  1. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 11:39 AM) Woah. Haha it needs to be capitalized and spelled out for their GM. This guy COULD help us out next year. Well guess what: Q will help you out. I wasn't mad that they aren't willing to include him in the deal. More mad at the logic.
  2. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) That's laughable If Martes is off the table I'm not even answering the phone again if I am Rick Hahn Scraps are not landing Quintana...a king's random is Lol it'll be like those mtimes in relationships when your gf is mad at you and won't answer your calls so you gotta text to try to make up (only in this scenario, Houston would text they are ready to give into demands haha).
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) Baseball AmericaVerified account ‏@BaseballAmerica The @astros are reluctant to part with Francis Martes, knowing the righty could debut in 2017, @jakemkaplan writes. http://bba.am/Cmgzxy Houston can go f*** off They would get Quintana WHO WOULD BE HELPING THEM FROM OPENING DAY!!!! There's no could or maybe or if. This is so annoying haha
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) I don't think the Yankees really believe they have a competitive lineup and roster and I'm not sure they're wrong. They want to see if Sanchez can repeat his MVP like performance and what other pieces fall into place. If those things happen then the Yankees will be more willing to open up. The situation they want to avoid is trading away Torres + a ton of other stuff and then having Sanchez hit an opening season slump, which is possible for any young player, and then have to trade away guys at the deadline when they could have just held these guys in the first place. Agreed. This is a "let the kids play and see what they can do and see who we can move forward with" year for them.
  5. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) No it doesn't. Sox still have some space under this years limit and can trade for more. With the Sox facing a 40 man roster crunch when Q is traded, they could move some guys off to get additional international slots for the current signing period. We could but I don't see why a team that is already over (like the Padres) wouldn't just continue to spend.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) I guess they could buy Arrieta or Cueto next off season. But at the same time, Tanaka, Sabathia and Pineda will all be FAs as well, so there will be multiple holes to fill. I think Tanaka gets dealt in June/July for prospects (if he is healthy and doing good) and then they try to bring him back next off-season.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 09:06 AM) I don't understand this stance. What is the Yankees gameplan? They just signed old Matt Holliday to a one-year deal to DH, and dumped $86 million into a closer. Why would a rebuilding team do that? Plus, the thing with the Yankees is they can essentially buy anyone they want at any time in FA. Encarnacion, Harper, Machado, McCutchen, Donaldson... they can have their pick of any of them when they become available. The one thing that almost never becomes available is a top starter like Quintana. Wouldn't it be worth it for them to pay in terms of prospects like Frazier/Torres for Quintana, then just dump money on whatever hitter they want when the time is right? They dumped that money on Chapman because they plan on being good at some point again at some point in those 5 years. Holiday is a potential sign-and-flip in July. Age doesn't matter for a 2-month rental if he is producing (Beltran for example). They're not really rebuilding in the sense that they are going to tear it all down over a 3+ year span. Next off-season, they can spend on 2 starters keeping all their young talent.
  8. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 09:02 AM) LOL I was sitting here laughing at my desk thinking about, again, how I could never be a GM for many obvious reasons but especially because at this point I would be like f*** YOU to all the other GM's and tell them they arent getting anything from me. No patience from me at all. Lol agreed. He is going to be talking to other GMs every day from now until he is traded (exclude holiday seasons) which could be July 31, 2017 or January 10, 2018. I wouldn't be able to do that.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 08:07 AM) That's a good deal from the Pirates end though. The problem we have with that deal is it's so pitching heavy. Glasnow is a top 10 prospect in baseball. Newman is somewhere in 35-50 range. Keller is rising and will most likely be top 50. That's 3 top 50 guys for Q. That's a lot of s***. It's just not the package packed with position players that we are expecting. If they added KeBryan Hayes or another high upside type and possibly their Competitive Balance pick then that's a fair deal. Not sure I'd be super excited because of the lack of position players but Glasnow/Newman/Keller trumps anything the Astros can do. I would like this to be a final piece (but more like a 5th piece).
  10. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 08:51 AM) You would do this after having traded Sale and Eaton? Along with punting our first round pick to sign Bautista.
  11. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 06:19 AM) Today is the day everyone. Get ready Hopefully we don't see tweets or anything until at least 3 o clock. I need to be productive lol
  12. This basically confirms what we are all thinking: Pirates have an offer out but Sox want Meadows.
  13. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 05:39 AM) Can anyone explain to me how Kevin Maitan who some claim to be a "Once in a Generation Talent" signed for 4.25 million while Moncada signed for 31.5 million the year before? Furthermore, highly hyped Cuban prospects such as Yadier Alvarez signed for (16 million) and Lazarito (3 Million) I would be very surprised to see Luis Robert sign for over 3 million due to the fact that I assume teams have already spent a good portion of there allocated money for international free agents. I may be in the minority and having no inside information I could certainly be horribly off base, but my initial observation is that the White Sox can offer a competitive amount of money without going over the spending limit and incurring penalties. Teams that are over their cap and will be penalized the next 2 years can still sign him if he is cleared before next signing period so he could still do very well.
  14. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 01:46 AM) Would be a huge pickup! Having Moncada and Abreu hopefully gives us an edge. Would have to be next signing period.
  15. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 06:16 PM) I definitely feel like Matt has earned it at this point. I also feel Bernstein is so difficult to mesh with, it might be worth just moving Matt over now. Unless they move Rozner to a permanent basis, which I would kind of dislike. I don't dislike Rozner, but the golf talk is awful. Agreed. He's a fine filler but that's about it. And Matt has earned it for sure.
  16. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 06:07 PM) I can't imagine anyone wanting to play 81 games a year in that stadium...and yet, it's still Florida. May not have been his choice if there wasn't any other suitors.
  17. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 05:30 PM) I lol'd. Really good stuff. I'm just not sure I'm ready for Mike North on a day to day basis and I can't imagine him working with Bernstein. I would expect Matt Abbatacola to be the guy. I like listening to Bernstein and Abbatacola to be honest. Boers was lame and just kind of agreednwith everything Dan says. Abbatacola at least push back if he doesn't agree.
  18. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) He only pitched 65 innings last year. It's going to take him at least 2 to build up the innings to be a full time starter. Actually, 65 innings was in 2015. He only threw about 56 last season (2016). So yeah not very close at all. 2+ at best.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 04:14 PM) Mind me asking what the blip last night was? I think it was the Pirates blogger tweeting out that Rick Hahn went back to the Pirates to discuss an offer or something.
  20. It doesn't even make sense that they would want a left handed hitting OF when they've got Smith and Kim at the corners (unless they want one that can share DH at bats). I think they have Rickard platooning with Kim but Smith is also more of a platoon guy so he could really use a platoon partner. They way they operate, they will totally sign one of Crisp, Jackson, Francour, Raburn or Stubbs...and they'll somehow hit 30 homers out of said platoon lol
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 04:13 PM) So basically the article is showalter saying they want another LH hitter but then the reporter showing how terrible they were vs LH pitching  But either way Melky is a switch hitter, does not strike out much (which showalter mentiones) and is a terrible fit in basically every other way. lol after I replied to you I decided to check out the article and was like wtf.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) His lefty stats aren't bad either. .289/.344/.789 Not world beating, but useful. I get that but was curious. He's definitely a good get for someone.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) Ridiculous idea that for money reasons isn't a fit at all...on the other hand: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles...0109-story.html "Orioles manager Buck Showalter still seeking another left-handed bat in outfield" Melky vs LH .322 .352 .496 .847 I'm confused. If it says they are seeking another left-handed bat, why are you showing his stats vs Left handed pitching?
  24. God this thread needs a rumor/tweet whatever.
  25. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 01:31 PM) Can we stop for a second to acknowledge this: The Yankees acquired Frazier for 2.5 years of a relief pitcher, and Torres for half a season of a relief pitcher. First of all, what an extraordinary strike of good fortune. Second, how strange that, a few months later, both seem off the table for four years of a starting pitcher!! Yes, the Indians/Cubs and Yankees were in different situations, but still. Should be able to give some better perspective on Quintana's trade value and market. Goes to show you how in it the Yankees are. I don't think they are involved as much as others on here seem to think. If I were Yankees, I'd try to sign some stop gap types and look to flip veterans (like Tanaka if healthy and good) at the deadline while allowing the kids time in the MLB to develop more. Then go add 2 SP next off-season (maybe go after Tanaka again since there won't be compensation on him) and keep all the young talent you've horded for the 1.5 years.
