A Realistic Offseason
Perhaps signing Moose makes sense, since he could play third and second in a pinch and could be a LH DH. With Leury as infield back-up maybe Moose would take Yolmer's spot on the roster. I sense the Cubs really want Castellanos back and given that, I would love to see Jerry outbid Joe Rickett, even if it is a slight over pay...but I would not go longer than a 3 year deal.

Who would still want Maddon?
Maddon's best days are behind him but if some organization is foolish enough to offer him a guaranteed 3 year guaranteed worth 25 Million, he'll take it. This guy will will be what...66 years old next season so maybe time for old Joe to retire and enjoy all the Ameritrade day trader money Ricketts gave him.

White Sox part ways w/ Todd Steverson & Greg Sparks, name Frank Menechino as new Hitting Coach
Coop is awesome. I hope he stays with it at least one more year.

A Realistic Offseason
Castellanos looks (physically) like he may have a little more gas left in the tank than JDMart. I'd be elated if they added Castellanos and Grandal.

A Realistic Offseason
I am not 100% sure about penciling in Madrigal as the starting second basemen quite yet. That was Ozzie's sentiment as well. Because of that I would sign Yolmer, just in case. I like the idea of signing Grandal because I am not that confident in Collins defense. I would go after Castellanos like a b1tch and make certain to outbid the Cubs for him. He could platoon in RF with Leury and at DH with Grandall/Collins. I like Madison Bumgarner but I don't think the Sox will offer him a deal for as many years as he wants. Sox don't need to trade any of their core of young players and prospects. It took a while to get these guys so don't blow it with any hair brain ideas now.

A Realistic Offseason
1 Cole Calhoun AND Nick Castellanos Get 'em both. 2. A top or middle of rotation (1,2 or 3 slot) starter. 3. Bullpen arm or two. 4. Don't trade away any players in our core.

Sox Win and Cubs Eliminated
I'd like to see the Sox sign a free agent that the Cubs are after, like perhaps, Castellanos. That would make for some interesting conversation here. Epstein said he is going to make a lot of changes. Guys like Russell, Schwarber, Zobrist , probably won't be there nest year. Cubs will bolster the bullpen with several guys to set up for Kimbrel . The Cubs would Cody Parkey him if they didn't owe him big bucks.

2020 RF options
OK, I know Sox won't sign Cole and/or Castellanos but it is interesting to consider this comparison to gauge how close the Sox might be to the Cubs next season in terms of being "competitive." A. 2020 Cubs with Cole and Castellanos to B. 2020 White Sox with Cole and Castellanos

Can reylo make a similar jump as giolito did this year in 2020?
I don't think Castillo helped out Reylo much yesterday. Pitch selection and location was not the best, but obviously most of that was Reylo's fault. Yea, Reylo has decent control in most starts but needs to get more movement on his fastball, even if he slows it down 2 or 3 mph and put some English on it. Hitters like 97 mph darts when they are straight. He has had a few games where his slider is exceptional but he only had a couple of decent sliders yesterday. I wouldn't write him off yet. I think Kopech might make a better Closer than a starting pitcher, but that is yet to be seen. I say that because max effort to throw high 90's is not a recipe for longevity as a starter. Just my 2 cents.

Who would still want Maddon?
That four game sweep by the Cardinals was one of the classic Cub chokes of all time and man was that some enjoyable Fall baseball. Maddon will be let go at season's end and he will retire. Ricketts is too chicken to fire Theo Epstein. Theo has a lock on that job for as long as he wants it.

2020 RF options
Play the guy ... and play him a lot next year. If he's a huge bust, somebody in scouting should be fired. Too late, Hostetler has already been promoted.

Who would still want Maddon?
Omar Vizquel would make sense but I think Renteria probably stays for at least one more season. As far as the Cubs. LOLOLOL... Maddon is so done. Theo will hire Girardi and all will be well with fans in cub world. They like to scapeGoat.

2020 RF options
Is there some injury or other concern that is preventing Collins from catching every game ? If not, perhaps the Sox are contemplating a possible trade that could involve Collins and they don't want him to either prove beyond any doubt that he sucks or injure himself before the end of the season.

And That's an Unexpected White Sox Winner !
September Collins can catch up to an occasional mistake pitch and lay on it for a home run, and have games where he does not commit an error. However, September games that are meaningless to both teams are not the best way to assess talent and gauge future performance. Let's see him block pitches, throw out runners, and call several games against teams that are vying for a playoff spot. Unfortunately, we don't have many games left on the schedule to do that. The Sox wasted too much time with Castillo on the roster.

James McCann - catcher of the future ?
McCann's offense has tapered off but it should not be surprising that a catcher wears down during a long season. Also, consider that McCann has not always had protection behind him in the line-up. Nevertheless, he has been a clutch hitter through most of the season and his defensive skills have been pretty consistent. Meanwhile, Collins has not demonstrated the defensive skills that the White Sox would require from a starting or back-up catcher. He has completed some games without making an error but that doesn't prove much. He looks slow to me...not a big catcher with the cat-like reactions that Carlton Risk had. Let him catch the rest of the games to see what he has.

Future White Sox Lineup #GetExcited
I can't believe people are penciling in Collins for the 2020 25 man roster. For what? What has he proven while he has been up? He is a butcher behind the plate and has not shown he can hit above the Mendoza line. Let him catch the rest of the games this season and have the opportunity to prove otherwise.

2020 RF options
We need a catcher to back up McCann.

2020 RF options
Moncada stays at third and Madigal at second. That is pretty much set in stone. Likewise, TA will be our shortstop for the next several years. He has the talent to make difficult plays and the discipline to cut down on errors on routine plays. TA's one handed picks are often unnecessary . That is a technique that he can change. Plus he may be the AL batting champion this season, so he gets a lot of latitude for his defense. The Scouting reports indicated that Vaughn's bat was almost major league ready. If they were right then maybe he comes up as a DH next season.

Could the White Sox hire Dave Dombrowski?
Unless KW is told to retire and becomes a White Sox ambassador, I doubt this is even considered. I would like to see Dombo with Hahn as the new management team that takes the team to the next level with some free agent signings. I love that, but you know the guy was trying to go all out to win one . It didn't work out in MoTown but maybe a big contract or two helps the Sox over the top. Maybe it doesn't. We just don't know. Chris Sale and a few other guys sunk Dombrowski. Sale sucked (compared to what he was expected to do) this season.

NFL Thread 2019-2020
You have to establish the run game. Then you can put together drives that eat up the time that the other offense (Rodgers) spends on the field carving us up.

9/5 Sox@Indians gamethread
That was my thought was well. Low slow change-ups are made for the high leg-kick upper-cut softball swingers. I think the low slow change-up pitch might fall out of favor with some pitchers who see too many of them get recognized early and wailed on. The one exception I see is that high "parachute" change-up that Gio has. I think that one still surprises a lot of hitters and it is harder for them to load up on their back foot to lean on it.

If Moncada tagged up at second Abreu would have probably tagged up at third. However, Moncada didn't tag up at second probably because he would have been the tying run and wanted to try to score if the ball was dropped. A few cheap shots at these players so I am glad to be among those who defend them.

Watch the replay and look at where Moncada is at the 57 second mark: https://www.mlb.com/video/must-c-mercado-s-crucial-catch

I think I understand why Abreu got a lead off third instead of tagging as he would have on a fly ball. First, his run meant nothing. Yes. Moncada advancing to third behind him would have been t significant BUT Moncada didn't tag if you look at the replay Moncada not only did not tag, but he almost made it to third base and had to scoot back to not be doubled up. Abreu saw Moncada coming hard to third and that may have caused Abreu to take a lead off third rather than tagging up. Fan hindsight is 20/20 but I can see a lot of players doing what Abreu and Moncada did in that situation. These things happen especially when there is an unexpected play like the catch on that Eloy missile. No reason trolling Abreu. He is an excellent player and the Sox would not have been in the game without his home run and single.

Lopez exits game while pitching no hitter w/ flu like symptoms & dehydration
The reporters who pestered Lopez after the game to dig down deeper into what "flu-like symptoms" meant got there answer - diarrhea. The guy had the sh1ts . Let it go now .
