  1. In an earlier post, I asked why anyone would think that LaRussa would be the right man to manage this particular team at this time. I haven't received an answer. The answer depends on who you ask. I would not listen to Jeff Passan, a cub fan. Ozzie Guillen: "The best free agent the White Sox have (signed) in a while. And the best coach and the best person off the field that they’ve hired in 30 years is Tony La Russa, including myself," Ozzie Guillén said on the most recent edition of the White Sox Talk Podcast. "That’s my opinion. If people don’t like it, they don’t put food on my table." Three World Series titles, six pennants and 2,728 wins, the third most in major league history. James McCann: “I think Tony La Russa is a good hire,” McCann said on the White Sox Talk Podcast. “I’ve seen people maybe think it was an interesting hire based on Rick Hahn’s comments based on what they're looking for, but I truly believe that Tony is going to be a phenomenal fit for that team.” Matt Vasgersian and Harold Reynolds on Hot Stove Listen to Harold Reynolds comments Other than Oz, I don't recall any White Sox Manager that maintained fan favorability for too long, but that is not and should never be a criteria. Sox fans stood silent for the most part during the Robin Ventura malaise and failed to blame him or Rick Hahn for the LaRoach fiasco or the Chris Sale and Adam Eaton rebellion. LaRussa would never tolerate what Ventura and Hahn put up with in the club house. Players are going to respect him . As far as the fans, they will do what they always do and did to Renteria - second guess everything and call for his head on a platter after any loss or after substituting a pitcher that gives up runs. LaRussa will succeed or fail based on his performance, just like any other Manager. Fans will blame thge Manager for every bad move, like they always do. If anybody thinks that a second DUI at appx. 75 years old, ten years after the first one at appx. 65 means he should not be given a second chance, OK, but keep some perspective on this. A baseball manager is not entrusted with peoples' health safety and welfare. It is a fucking game. LaRussa proved a lot to JR in 1983 with a tremendous , exhilarating run after a slow start to the season. TLaR became JR's friend and confidant in ensuing years. Trust and loyalty play big with a lot of business owners, They are absolute requirements for Jerry Reinsdorf and for good reason. You live and learn and JR has done quite a bit of both. I think JR lost confidence in Hahn after the LaRoach fiasco and trading Tatis Jr. so it would not surprise me to see JR would consider bringing Ozzie back if LaRussa does not work out. Hopefully at some point. some of you will refocus on the game.
  2. One of friends (around 50 ) has sciatica and eventually had surgery. The extreme pain came back in less than 2 years. He is average weight but can't do much to condition himself because he can't exercise without pain. It is a vicious circle. Right now he is reticent to have a second back surgery even though has some really bad days where he can barely walk. Personally I am more concerned about this as a possible chronic pain problem for Jace Fry than I am with whether he can pitch again.
  3. I'll probably watch Trip to Greece 4-5 more times in the next 5 years and I wouldn't even tell anyone it's a good film. I watched it for about 20 minutes. I guess I don't get that kind of dry British humor.
  4. I will. Carry on, but please speak for yourself, not "everyone else."
  5. I don't carry water, whine incessantly, or shoot flames out my ass. I just want to enjoy the game and focus on baseball and the new season.
  6. we deserve to know exactly how all this went down, No "we" (you) don't. if we have to deal with this bullshit going forward You don't have to deal with this. then I want the Sox to have to sweat every last detail of this fiasco No need to sweat the details of something that isn't your business. As I stated, let circumstances play out. Meanwhile, let Sox fans including yourself enjoy the game.
  7. Complaining about the TLaR hire initially was fair game, but it has gotten old over the past several weeks. Please move on men because this is starting to get counterproductive. Let circumstances play out for a while with the team and let Sox fans enjoy the start of a new season. Thanks.
  8. I would have preferred signing McCann (which they probably could have done for 3/30 last year) and signing Joc Pederson to platoon with Engel in RF. Water over the bridge now.
  9. Come on man. Give it up.
  10. I am so done with reading threads that trash JR and TLaR and aggrandize Rick Hahn. I am so this is the last one I will read. Look, if Hahn had a problem with the hiring of TLaR he could have said so or quit. He didn't do either. ST is here. Move on for chrisesakes.
  11. so, if Vaughn is not what people expect him to be (a rookie that comes up and takes over the DH spot against RH and LH starters) that might be when musical chairs begin: Tim Anderson Yoan Moncada Jose Abreu Eloy Jiminez Grandal Luis Robert (DH)? Madrigal Eaton If we are depending on Vaughn to be a full time DH that would put a lot of pressure on him as a rookie. In 2019 at Kannapolis and Winston Salem Vaughn hit .252 with 5 HR in 190ABs....not exactly dominating Minor league pitching.
  12. I have not seen enough Vaughn at-bats to have the same confidence others have in him in as an every day DH against RH and LH starters. Lucroy could possibly beat out Collins as back-up catcher. Regardless of who wins that role, they could become part of a platoon with Grandal and others at DH if Vaughn does not work out.
  13. Harry asked her to go to the Cubs when he did and Nancy refused.
  14. Well let's see how that works out. I wanted the Sox to trade for him in the past because he was still relatively young and I thought he had potential as a LH bat in our line-up and would have been a decent option in RF.
  15. My own opinion, knowing the Bridgeport area, the South Loop, U of I Circle, Taylor Street, South Halsted street from Sox park to Greek-town, and all of the South Suburbs, is that the current location at 35th street will only gain in value and become more friendly for Sox fans over time. The Reinsdorfs (Jerry and his son) will almost certainly seek an extension on the current deal with ISA instead of seeking an alternative site to build on. In turn, the ISA will have no other alternative but to deal with them. What would ISA's leverage be? Put a soccer team in there ? Knock down the park and sell the land to a developer? I suppose the Sox could build on the site of the Old Comiskey at some point. They could do a bang up job picking up architectural cues from the old park and from the history of Chicago architecture. Much could be done to develop the surrounding area which has already undergone quite a bit of gentrification.
  16. KC's back up Offensive tackles were dominated. It ruined KC's running game and made Mahomes run for his life the entire game. That ruined KC's chances and made the game a joke blow-out.
  17. I thought that there was a bad non-call when a TB lineman slapped Mahomes helmet after he was down. Mahomes complained but no flag. Mahomes was not that far removed from concussion protocol, which is not all that predictive of future concussion. He did not look like he was entirely there, especially after he was hit a few times. His helmet looked like it was on a bobble head doll. Edited to add - no excuse for the loss, but it was what it was, a shitty, non-competitive game with bad calls, bad announcing (Romo) terrible half-time show, and commercials.
  18. Sorry but taunting is an @hole move and most people took it that way...both times,
  19. Kopech's wife had a baby boy - River Kopech. https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/13978378/riverdale-vanessa-morgan-michael-kopech-back-together-baby/
  20. Our Ace Gio is signed for 4.15 Mil. It would only cause problems now and in the future if they signed Bauer for 35 Million a year. Plus, Bauer is an @hole which is hard to quantify.
  21. Beyond money, the fact is that Bauer has had issues with teammates and organizations that he has played for in the past. He is a lone wolf, not a team player. I never liked the guy and am glad he is not on the White Sox. Meanwhile, I think we will all enjoy seeing pitchers compete for the 4th and 5th starter positions. Much more interesting than handing it to someone, IMO.
  22. I like the Sox at every position but the Cubs still have an intact core of Bryant Rizzo Contreras, Baez, Heyward and now Joc Pedersen. Maybe they will be better than we think. Schwarber was a good non-tender and Joc could hit 30+ HR, especially in Wrigley. They needed a TOR starter or two which is why the Ricketts probably should have been in on Bauer. Not sure what the plan is over there.
  23. Who are you rooting for or betting on and why?
