Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
tray replied to Southwest Sider's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would have preferred Benentendi and Devers to Moncada and Kopech based on what the team needs. -
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) Remember he is ONLY 21. I guess I was expecting the immediate impact of a hitter like Benintendi for Chris Sale. I am not concluding that Moncada was over hyped but I am starting to wonder if he will turn out to be as good of a player as his rating as a number the number one prospect in baseball. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox...ying_to_be_more

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) Based off of what? 9 spring training at bats? Yes.
-
Mncada appears to be further away from becoming a starting player in the majors than I imagined.
-
I wonder what people who have had the luxury of watching the games this far in ST think of Moncada's defense (catching and throwing) as a second basemen.
-
This may be a make or break Spring Training for Avi like a lot of other players. I found it interesting that Avi was listed as DH and not among the outfielders on http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/roster

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) lol wut This is one of the most logically backward posts I've ever read. "Logically backwards? " LOL.

One cannot want the team to tank but then suggest signing a washed up player as a LH DH because the line-up lacks power. The sooner Collins and Moncada are brought up, the sooner they start getting the experience they need. Minor league experience is overrated and can be counterproductive to players who can get too comfortable there and accustomed to lower expectations and an inferior level of competition. Collins can catch a few games here and there and get major league at bats as a platoon LH DH or pinch hitter. Moncada can share time with Saladino. The rebuilding process involves trading veteran players and bringing up the top prospects to see if they can compote at this level and to gain major league experience.
-
Brent Lawrie should try to play Left field , otherwise he will have a tough time making the 25 man roster.
-
Zack Colliins, as a Left handed DH and third string catcher would make some sense. Matt Davidson as a Right Handed DH second string third basemen might also make some sense.
-
If fans are this sensitive to losing a meaningless ST game like this, how wilt they tolerate a long term rebuild? I just have the Sox logo on the webcast link. No picture or sound.

Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal
tray replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) Roberts may think that way but the agent 's commisson is based on the bid. You are right but neither Roberts nor his agent are here for one transaction. If he makes it on the Whte Sox as a starting outfielder, which is probably more likely than it would be on almost any other team, He will be paid well, and he will be welcomed, as I mentioned, on a team already set up to make Cuban players comfortable. I'm just trying to be positive if you don't mind. -

I am hoping the Roberts and his agent chose to sign with the White Sox even if they do not place the highest bid under whatever rules are in place. I am hoping that Moncada, Abreu and a Spanish speaking Manager will be factors as well as the fact that he has little to no competition from anyone in the Sox system for a starting position in the outfield. Do whatever possible to get him. This rebuild needs some good news. -
The White Sox need outfielders. Any trades that involve Quintana, Robertson or Frazier should be focused on getting the best outfielder(s) possible in return. I would want an outfielder in the top 100 or close to that for Robertson and an outfielder in or near the top 10 for Quintana. The Nats need to see what kind of pitcher they can get for Severino from other teams. Good luck with that.
-
I have it from the Offical White Sox page: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/schedule/?...alendar=DEFAULT

Washington does not have a catching prospect ranked in the top ten. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/213808058/20...hing-prospects/ Anyway, Hahn is more interested in obtaining outfielders so perhaps Robertson will be traded to another team.
-
Teams that are going for it make trades in large measure based on what they need to have. The greater and more imminent that need is, the more they will give up in return. If the Nat's relief core starts blowing games they may have to cough up Robles for a reliever or relievers. Well OK, Robertson plus Nate Jones won't be enough to get Robles, but if the Nats get desperate for a Closer, they are going to have to unload talent to some team at some point, especially if they want a Closer that is ranked higher than Robertson. It's their problem, not Rick Hahn's. He already schtooped them. If they want it again, call Rick.
-
They have no reason to give up a very talented prospect unless the player they are getting is younger and/or under team control for a while. Todd Frazier does not fit that bill. If Sandoval falters, they'll have interest in Frazier, but they're not spending a lot on him. I am not following your logic. The Red Sox are in it to win it this year. Why would they want an unproven third basemen like Devers on a team like that instead of a guy like Frazier that could be a monster in Fenway? Also, Dombrowski has never been shy to spend money when he thinks hsi team is getting close to a championship run. "Devers is probably a 60 FV type is worth well more than Todd Frazier." This is not like trading baseball cards or making trades in the abstract based on statistics alone. Who would you want at third base in the playoffs or World Series? Devers of Frazier? That is the context.
-
If Sandoval has any issues in Spring Training or soon after the start of the season, Dombrowski will trade Devers and perhaps more to get Frazier. Dombropwski and Boston are not going to mess around with any under-performing player on a team that is geared to compete for the WS this year. As far as Devers, there are significant question marks about his upside per the link I posted, just like there are with most other prospects. He is not close to being on the same level as Moncada and Benintendi. I want Frazier on the White Sox this season and perhaps re-signed to a short term deal unless Hahn is bowled over with a trade offer. Toddfather's contribution to the team is not just measured in stats , and White Sox fans love that guy. 40 HR is a huge factor and I bet he hits better than .220 this season. Did you see his son doing a Hawk impression? Put it on the boarrrrrrd..
-
Sorry for my awkward sentence implying that Devers was a catcher, and the broken link about Devers. I'll try that again without using the link tool: http://www.espn.com/blog/boston/red-sox/po...-red-sox-system
-
Nick Confardo of the Boston Globe mentioned that the Red Sox would be a good landing spot for Frazier. I'm not sure Rafael Devers would be what the Sox are looking for, since they have Zack Collins who might project better and the Sox could also potentially be in play for Severino from the Nationals.
-
Rizzo does not want to get too far behind division leaders right out of the gate. Rizzo could be bluffing as well. Perhaps if Hahn offered Robertson plus Nate Jones, that would let Rizzo sleep better at night knowing he has two more relievers in case the pitchers he has under perform. And if that is what Hahn offers, Robles has to be the headliner in the return package.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
tray replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 07:45 PM) But if the other teams backed out, should Hahn have asked for a lesser deal? Because using your rationale, the risk of Q having an arm injury is now with the White Sox I agree that is important for both sides to assess the risk of arm injury in deciding on a deal for a premier pitcher. However, considering Quintana's durability, I for one , would rather take the risk of holding Q until an acceptable deal, like the one Hahn was working on, comes along. This is something that can always be second guessed, especially in hindsight (i.e., trading away Buehrle and signing Danks), -

QUOTE (Lillian @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) Yes, and imagine if one of these prospective teams opts to spend $100 Million on a comparable pitcher, through free agency. The fact that Q is so affordable greatly mitigates the very risk, to which you allude. I'm all for making that argument to whoever the Owner was that vetoed the prospective trade ! Hahn mentioned (in the interview with Chuck Garfein at CSN) that the return package in that proposed deal was constructed similar to the deal for Sale. We can't be sure exactly what he meant, but it sounds like it may have been a deal that was centered around a very highly rated prospect. That is also the impression I git from his other comments in that interview. -

Any pitcher, no matter where he is ranked, carries more risk than a position player would because of potential arm injury. That could explain why owners would be reticent to part with a premier position player prospect(s) for Q. IMO.. Imagine if Sale blows out his arm after two or three starts..
