  1. What would you sign Gio for/ 4/100 with a team option for a 5th year?
  2. I hope for a replay of the 1959 World Series match-up with Eloy taking Trevor Bauer DEEP with a walk-off home run to go up 3-0 in the Series.
  3. Fuck Trevor Bauer and Fuck the Dodgers. Time for MLB to get a grip. Salary caps + revenue sharing = Credibility and competitiveness. Economic Stimulus checks are too big you say? 40 Million / $1,400 = 28,571 people Sorry to wax about political/social ideology, but wealth inequality in this country just gets uglier every time you see something like this.
  4. Maybe time to sign Gio to an extension before he gets any better and wants the Moon.
  5. Grandal had a back issue last season. It may not return but suppose Grandal sustains a serious injury late in the season. Then you have Collins and Yermin as your catching duo going into the play-offs?
  6. I do not think an extra year of control is worth the game. The Sox can always offer to extend Vaughn if he appears worthy and, in turn, Vaughn can wait to seek an extension,,perhaps after a year where his performance makes it clear that he deserves big money. That is sort of why I would like to extend Giolito instead of waiting much longer. If he gets any better his asking price could be astronomical.
  7. After reading the thread, I am doubling down on my opinion that Vaughn can break camp with the major league club *IF* he rakes in Sprong Training, i.e., over .300 BA and jacks 3 or more HRs.
  8. Put a catcher's mask on Vaughn.
  9. I would like to hear more about (link?) Oscar Colas' decision to wait until 2022 to sign with the WSox.
  10. Vaughn will get a lot of attention in Spring Training and will have a chance to break camp on the 25 (or is it 26) man roster.
  11. Fun thread about what ifs, so I'll bite. If I was Hahn: - Keep Renteria. - Offer McCann 3/30 with an option for a 4th year (done last year before he hit FA). I think he would have bit. - sign Joc Pederson or maybe buy low on Benintendi for RF - Keep Dane Dunning - Sign Trevor Bauer - Extend Giolito - Pass on Liam and let Bummer Close. Edited to add: Wait until Jan 15, then split the international pool money between Cespy and Oscar Colas.
  12. If the Sox sign Bauer to 10 Mil/yr. how would Giolito feel about pitching for less than half of that ? He isn't a free agent until 2024, but, IMO, a multi-year extension for Giolito might make more sense than signing Bauer. Giolito is our ace and should be paid and treated that way. If Giolito is Cy Young material in 2021, signing him up to a long term deal is only going to get more expensive.
  13. Yup, Cease and Kopech at 4 and 5 with ReyLo and Rodon as starting depth. Instead of throwing 40 Million at Bauer, save that money to extend Lucas Giolito. Fired up...ready to go. Fired up...ready to go, Fired up...ready to go.
  14. Hahn could publicly express dismay at budgetary constraints as a way to telegraph to fans and to ownership that he needs a few more players to put the team in position to win. Instead we constantly hear the drone of supposedly aggrieved fans who always want more money spent and are never willing to give credit to the owner for what he has done for the Sox and for the city of Chicago.
  15. Did Jerry decide not to sign Jim McCann, or was that Hahn's or Kenny's decision? Seems to me that McCann could have filled a couple of holes or at least partial holes that have opened up now at DH and back-up catcher. Maybe that will work out for the Sox. If so Hahn will be the executive of the year. If not Jerry was too cheap. B1tch on.
  16. Jerry Reinsdorf is a great man, a great businessman and philanthropist. Like any CEO he delegates duties and responsibilities to others and relies on their judgment when it comes to matters that are within their respective domain. Some, like Robin Ventura , Ozzie Guillen, Rick Hahn, and even Hawk when he was a short-lived GM have failed him at times, but he has given all of them the benefit of the doubt...and despite disagreements, most of them have positive things to say about him after they have left. If Rick Hahn feels that he has been constrained unfairly or unseasonably with budgets for player salaries or in any other ways unfairly over the past 9 years, he should voice his objection or just seek an opportunity with another franchise Owner who might give him carte blanche.
  17. 4 and 5 pitchers on most teams are among the worst in baseball. With a strong bullpen and a smart Manager who knows how to use it, their exposure is going to be limited. Also, we have Kopech and Crochet who may be ready to pick up some starts later in the season. Not every move has to be made right now. Hahn tried to fill all the holes in prior years and it didn't always work out. Gio Gonzo and Cishek?
  18. Starting the season with Cease @4 and ReyLo @5 (and perhaps re-signing Rodon as depth) maintains some financial flexibility. That is not that bad of an option for a team that has a strong bullpen and a possible starter like Kopech in the wings. Cease and ReyLo are not complete game pitchers (how many of them are there any more?) but if they can go 4-5 innings and keep the score close, that may be all that is needed. Sox are going to be wailing on the ball and putting up some softball scores so they are going to win some games where a starter gives up 3-5 runs in the first few innings. TLaR is not going to let any starter in for too long with the bullpen arms he has. I would not worry about the back of rotation at this point. There is always an opportunity to add before the trading deadline. IMHO, Bauer could pose a risk to team chemistry. Therefore, if the Sox pass on him and his personal demands (which are beyond salary) I am fine with that. And Cruz? Come on, we are loaded with hitters don't need to add another old hitter like Thome, Dunn, LaRoach, Todd Frazier, etc, at the end of their respective careers. Pack up the gear, get vaccinated, and get ready for Spring Training.
  19. I get the gist of the thread.. The team has a real chance to win in 2021 so go all in, even at the expense of being able to resign talent, acquire talent in future years, build farm systems, add to recruiting and scouting, improve facilities, marketing, media, etc.. Some are quick to make oversimplifications and presumptions A professional sports franchise has many moving parts to it. It is not as simple as comparing player salaries vs team revenue in any single year.
  20. I am starting to get excited about the upcoming season.I have been noticing that a lot of people wearing Sox hats , sweatshirts and coats ....and Spring Training has not even started. . I have the beautiful WS license plates on my black Benz. I am proud of the White Sox and thank Jerry Reinsdorf for the team we have. It is a great time to be a White Sox fan.
  21. The Sox are pretty much set other than filling in around the edges for depth. Prepare to report for Spring Training men.
