Funny thing is I'm reading his chat and he says later that he's not high on Rodriguez at all, so not sure what makes it such an overpay.
-
From Dave Cameron's deadline chat today: Jimmy: Benintendi/Rodriguez/Devers/Swihart for Sale. Deal? Dave: That's a big overpay for Boston. C'mon Dave, big overpay?
-
C'mon man, stop trying to police how other people should enjoy sports. Part of the fun in sports is hating a team, and it's pretty easy for a Sox fan living in Chicago to hate the Cubs. You're not a superior fan because you don't hate the Cubs. Why does it matter to you?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) Any smoke out of Boston about why Moncada was pulled? He wasn't pulled, he played the whole game.
-
This isn't the mid-2000s anymore, Tillman shouldn't be in the mix just because of his record, and I don't think he is. I'm also going to be pretty upset if Hamels wins it with his very mediocre FIP. He's not deserving.
-
Not really a debate, Trout has way more value. Even at $30 million a year he's an incredible bargain.
-
Even if Boston was willing to do Betts straight up for Sale (and I don't think they would), it still doesn't make sense for this team. All you're doing is filling one hole and creating another, and it's not like there's a bunch of SP prospects banging on the door in our farm. It's completely pointless. If Sale is traded you need to fill multiple holes, not just one.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) Rumors have it the Nats would trade Lucas Giolito for Andrew Miller straight up. That might be as bad as the Shelby Miller trade. Yeah and there are also rumors that the Yankees would say no to that deal. This is crazy.

So Cameron says a Benintendi/Devers/1 lower level guy (or Moncada/Kopech instead for the first two), Urias/Verdugo (or Bellinger instead of Verdugo)/2 lower level guys or Gallo/Brinson/Ortiz/1 lower level guy should be enough for the Sox to want to move Sale. If Sale was traded for any of those packages, would anyone here be happy with those trades?

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) Figuring gallo just joined them and mazara has slowed a bit they are the 6th in baseball in runs. Not sure removing those 2 are going to take a major hit to their offense. Especially since they lost fielder and he hasn't been producing anyway. Throw in abreu and it will work out lol They're 18th in wRC+ and have scored most of their runs early in large part due to luck with sequencing. Since the sequencing has fallen back to normal levels they're a middle of the pack offense, and removing those two will just make it worse. Their offense has been a lot of smoke of mirrors this year, it's pretty average.
-
I don't see the Rangers happening because Mazara is a must and if he's included in a package with Gallo then the Rangers' lineup will become a joke. The upgrade to their rotation will be offset a lot by the downgrade to their offense.

The Possibility of the Curve Ball from the Sox...
OmarComing25 replied to shipps's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If a team was willing to overpay, I really think Hahn would pull the trigger on a trade for Sale or Quintana. The problem is their price is so high I don't see a team willing to do it, at least not right now. -
QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) I am not sure of that. Schwarber is obviously an AL type player and Baez isnt what is considered their core players. I dont have to tell you about Q and his greatness and he would be cost controlled to fill in for Arietta when he leaves for a massive contract. They wouldn't give up Baez for Tyson Ross last year when he had considerably less value than he does now, and they also don't need a SP, they're pretty well set there through at least the end of 2017. I just don't see how it makes any sense for them to do it right now.
-
Problem is there's no way the Cubs do that deal.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 09:15 AM) Kalapse owned this thread. Omar, don't fall for his hijinks lol Yeah I feel a bit silly now.

Crosstown Cup Finale Game Thread, Game 4
OmarComing25 replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2016 Season in Review
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 07:30 PM) Yup. This whole "strikeouts are actually bad because they don't let you go deep into games" thing he's got going on this year is absolute horses***, and Rick Hahn or somebody needs to explain this in detail to him and Don Cooper. Unfortunately he got really lucky pitching to contact early in the year and that's probably cemented the idea in their heads. Couldn't agree more, high strikeout Sale is clearly the best Sale. -
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 07:10 PM) Not to mention he didn't get to partake in 2005. That was why it was bittersweet for me. His 12 HR in 34 games that year was pretty cool though. At least he wasn't hurt the entire season and was productive when he did play.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:55 PM) Those batting averages just further prove my point, guy was paid $15M a year to jog to 1B. And RISP with 2 outs in the final 3 innings may not be the "only" clutch situations (debatable) but I think we can all agree they're the most important. Thanks again for proving my point. Batting average is a fairly meaningless stat when you can hit for power, what are you talking about? And I just showed that he wasn't even bad in those situations.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:51 PM) That homerun is immediately mitigated by the fact that he went 2 for 16 against Tampa in the ALDS, he pretty much single-handedly sunk their season with his playoff performance. Or do playoff at bats not count as clutch situations? So he had a bad series, he wasn't the only one. Singlehandedly? Vazquez, Buehrle, Floyd, Alexei, Cabrera, and Griffey didn't do s*** either. Why point the finger solely at Thome? Seriously what do you have against the guy?
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:44 PM) The vast majority of that production came early in games, guy couldn't do s*** with RISP and 2 outs in the final 3 innings of a game. So big hits early in the game don't count? You're really trying hard to not give the guy any credit. Also, you're still wrong. Innings 7-9: 2006: .246/.422/.566 2007: .285/.418/.520 2008: .211/.349/.458 2009: .234/.321/.427 2008 and 2009 are a step down but it's far from "couldn't do a s***" territory (and 2008 his OPS was still over .800 in those innings). Also, RISP with 2 outs in the late innings are not the only times you can get a big hit.
-
I may be in the minority here but 2008 is only a step below 2005 for me. Game 163 was easily a top 3 sports moment for me, and it helps that I hated the Twins far more than any other team in sports during those years, so ruining their season was extra special. Yeah they didn't go far in the playoffs but I will still remember that year very fondly.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:36 PM) Yes, that one HR (in a game that really meant s*** in the end) makes up for the countless strikeouts and popouts into the shift when the left side of the field was wide open. Makes sense. Just checked his splits and he hit far better with runners on base than with the bases empty every single season he was here. These are his numbers with runners on: 2006: .329/.453/.658 2007: .322/.488/.650 2008: .292/.411/.571 2009: .259/.406/.551 Yeah you're wrong. And that game won them the division. So every game is meaningless if the team doesn't win it all?
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:31 PM) People would appreciate Thome's time in a Sox uniform a lot more if he could ever pick up a clutch hit. 35 HR a year don't mean s*** if they're hit when it doesn't matter. Is this sarcasm? Did you forget Game 163?
-
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:30 PM) Jim Thome was great for a couple years. All-Star caliber. He should be our next manager. You really love your strawman arguments.
-
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:11 PM) It amazes me that anyone thinks winning 89 games and 1 playoff game in a decade is anything even worth mentioning. In the context of the trade it definitely means something, but nice job moving the goalposts. If the Sox don't move Gio for Thome there's a good chance they have zero playoff appearances in the last decade, so why blame Thome for it?
