably don't reward him with a call-up. And they should have plenty of guys in the pen already that will need a look.
  8. I think the minor league seasons ends on Labor Day so a couple guys will come up this weekend. A lot of the guys coming up will be up Tuesday.
  9. Again, how did this guy get through the AL? You think a team would claim in hope that the Sox would just let him go or pay a very small price on him (as the Brewers did). Especially with rosters expanding tomorrow.
  10. Yes, because no other player has ever said that and stayed with that team his entire career...
  11. They should throw a 7-year deal in his lap now and see if he bites. Have him finish the year off in Chicago this year, pay him a little over the minimum the next 3 years (the years he would get the minimum, and then buy out his 4 would-be arb years if he were to stay down until next year. Seems like that would be fair for him. He comes up this year and he has guaranteed money and we get him for the extra year of control. If he were to reject a deal, then he would have no argument for not being here this year. The Sox are doing nothing wrong by waiting. They are operating within the rules like every other team.
  12. He meant Cano and Pujols had already won a world series. Meaning that going to a team to experience a world series wasn't as big of a priority as guys who have never won it.
  13. He can still be traded in September. He just wouldn't be able to be added to a post-season roster. Not sure you want Shields on a post-season roster. He's definitely more of a pickup to help eat innings until you get to that point.
  14. It's not his last game lol so go to the stadium.
  15. Part of the business side. Oh well. Hes still young enough to the point where he will make a fuckload of money.
  16. I bet Donaldson resigns with the Jay's on a one year deal.
  17. If they are going to go that route, wouldn't they just re-sign Shields after his option is declined?
  18. I don't think it was implied that they would try to land both. Just that they try for both in hopes of landing one at any cost. Example: stay in talks with each. If Harper signs somewhere else first, go harder after Machado and vice versa.
  19. I have Machado pegged for the Yankees to play 3B and the Yanks dealing Andujar in a package for pitching. Long-term, no they wouldn't be able to keep all of Judge, Stanton, Machado but for controllable years of Judge I don't think they would be worried. Yes, Judge will get expensive but just like the Dodgers, they are resetting their luxury tax penalties this season so they likely plan on going over for at least a few years again.
  20. I would expect them on the team next year. Now 2020 I doubt. Unless they sign some high leverage guys this offseason (not sure I see them doing that yet).
  21. Without the injury, it probably would have happened this year. Regarding the borderline 40-man guys, the Sox probably try to move some for PTBNL or cash considerations.
