  1. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 08:58 AM) I think Jennings will stay with the Sox for the time being. The market is flooded with relievers and Jennings is not having a terrific season or anything. He would not bring back much in a trade right now. Agreed.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 08:55 AM) Yep, still shocked that he had any value. He's basically performed WAY over his head, is a rental and is really more of a middle reliever than a set up guy or closer. Pretty amazing. Oh and he's 31. I literally said when they signed him: "they just need guys to eat inning at the MLB level and that's it. Minor league deal so it doesn't hurt." So yeah, I'll take this. Time to start looking at other relievers we can sign for cheap to help fill innings for next year.
  3. Running out of guys to trade. Have this guy under control through 2019. Might be better off holding onto him until next deadline. He is doing good against lefties this year however.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 08:45 AM) Rentals seem to have no value. The Giants got very little for Nunez. Yeah the infield market and reliever market was/is pretty flush.
  5. They get an MLB ready bat to stick in the order when he is healthy/Melky gets dealt. Good get for 2 months of a guy having a career year. Can't say I expected that. Holding onto Swarzak would have been pointless. I would have no problem with them re-signing him, even if it has to be multiple years.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 08:01 AM) Some scouts do seem to love this guy, but tfor me, there was caution even before I had known he was out a month with a back issue. Right now, it's a blah trade. In a year or two, maybe he's really good. I just wouldn't count on it. The only thing is, if Hahn is pulling the trigger, either other teams aren't offering much or the White Sox really like this guy. Probably more this. I bet at least 6 more relievers go between now and deadline.
  7. We get a bat who can plug into an OF spot immediately when he is healthy and when Melky and possibly Garcia are moved. We don't have many bats in the system that are close or ready for another 2-3 years so he gets an opportunity to prove himself during that time.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 07:41 AM) You missed the s***show, sorry. Saw the one tweet about a scout saying we'd get a prospect outside of top 150 (if that's what you're defining as vast majority) and they did exactly that. No top 150 prospect.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 11:09 PM) I called people sheep for accusing me of being an idiot for wanting a player better than Ryan Cordell, when that was nowhere near what the vast majority was speculating prior to the deal occurring. Just because Rick Hahn made the trade doesn't suddenly mean we all have to think it's wonderful, does it? And yet that is what is expected here. See the difference? Vast majority of...posters on this board who aren't scouts or gms? Only thing we all know (except you apparently) is that it is a buyer's market.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 10:34 PM) There is something called groupthink that happens, and it absolutely happens here. Compare the threads discussing what we think should be the returns for players, and then compare the actual returns for players. The difference is ridiculous. Yeah...that just means we were shooting to high. Whats your point? We're not gms or scouts who can evaluate trade value.
  11. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 10:16 PM) For 48 innings. At 31 years of age. Coming off a season where he posted a 5.52 ERA. Who registered his first career save this week. Who is a FA at the end of the season. He just isn't a valuable investment to make for a team. Do you think Hahn passed up a package that was better? Do you think he could have negotiated a better deal with another team? Easy to say "Hahn should have gotten more!" without actually knowing what was offered.
  12. He's having a great year, but there were factors working against the Sox dealing Swarzak: other relievers still on market, the fact he is a rental, and no track record.
  13. Looking like Gray and Alonso are going to Oak. Not official yet.
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) I wouldn't object to keeping Melky around. When Abreu DH's, Melky plays LF and when Melky DH's Abreu can play 1B. Most of the Sox best hitting talent is a few years away anyway so Melky wouldn't be blocking any young talent. I got nothing against the Melkmeister. I'm good trading him for whatever and then bringimg him back.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 04:25 PM) Something that is ridiculous is the media will focus on Hawk's rant after the game instead of Lackey hitting more people than Addison Russell Was Lackey hitting guys intentionally? Why does this always have to be the case? Can't it be that a guy just sucks and hit 4 guys? What did he even say?
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 07:43 AM) I dunno, they still have Hicks too, who was having a big year before injuring his oblique. Ah, I forgot about Hicks. He's been good for them. Probably allows them to play Ellsbury in LF if they want to move Gardner off the field or trade him.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 07:20 AM) See, I think someone will give him an everyday shot, but will be skeptical to go multiple years with him. Two years is a possibility I guess, but would probably have to be an AL team that could move to DH in 2019 if necessary. I think he could make sense for a team like the Yankees next season. They can probably get him on a one year deal. They would have Gardner in LF (he could be traded and it could be Frazier however), Ellsbury in CF, Judge in RF and they could DH Melky and give him occasional starts in the OF.
  18. I like Melky and all, but I don't see him getting a 3 year deal worth $12-14 mill/year. If he is that valuable, a team would have jumped on him by now. I think he gets a year deal with an option from someone (I wouldn't mind it being the Sox as he could DH and play LF occasionally).
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 04:11 PM) Bunting for a hit. Nicely done. The only bunt I can accept. Only from guys who can do it consistently.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) Why are these kind of troll posts acceptable when mine aren't? A post like this is worth nothing except to make me so mad that I want to respond. But I won't take the bait this time. We get it. You want us to lose every game. I want to win every game, so there's a difference of opinion. That's all. p.s. You didn't need Clippard's contract to lose. There are plenty of stiffs in the minors you could bring up to accomplish the same thing as Clippard BTW. Plenty of bodies who will lose you games on the cheap. But you did by responding...
  21. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 11:41 AM) This is not allowed. I think it's fine. Younger, I probably would have agreed but now I say f*ck it. I have too much other s*** in my life to worry about someone liking both teams. Like what you want to like. It really only matters 4/6 games a season.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 11:35 AM) Week day afternoon games suck. Yeah especially this one since it isn't a travel day.
  23. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) FWIW--Heard on a Boston Sports Show that it would be very unlikely Stanton would be dealt since he is the key asset if the ownership is going to sell. They should probably just figure out what potential new owners would want. Could see new owners wanting him moved so his giant contract is off the books along with getting a couple decent prospects.
