QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 08:21 AM) Am I the only one who really really does not want a package centered around Glasnow? Depends on what the rest of the package looks like.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 08:04 AM) FWIW, the Pirates are looking to extend Jordy Mercer. This is pretty odd given that he's not very good, has two years of control left, and the Pirates have a high-end prospect who should be ready to take over at SS when Mercer's contract ends. Some speculation by rumbunter that such a move would allow them to include Newman in a Quintana trade. With recent reports that the Pirates are now holding onto McCutchen, I'm keeping hopes alive for a Quintana for Meadows, Newman, + deal. God I hope so. How good is Mercer's defense? They must like him enough to play him every day and bat him 8th.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 12:44 AM) If the Sox were able to get both Glasnow and Keller, they'd be so stacked with pitching that I'd hope they'd flip a couple to Colorado for Brendan Rodgers. Not sure the Rockies would. And any team with pitching prospect depth (Pit to name one) could just trade for Rodgers if they wanted to.

Dodgers close to signing Jose Fernandez to minor league deal. Moving on from Dozier? Also, didn't realize he was still out there. -
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 12:25 PM) I don't think they are interested in re-signing Arrieta, but that's just my gut. It won't be for lack of money though, they are already swimming in it and these ticket hikes aren't going to dampen demand one bit. Agreed. They may let Arrieta walk and sign one of the arms available next off-season instead

Cubs aren't in a position where they need to deal their top prospects.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 07:36 AM) I normally don't object to minor league deals, but this is a bad player, bad actor, getting older, who plays positions you have plenty of mediocreish guys you can look at instead. I would imagine this is a Rick Renteria deal from his SD days. Agreed. This guy is probably the backup MI for Charlotte and even then that seems a stretch. I'd be shocked if he's with the organization past Spring Training.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 11:10 PM) It means next to nothing. Cabrera may not even get out of spring training. This. It seems like we have too much middle infield depth. Doubt everyone stays past Spring Training (minor league signings that is).

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 08:57 PM) So, is this thing any closer to a resolution or is this dragging on until ST? Doesn't appear any closer to resolution. No idea when it will drag out until.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) Houston will improve their rotation. It really doesn't hurt you in the standings ifyou get the pitcher at the Winter Meetings or a day before the season starts. I honestly think its plausible they open with their current rotation and add in June/July if they need to.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 09:31 AM) Beware of tweets that say "team X" are the frontrunners in a trade. Beware of tweets from Jon Morosi, who needs to spew verbal diarrhea on MLB Network for 10 minutes. It's all horses*** until it's actually done. This. Most of the time they need to fill time on TV or they have to write an article about something.

QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 09:26 AM) Is there any chance Reed sticks at C? Since Reed has never caught before, I'm going to go ahead and say no.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 08:22 AM) I really think a deal happens with the Astros pretty soon. I'm going to predict a Martes, Tucker, Reed, & Laureano package. That may feel light to some, but Reed was a top 30 prospect just 12 months ago and Laureano appears to be criminally underrated. Short of the Pirates offering Meadows, I think I take that deal, although I'm pretty high on Tucker. I hope.
-
QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 08:27 AM) I am not enamored with the Astros prospects. My hope is that Hahn holds out for one of the Yankees elite prospects. Don't think the Yankees are going to move their elite prospects imo.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 08:06 AM) McCann and Gattis are going to catch more than you think...they have to. They let Castro walk and Max Stassi is their only other C and he can't hit a lick. C- McCann/Gattis 1B- Gurriel/McCann 2b- Altuve SS- Correa 3B- Bregman LF- Beltran/Gattis/Aoki CF- Springer RF- Reddick DH- Beltran/McCann/Gattis Gattis and Aoki are not going to keep Alex Bregman from playing. Bregman could even see a decent amount of time in LF while also filling in at SS and 2B when needed. That team has a lot of depth. Is it a guarntee that Springer is going to play center?

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 06:25 PM) Via Sean Sears on Twitter : "The #Astros are willing to part with Tucker, Martes, and Paulino for #Sox Jose Quintana, per source" Based on comments and tweets following, it looks like he has no idea.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 06:21 PM) I usually try not to bash many sites or people for their sources or lack of but Sports Mockery is legit trash when it comes to this stuff. It did come from one of their own so yeah I wouldn't put much stock in it. Unless the guy has legit sources like WSD. Their articles feel more like click bait though.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 04:18 PM) Orrrr Dan Hayes' reporting is right and they're doing it for 40-man-related reasons. Soto is making the roster bar him literally dying. It's the Rollins deal all over again. Or Soto the first time...that was also basically a guarantee minor league deal. But yes it is a 40-man roster issue. Doesn't mean a trade is imminent though. Just a work around to keep everyone who is already on the 40-man roster here without having to risk losing them to the waiver wire.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) He's like 5'10 a buck seventy. Not tiny, but pretty small I don't see what's wrong with that. If he can throw guys out, he can be a guy who can move quick behind the plate.
-
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) It's a minor-league deal with $2m guaranteed on making the roster and a further year's option. It's a major-league deal in all but name. If he is dreadful and 2 other catchers look good in Spring Training or he has a serious injury where he will miss significant time, he won't make the roster
-
This isn't really new news lol we knew they were talking to the Astros already. And teams usually seem to sign guys to minor league deals with basically a guarantee to make the team out of Spring Training to not have to create the roster space at that time. They're already at 40 so it's not like the space is open for Soto to just walk on. The guy who would likely be dfa'd for space got dfa'd for a younger OF.
-
QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 03:38 PM) Take it easy. I dont think this is imminent. LOL Lol I was going to say the same thing. It means it could happen now or before Spring Training. Or not at all even.
-
See this is the time of day where these rumors and possible deals need to gain steam. Right at the tail end of the work day(/week). The Eaton deal worked out perfect for me. The Sale deal , which happened before noon ruined my productivity lol
-
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 03:35 PM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes now Heard one reason #WhiteSox didn't yet add Geovany Soto to 40-man was to leave space for a possible trade. Makes sense w/ Quintana rumor. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm And trading Q would take a guy off the 40 as well.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) Yeah, I don't get it. If Merk guesses no Tucker, I'd have to assume Bregman or Springer is in the deal. Maybe even Frazier going to Houston too. Man I would be disappointed if Springer was the headliner in a deal. He's a good player but not the kind this team needs right now.
