  1. I never realized the significance of that one game on September21 against the cubs with Reynaldo out-dueling Quintana. The cubs ended up just one game short of the Division forcing a game 163 against the Brew crew, and we know what happened after that. Nice job boys ! Relentless offensive attack leads White Sox over the Cubs: 9/21/18
  2. I watched the College World Series this year. Adley Rutschman was amazing. If he is there, I would take him without question. I'm guessing he might be another Fisk - a durable big catcher who can hit.
  3. Perspective and maturity come with age. So does experience which as Hawk says, you get sometimes when you don't want to get it. As to the Bear loss, suck it up, buttercups. Aaron Rodgers is going to win some close games before he goes into the Hall of Fame, including against us. Bears have one more game with the Packers to exact revenge and bragging rights. We will beat their azz next time, trust me on that. The Kopech news was rough, but let's face it, he probably will never be as good as Chris Sale. Sale is a once in a generation talent, perhaps the best Sox pitcher ever. Kopech is a muscle head who had a 50 game suspension for PED use. He got into a fight with a teammate, possible as a result of roid rage. . His muscular frame and 100 mph fastball may not be sustainable over time even if we assume it will comes back after his TJ rehab. The Sox need to hit on some major All Star talent at numerous positions before they compete for a championship....like most other major league teams. That may not happen again in you lifetime. If you can't face that reality and enjoy watching baseball , well then maybe some other pastime would be time better spent for you.
  4. Kopech is a young man who has had previous issues (a 50 game suspension for PEDs, breaking his hand in a fist fight with a teammate) but looked like he was cleaning it up when he came to the White Sox. We, as Sox fans love the guy, but some question why he tried to pitch over arm soreness. Perhaps he didn't anyone, but the again, even Benetti and Chuch Garfein noticed that Kopech was uncomfortable during pre-game warm-ups. Then there was the indication of reduced velocity that should have at least caused a mound visit. Well it is all water over the bridge now. Just to make myself feel better I am going to pretend that when we had Sale, he blew his arm up and we could not get a thing for him in trade. Given that hypothetical, I can imagine that things would be about as bad as they seem right now.
  5. It's really hard watching this game knowing the bad news about Kopech while Benetti ignores it, talks about a hamburger and engages in trite small talk. This season is for all practical purposes, Ovah.
  6. Now look what we got for Chris Sale: Moncada a .220. hitter with 200+ strikeouts/year, a pitcher who may never regain the velocity on his fastball after surgery, and Basabe, Fuck. The Sox should have focused on position players for this rebuild. Stop picking pitchers in the First Round of the Draft (Fulmer) Stop trading position player prospects (Tatis Jr.) for starting pitching. Stop making stupid Draft picks (Burgur, Collins, Hawkins ) The rebuild timetable just got blown up. Perhaps a silver lining will come into focus at some point but I only see gray clouds right now. Fuck the world.
  7. Look at tRump waving a piece of paper around with hi-lited text from the Op-Ed piece and lambasting the NYT and Woodward. Put that golf ball on the tee.
  8. The op-ed seems like a transparent effort by Trump and his staff to distract attention from the Woodward book. It doesn't make much sense otherwise because on balance, it is far too self-serving. and undeservingly so, in my estimation (as a non-Republican ).
  9. I sincerely hope that Rick Hahn will announce that Eloy will be brought up tomorrow . If Eloy proves to be an All Star and likes the Sox, they will have every opportunity to sign him long term. If not then they can trade him like the Sox traded away Sale and Quintana at the pinnacle of their careers. The idea that the Sox should take advantage of the rules to hold Eloy and make force him wait another year for FA is a joke. Take the high road instead. Treat the guy like a champ and he will be here as long as the Sox want him and can afford his Contract. If the Sox want another championship in the foreseeable future they are going to have to sign a few All-Star level players to big money deals. That is just the reality of baseball. Look at the FA that teams like the Cubs, Yankees and Boston have signed over the last few years. If the idea is to try to win with a team that doesn't carry several big player contracts, forget about it. That's probably not going to happen anymore.
  10. Meanwhile Sox rotation is looking so good that a Second Place finish this year, while far flung, is not entirely out of the question.
  11. I love AJ in the booth as well. One minor gripe I had with Hawk's announcing today was his mention of LeBron putting his foot in politics. It seems to me that in that case (without mentioning a name) politics put their foot in sports and LeBron just asked for it to stop. But other than that, I love the Hawk (even though I disagree with his politics) and thought his pre-game speech was awesome.
  12. Watching Benintendi out there makes me wish Hahn could get a do-over on the Sale trade.
  13. It will be interesting to see Benintendi and Moncada tonight. I wonder how many Sox fans would rather have had Benintendi than Moncada in that trade. I wanted both of them. ?
  14. Lopez has great stuff, not just goof stuff. All plus pitches - 97mph fastball, good change, slider and curve. He is a competitor as he showed in this game at Yankee stadium during a pennant run for them with all the pressure on them. Man can we have a good rotation if these guys keep up. The last several games, including this series at Yankee stadium, have been fun to watch. Entertaining baseball. That play on the wild pitch by Kevan Smith and Reynaldo was freaking awesome. Go .... you.... White .... Sooooooooxxxxx!
  15. Great Defense by Tim Anderson, Yolmer and even by Davidson who picked some off target throws, including on the DP in the 7th. Tim Anderson is fun to watch on the bases. Yolmer makes some great plays at the hot corner. Life is short. Bring up Eloy.
  16. I am not drinking down the entire glass the Koolaid on Kopech just yet but I have sipped a lot of it. I think he is a potential Ace in the coming years. At worst, he could turn into a Jeff Samardzija but if he can still throw 100+ he could even transition to being a Closer. Right now he stands at or near the top of our rotation. So, Rodon, Kopech, Cease, Gio, Reynaldo next season and obviously a few other guys have a shot to make it. This is very good news for our Sox going into 2019.
  17. Tonight's game on WGN is a free over the air broadcast. My new RCA ant751 antenna in the attic (from Wallyworld) is giving me a picture as good as cable. Thanks to whomever it was that recommended that to me here.
  18. The fact is there isn't a single metric other than anecdotal speakings that support what you are saying, while every single measurable fact from multiple generations worth of data falls in my camp. Perhaps your camp is on the North Side. The biggest fallacy of your camp is that gauging the amount of fan support by attendance figures at the park is inherently flawed. Wrigley is walking distance for many fans. Bridgeport is rapidly being gentrified and the South loop continues to creep toward 35th street, so that is changing. Many, many things concerning the fan base have changed over the years and will change in ways that one cannot predict. Joe Ricketts over-developed the Wrigley site and all that Ameritrade money maximized exposure. It won't last forever. Nothing does. Sox outdrew the Cubs in several years before 1980 and in 1982, 1983, 1984 before the Harry Caray clown show moved to the North side. They will again at some point but in the meantime, there are many more Sox fans than Cub fans right now inside the city limits and in the South suburbs, and they are proving to be quite resilient.
  19. "a nice Hispanic family who just wants to bully their way out of the parking lot, or the 3 of them, including their kid, may open your car door and go through your window to assault you, then chase down the car as you try to drive away, beating at the windows and yelling. " "What is racist about that? Unless it you think they committed a hate crime, which I don't have any real reason to assume. They were just very concerned with cutting people off in the parking lot. Their son did use racial slurs, but none that actually made sense to the race in which he yelled them at. " Your initial comment was in the third person as though this was a hypothetical, then you say something about racial slurs in the first person. I am Hispanic and found your comments to be blatantly bigoted and provocative. That is why I responded,. I know you won't apologize so please, just stop. Thanks.
  20. "Don't talk back to a nice Hispanic family who just wants to bully their way out of the parking lot, or the 3 of them, including their kid, may open your car door and go through your window to assault you, then chase down the car as you try to drive away, beating at the windows and yelling. " Really? I did not think bigoted, racist, or political posts were allowed by the terms of service here.
  21. I am OK with allowing Moncada to show what he has (or doesn't have) this season because it provides the Sox organization with a lot of information to process in a throw away season. Similarly, I would bring Eloy , Robert, Case, Kopech or anyone else who is even close to major league ready at the outset on the 2019 season. I don't think the "he is not ready to come up t the majors" is a valid argument for any of the top prospects when some of the placeholders on the 25 man roster are a joke. In short, I think 2019 should start off with all hands on deck. I will always be a great fan of the White Sox and because of that, I do not want to see another year like this. This is just awful.
  22. Tim Anderson saw the catch then stopped running. It was a natural instinct. Players don't run out line drives that are caught for outs. And normally they don't get benched for it.
  23. I get why Moncada was mentioned. There are a lot of prospects and players that fans fall in love with so to speak, but then end up as average players who never fulfill the high expectations fans had for them. So, consider the possibility that Fulmer becomes a middle inning long reliever, not even a set-up 8th inning reliever. Is that what fans expected of a high first round Draft pick? Maybe some would be happy with that but not me, not when the Sox need some star players for this rebuild. The Sox cannot blow high first round Draft picks for average major league talent. This may come off as sarcastic and I don't mean it that way but the thought came to mind last night watching the 9th that Davidson has better stuff than Fulmer.
  24. WTH is dat? LOL. It's a typo like say, mofo. Moncada can't hit Left Handed pitchers as a Right Handed hitter. But you knew that. He cannot start games against against LEFT HANDED starters if continues to hit .147 against them LOL He doesn't want to play third base and anyway, Yolmer is probably a better defender there with a superior arm. PERHAPS Madrigal could beat Moncada out for the second base job, maybe as soon as next season. My guess is that Madrigal will make all the routine plays just like he did in College, and will hit for a much higher average than Moncada and avoid all the strike outs. Moncada touted as the number one prospect in all of baseball has not yet lived up to that rating.
  25. Moncada cannot be a full time starter if he cannot hit RH pitching, and thus far, he seems to have proven that he can't. I'm not buying excuses. This season is over half way done, Moncada will be 24 next year and Madrigal will be challenging for second base.
