A giant, "can't miss" LT should be added to that list. And I'd rank it above Shut Down Corner, simply because even a shot down corner is still somewhat reliant on a pass rush. I don't care how good a CB may be, you give a QB 4 seconds in the pocket, that CB doesn't have much of a chance. But I generally agree with the list. No team has ever said "We have too many good pash rushers on the team"

Doesn’t tell the whole story, but simply looked at the last 10 years in the NFL and the 5 teams that had the five highest winning percentages. Was the Chiefs, Steelers, Bills, Ravens and Packers. Then looked at what they did in the first round over the last 10 years. Chiefs (CB-QB-RB-CB-DE-DE-WR) Steelers (LB-CB-LB-S-LB-RB-QB-OL-OL) Bills (DE-CB-QB-LB-DT-DE-CB-TE) Packers (S-DT-CB-DE-S-QB-CB-LB-DE-DE-OT) Ravens (WR-OT-CB-TE-QB-WR-LB-WR-LB-CB-C-WR-CB) Out of 48 selections by the 5 best teams in football the last year, 2 were RB. The two RB’s taken were Clyde Edwards-Helarie and Najee Harris, both picks I suspect the teams might want back in a re-draft. Harris was good his rookie year but pretty pedestrian the last few seasons.

I do too. And will be interesting to see that contract, at his age the length can't get crazy, and you're paying for his past production not what you project, so could get a little dicey...but I agree that the odds heavily favor him not just being here for 2025. If he is, it wasn't the best use of a 4th round pick any way you slice it

They had 8 captains last year and none of them were on the O-Line. It's the most important "unit" in football and it needed a massive upgrade. They have taken steps to do that, and free agency and the draft aren't here yet. Let's see what it looks like in July, but I think they've done some good work thus far.- 24-25 NFL Thread
I'll use a slightly more recent example in John Tait. He came in at 29, so slightly different, but came from the Chiefs, and was a very welcome addition and played well in his 5 years here- 24-25 NFL Thread
I'm on the Ben Johnson train but I'll jump off quickly if they use the 10th overall on a RB. Just because Gibbs "worked out" doesn't mean it was the right selection, even then. Just can't get on board with it. And they could take him, and it could all work out, and I'll be happy the Bears are winning. But philosophically, it's still the wrong pick at 10.- 24-25 NFL Thread
Given the state of the OL last season, and the new staff being brought in that will hopefully lead to a large culture shift…it’s a welcome addition.- 24-25 NFL Thread
You sure about that? They have been to 3 straight SB’s, just franchised Trey Smith…there is only so much to go around. I would bet a fair share of money the player replacing Thuney in KC doesn’t get named an All-Pro. Want to make that bet?- 24-25 NFL Thread
Please for the love of god, don’t think your OL is now set and you’re able to draft Jeanty at 10. Please don’t be that stupid.- 24-25 NFL Thread
He was an All-Pro and Pro Bowler…in 2024. Lol- Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
I just read the last few pages, and while that was clearly a mistake in hindsight, here we are. This is the correct take. It’s not about last season, it’s about being a White Sox fan holistically right now. From the end of 2022 to now, my interest level in the team has been at all-time lows, and by a huge margin. I’ve come to the realization the thing I’m mad at the most is the idea that incompetence by others has robbed me of a lot of personal enjoyment in my life. I like caring about my favorite baseball team. I like being able to throw on a game on a random weeknight and having something entertaining to watch. I like day dreaming about “what could be” and penciling in projected lineups two years down the road, or the adrenaline hit you get when your team makes that big trade or signing. We’ve been robbed off all of that for the last three years basically, and it’s not like the Sox had this long run of success before that. The way I look at it, from an ownership perspective, it can’t get worse. It could stay the same, and that would suck, but the bar is so incredibly low, I just can’t fathom how it could truly be “worse” than this- Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
No one at 35th & Shields has any sort of grasp on how much excitement would be injected into the veins of Sox fans with the news Jerry won't be owning the team anymore. It will be a glorious day, whenever that comes.- Michael A. Taylor Signed
I didn’t read the article as it was behind a paywall and I’m not giving any money, even a few dollars towards anything related to the Sox…but did the article get into the actual budget? Because you mention something important. The Sox may be operating with the same budget for “resources” but Getz simply invested that budget to other areas. Put more money into tech, but the scouting budget was gutted, as an example. Not saying 1. That’s the case or 2. The investment Getz is making isn’t the smart move, but I’d like to understand the picture better, because all these quotes came directly from the Sox, and you can say “We invested in ABC..” but not mention it came at the cost of XYZ.- Sox Spring Training notes
I fear what I'm about to say is going to turn into another huge debate with some incredibly silly back and forth, but I guess we'll find out. When talking about the extensions around those three, I would hope there was a discussion at some point about the makeup of each player, and how they would "respond" to generational wealth before having really any ML experience to speak of. Each player is undoubtably different, but they do all share the unfortunate trait of appearing on the DL far more than the average player, and many of those appearances seemed to be related to muscle strains, pulls and soreness. I think it's fair to question some of the time missed by all three players, and wonder if it looks different if these guys are all playing for their first contract extension at the MLB level.- Michael A. Not sure what is so hard to understand. The original reason this conversation even started was someone asking if other media members are reporting on this, which calls into question the accuracy of Fegan's report. As I said, in the post YOU quoted, we should believe what Fegan wrote as accurate information. They did make these investments, the things he reported on have happened. That is DIFFERENT than believing the investments that have been made will make an impact in wins and losses for the Sox. That is a totally different debate, and ones I have serious doubts about. But the information Fegan provided shouldn't be considered incorrect or not based on fact, simply because of his reputation at this point. He's a good reporter, I'm taking him at his word. We're not talking about his opinion.- Michael A. Taylor Signed
It’s stupid at this point to be having a debate if we should take Fegan at his word, that really shouldn’t be a question at this point. He wrote a story with direct access to the team and provided fans with an update at what the FO is doing. There is a difference between believing what Fegan wrote and believing it’s going to work.- Michael A. Taylor Signed
I guess I'm just going to repeat myself, but while those are all positives, and I'm glad Getz is taking those steps...But as a fan of the White Sox and Major League Baseball, I'm not going to be overly excited for my favorite team simply "catching up" to the rest of the league. We're celebrating something that should have been done decades ago. I'm not going to lower my expectations or hold the White Sox to a lesser standard because THEY are the ones responsible for trying to lower the bar so low.- Michael A. Taylor Signed
1. It's a behind a paywall, I'm not a patreon member to Sox Machine. 2. Does it mention signing a 300 million dollar player? Because if it doesn't, that also goes into the proper resource allocation.- Michael A. Taylor Signed
I think most people that follow the Sox closely are aware Getz has been making hires and doing things behind the scenes that have advanced the Sox out of 2002. Good. I also don’t give my kids extra credit for not doing drugs. Once again, it’s not that I don’t want to give Getz a fair shake. He should absolutely not have been given the role he was given based on past performance, and it was another lazy hire in the long line of lazy hires by the Reinsdorf family. I want Getz to be successful, I just have serious doubts he will be, because Jerry Reinsdorf is very bad at this. Additionally, I don’t believe Jerry will give Getz, or any GM, the proper resources to truly be “successful” against the rest of Major League Baseball.- Sox Spring Training notes
Also should be noted there was absolutely zero projected lineup protection for him in 2024, and certainly won’t have any in 2025- Sox Spring Training notes
I want my GM’s working with conviction. I always cite Ryan Pace trading for Trubisky. Terrible scouting, that move alone got him fired and it was deserved…BUT to this day I can appreciate a GM saying “We have identified the player we want to change our franchise and we’re going to get him, I’m staking my reputation on this, we’re taking a big swing.” When you’re caught in-between, very little good comes from that. Big swings cause large highs and lows, but as a fan I’m craving the highs, and you’re aren’t getting those highs by being cautious and hoping for the best. - 24-25 NFL Thread
