It makes sense that the Royals wouldn't want to give him away, but no team SHOULD part with anything of substantial value for an aging catcher that doesn't hit or catch particularly well at this point in time.
That tracks, I remember speaking with someone that cracked AAA with the Sox (in the 80s I believe), and their coaching for him on his changeup was to "throw it slower".
Last year he played 14 games against dudes (on average) 4+ years older than him in his first full season and admittedthat he was just gassed by then end. He's nearly doubled the games played there this season (31), still 2.5 years younger and coming off an injury. We'll see how he handles the AFL, but way to premature to start panicking.
They've had a long partnership and their three NC facilities are considered to be some of the best, so while Charlotte obviously isn't ideal for pitchers, I don't know that they'd look to leave because of that.
