  1. Meanwhile Sox rotation is looking so good that a Second Place finish this year, while far flung, is not entirely out of the question.
  2. I love AJ in the booth as well. One minor gripe I had with Hawk's announcing today was his mention of LeBron putting his foot in politics. It seems to me that in that case (without mentioning a name) politics put their foot in sports and LeBron just asked for it to stop. But other than that, I love the Hawk (even though I disagree with his politics) and thought his pre-game speech was awesome.
  3. Watching Benintendi out there makes me wish Hahn could get a do-over on the Sale trade.
  4. It will be interesting to see Benintendi and Moncada tonight. I wonder how many Sox fans would rather have had Benintendi than Moncada in that trade. I wanted both of them. ?
  5. Lopez has great stuff, not just goof stuff. All plus pitches - 97mph fastball, good change, slider and curve. He is a competitor as he showed in this game at Yankee stadium during a pennant run for them with all the pressure on them. Man can we have a good rotation if these guys keep up. The last several games, including this series at Yankee stadium, have been fun to watch. Entertaining baseball. That play on the wild pitch by Kevan Smith and Reynaldo was freaking awesome. Go .... you.... White .... Sooooooooxxxxx!
  6. Great Defense by Tim Anderson, Yolmer and even by Davidson who picked some off target throws, including on the DP in the 7th. Tim Anderson is fun to watch on the bases. Yolmer makes some great plays at the hot corner. Life is short. Bring up Eloy.
  7. I am not drinking down the entire glass the Koolaid on Kopech just yet but I have sipped a lot of it. I think he is a potential Ace in the coming years. At worst, he could turn into a Jeff Samardzija but if he can still throw 100+ he could even transition to being a Closer. Right now he stands at or near the top of our rotation. So, Rodon, Kopech, Cease, Gio, Reynaldo next season and obviously a few other guys have a shot to make it. This is very good news for our Sox going into 2019.
  8. Tonight's game on WGN is a free over the air broadcast. My new RCA ant751 antenna in the attic (from Wallyworld) is giving me a picture as good as cable. Thanks to whomever it was that recommended that to me here.
  9. The fact is there isn't a single metric other than anecdotal speakings that support what you are saying, while every single measurable fact from multiple generations worth of data falls in my camp. Perhaps your camp is on the North Side. The biggest fallacy of your camp is that gauging the amount of fan support by attendance figures at the park is inherently flawed. Wrigley is walking distance for many fans. Bridgeport is rapidly being gentrified and the South loop continues to creep toward 35th street, so that is changing. Many, many things concerning the fan base have changed over the years and will change in ways that one cannot predict. Joe Ricketts over-developed the Wrigley site and all that Ameritrade money maximized exposure. It won't last forever. Nothing does. Sox outdrew the Cubs in several years before 1980 and in 1982, 1983, 1984 before the Harry Caray clown show moved to the North side. They will again at some point but in the meantime, there are many more Sox fans than Cub fans right now inside the city limits and in the South suburbs, and they are proving to be quite resilient.
  10. "a nice Hispanic family who just wants to bully their way out of the parking lot, or the 3 of them, including their kid, may open your car door and go through your window to assault you, then chase down the car as you try to drive away, beating at the windows and yelling. " "What is racist about that? Unless it you think they committed a hate crime, which I don't have any real reason to assume. They were just very concerned with cutting people off in the parking lot. Their son did use racial slurs, but none that actually made sense to the race in which he yelled them at. " Your initial comment was in the third person as though this was a hypothetical, then you say something about racial slurs in the first person. I am Hispanic and found your comments to be blatantly bigoted and provocative. That is why I responded,. I know you won't apologize so please, just stop. Thanks.
  11. "Don't talk back to a nice Hispanic family who just wants to bully their way out of the parking lot, or the 3 of them, including their kid, may open your car door and go through your window to assault you, then chase down the car as you try to drive away, beating at the windows and yelling. " Really? I did not think bigoted, racist, or political posts were allowed by the terms of service here.
  12. I am OK with allowing Moncada to show what he has (or doesn't have) this season because it provides the Sox organization with a lot of information to process in a throw away season. Similarly, I would bring Eloy , Robert, Case, Kopech or anyone else who is even close to major league ready at the outset on the 2019 season. I don't think the "he is not ready to come up t the majors" is a valid argument for any of the top prospects when some of the placeholders on the 25 man roster are a joke. In short, I think 2019 should start off with all hands on deck. I will always be a great fan of the White Sox and because of that, I do not want to see another year like this. This is just awful.
  13. Tim Anderson saw the catch then stopped running. It was a natural instinct. Players don't run out line drives that are caught for outs. And normally they don't get benched for it.
  14. I get why Moncada was mentioned. There are a lot of prospects and players that fans fall in love with so to speak, but then end up as average players who never fulfill the high expectations fans had for them. So, consider the possibility that Fulmer becomes a middle inning long reliever, not even a set-up 8th inning reliever. Is that what fans expected of a high first round Draft pick? Maybe some would be happy with that but not me, not when the Sox need some star players for this rebuild. The Sox cannot blow high first round Draft picks for average major league talent. This may come off as sarcastic and I don't mean it that way but the thought came to mind last night watching the 9th that Davidson has better stuff than Fulmer.
  15. WTH is dat? LOL. It's a typo like say, mofo. Moncada can't hit Left Handed pitchers as a Right Handed hitter. But you knew that. He cannot start games against against LEFT HANDED starters if continues to hit .147 against them LOL He doesn't want to play third base and anyway, Yolmer is probably a better defender there with a superior arm. PERHAPS Madrigal could beat Moncada out for the second base job, maybe as soon as next season. My guess is that Madrigal will make all the routine plays just like he did in College, and will hit for a much higher average than Moncada and avoid all the strike outs. Moncada touted as the number one prospect in all of baseball has not yet lived up to that rating.
  16. Moncada cannot be a full time starter if he cannot hit RH pitching, and thus far, he seems to have proven that he can't. I'm not buying excuses. This season is over half way done, Moncada will be 24 next year and Madrigal will be challenging for second base.
  17. I thought it would be a fun exercise to theoretically construct a roster for the 2019 season that could potentially win it all. I like the thought and appreciate your take on this. The Sox moves made prior to and during the 2005 caught lightning in a bottle for us. It would take a lot of luck, imagination and guile to duplicate that success as well as an enormous capital investment in player contracts. To have a championship season once again, the Sox need to have at least a few All Star level players and pitchers who reach a crescendo with their careers in the same year.
  18. I'll bite As long as we are in the theatre of the absurd ....ok, If the Sox would be willing to sign Machado to an enormous contract just trade for him right now. I'd even offer Moncada for a package with Machado and a high prospect if that is what it would take. Then let Yolmer play second base until Madrigal is ready. Yea, I know, Moncada is the centerpiece of the rebuild, the guy we got for Sale.
  19. Personally I could live with TA at SS or 3rd with sub-standard D if he hits the ball out of the park more, walks more and steals more.Tim can do all of that. I cannot live with Moncada starting every day at any position if he only hits .150 against LH pitching. That has gotten ridiculous.
  20. Moncada can't hit left hand pitching after parts of three season in the majors and 140 or so ABs against LH pitching. On this forum it is not good enough to opine that a player might develop as a RH hitter. There has to be some statistic or a statistical trend to bolster one's argument or some definite short term trend that meets the eye test. Otherwise, I suppose, some attempt by the player to change his approach, or in this case, perhaps to have Moncada stop batting RH altogether and platoon with someone who can play second and hit LH pitching. I guess Moncada will have the rest of the 2018 season to prove he can hit LH pitching. If he can't then there are other options and decisions to be made. I am really disappointed in what it appears we got for Chris Sale, at least to this point. Time will tell though.
  21. I would rather keep Abreu if he can be signed on a three year deal, not five. Meanwhile, Avi Garcia looks like he is the guy who hit .330 last season. His reputation suffers from initial perceptions that he was going to have a lot of swing and miss in his game and that he was slow. Instead he looks like he is turning into one of the leagues best hitters and he has uncommon speed for a player his size. Way underrated, in my opinion.
  22. Moncada recently said that in hindsight, he was glad the Red Sox traded him so that he could play where he feels comfortable...second base. Madrigal probably does not have a strong enough arm to play on the Left side of the infield and make the longer throws. There is no room in the outfield for Tim Anderson and no reason to move him from SS unless the Sox have someone who can play SS better and hit.
  23. tray replied to WBWSF's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Maybe Ti'Quan Forbes is in the running (among in-house options) for the 3B spot in 2020. IMO Madrigal will most likely be our second basemen and T.A will stay at short. Moncada ? Not sure. With Madrigal coming up perhaps late 2019 or 2020, Moncada has time to prove second belongs to him, or not.
  24. Benetti - a pseudo-intellectual baseball mind that is just amazed by himself.
  25. Avi has developed into a .300 hitter with power. He keeps getting better but some people just keep doubting him. I wouldn't trade him unless the offer was overwhelming. It is hard to get All-Star level player at any position let alaone someone who hit .330 over an entire season.
