  1. Domingo Santana would be great, he had a great season last year and is controlled through 2022.
  2. Yolmer for Brinson.
  3. Shields just because of seniority. That's it.
  4. Can someone please explain to me why it seems like so many people dislike this trade? In essence, the Sox traded a superfluous middle infielder for two relievers. One of which is lefty and is pretty good and the other is only a short term piece. The Sox have the payroll flexibility to absorb Soria's contract and the Sox got a bit of money back in the deal anyway. Relief pitching was a massive need and Hahn killed two birds with one stone. Am I missing something?
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 7, 2018 -> 10:22 PM) Lots of good players don't live up to their expectations their first full season. Lots of players take their lumps and the league adjusts. It happens. I know but I don't see any scenario in which the Sox are worse than last year.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2018 -> 07:44 PM) Not really, no. Can you explain? I fail to see how the Sox would be so bad unless the young guys regressed and/or didn't live up to their expectations.
  7. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 7, 2018 -> 07:09 PM) And a bullpen featuring....no one. I understand what you're trying to say, but there are a ton of variables at play when it comes to overall record. Of course. I just don't think they'll be that bad.
  8. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Jan 7, 2018 -> 06:37 PM) Actually the young guys need to improve a lot to even repeat last years result. -no half season of quintana -no kahle and Robertson -no todd frazier (wasn't great but at least like league average) -abreu is a year older and might regress a little -avi is due to some regression as he had a huge babip (fangraphs projects him for 2 wins less than last season) That is at least 7-8 wins going away. Will the young guys make up for all of that especially when eloy and kopech likely won't be up at least until august or so? On the flip side, the Sox will have full seasons from Moncada, Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, Delmonico, etc. My point is that if the Sox are so bad to the extent that they get another top 5 pick, 2018 will be a horrible failure.
  9. This would be so amazing. I'm not holding my breath at all but imagine if the Sox got him, made him the closer, and he thrived? He's controllable through 2021 so his value would be through the roof.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2018 -> 12:53 PM) This team will have a top 5 pick this year. If that happens, it'd be safe to assume that the majority of the young players struggled really badly. It won't happen.
  11. Can't believe you guys are spending all this time arguing about Joakim Soria. Lol.
  12. I would do Avi for Salazar straight up in a heartbeat. I'd drive Avi to O'Hare myself if that was offered.
  13. If anyone can get the most out of current day Joakim Soria, it is Don Cooper.
  14. 2 bullpen pieces. Can't complain. It was an area the Sox had to fill anyway.
  15. Avilan's stats are actually not too bad for what it's worth.
  16. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 04:00 PM) "The final package could look like this: Giolito (or Anderson), Cease, Rutherford and Collins." I would not be in favor of surrendering that much talent, even though Yelich is very good. I do not think the Marlins asking price would be nearly that high, and guys like Rutherford/Collins still have enough stock to warrant being much better than 3rd and 4th pieces in a deal like that. Even taking a pessimistic view of those players would result in us dealing 6+ seasons of a #3/4 starter, reliever in Cease, 4th outfielder in Rutherford and a C/1B prospect with on base skills and some pop. That would be way too much. No thanks. I think the Sox would be better off re-visiting this idea next offseason if the price is that high.
  17. If it's a 1 year contract in which the Sox think they can flip him at the deadline for more than the equivalent of a draft pick in which they'd be forefeiting to sign him in the first place, I can somewhat understand it. Otherwise it makes no sense to me and I'd rather wait and try to get Machado.
  18. Moustakas to the Sox isn't even believable, how did so many people fall for it?
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2018 -> 01:49 PM) Chances of that pick being a better player than Moustakas are slim. I also think its slim they sign him, but probably like him a lot and if you gave him 4 or 5 years, he is there for when the winning is supposed to commence. It also would probably take Machado out of the equation, but then again, maybe not. Who knows, maybe Moustakis moves to 1B in a couple of years, and his presence helps convince a guy like Machado to take the White Sox money. Moustakas isn't good enough to warrant losing a draft pick at this point in time given where the Sox are at as a franchise. Just my opinion.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2018 -> 12:23 PM) In the ESPN.COM column on remaining free agents and where they will sign, for Moustakis, they gave the White Sox as best bet. I always figured the way Hawk went on and on about him, he was highly regarded at 35th and Shields. You have to wonder if his knee surgery hurt his defense, and if so, if it's permanent, but if they are being realistic, and his price is down, his bat would look really good at GRF. I would think if KC and the Sox were offering the same dough, he would stay where he's at. Forfeiting a draft pick for him would be moronic.
  21. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 09:57 PM) He's in the best shape of his life...in January? But where's he gonna be in March? He'll be as ripped as Kopech by March.
  22. I hope the Bulls keep Quincy Pondexter around, he is such a good leader even though he doesn't play that much.
  23. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jan 1, 2018 -> 06:58 PM) Seems like a good chance to take. Also may indicate how they're leaning on Abreu. Agreed. Choi isn't that old either. If the price is right, I'd think it's worth the risk.
  24. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) Does he need to get a ton better? He's already very good. That's certainly debatable. Very debatable.
