  1. Honestly, would you turn down the Yankees if they offered you more money than anyone else as well as probably the best opportunity to win a championship. As much as I hate the Yankees if I was put in the same situation I'm not sure I wouldn't make the same decision.
  2. Like I said in my last post, anything is possible when it comes to the Yankees acquiring players. And I agree that they will have a big time second baseman by the start of the season.
  3. Not a bad idea. But the whole thing is it wouldn't surprise me one bit to hear in a couple days that the Yankees are about to acquire Vidro. Nearly any rumor I hear regarding the Yankees I regard as an actual possibility.
  4. Speaking of the Yankees, I just went over to check out their board and they really don't seem excited about the last couple days events. And they were having a discussion about bringing in Jose Vidro to play 2nd base. All I have to say is that if the Yankees were to acquire Vidro I would almost be in support of a lockout if it meant getting a salary cap.
  5. Their rotation will probably look something like this 1. Mussina 2. Brown 3. Vasquez 4. Maddux 5. Contreras Anyone falters Lieber gets a shot and if Lieber falters they go buy another top of the line starter.
  6. David Wells, Andy Pettite? Are you sure it didn't say this is the first time since 1992 they won't have a left handed starter?
  7. Yeah, they beat Purdue 40-39.
  8. Others Receiving Votes: Syracuse 194, Utah State 117, Air Force 94, Illinois 87, Oklahoma 59, Florida 57, Dayton 40, Seton Hall 40, Charlotte 26, Kent State 26, Western Michigan 25, Michigan State 14, Boston University 8, Maryland 6, Nevada 6, DePaul 1, East Tennessee State 1, Hawaii 1, Manhattan 1. Air Force lost to Texas Pan American 37-35 tonight. Top 30 material they are not.
  9. He said earlier today that the Yankees weren't interested in Maddux but that was before all of these reports started coming out. I don't think it would surprise anyone if the Yankees signed Maddux. Whats another 8 million or so in payroll when your payroll is already near 200 mil.
  10. I have an idea why don't the Yankees sign him. They sign every other good player so whats another 5-6 million in salary. :fyou
  11. Yeah, it would be a shame to only have two World Series appearances in three years.
  12. I don't follow hockey real closely, but I thought I heard that this draft was supposed to have the next Gretzky, Lemieux, etc.. in it. Any chance the Blackhawks get this guy? I do watch playoff hockey and thats about it but it would be nice to see the Blackhawks in the playoffs.
  13. Don't get me wrong, I would be ecstatic if the Sox made it to the World Series. I just don't see a chance that it happens. You are right, it is a crapshoot once you are in the playoffs, but we would be seriously outgunned by the Red Sox, Angels, and Yankees. The Marlins had their X-factor Josh Beckett which I don't think we have. Anything can happen but we are more likely to not make the playoffs then win the ALCS IMO.
  14. Even so, I can't see this team winning back to back playoff series at this time. If someone steps up big time or we make additions during the season that is a different story. And actually, I thought the Marlins had a great shot at the Yankees last year in the playoffs. With the way they were playing and Josh Beckett was pitching they could have given anyone a series.
  15. Yeah, he was my favorite player at that time and I was pretty upset when he got traded seeing as how I was only 9 and didn't quite understand the economics of baseball yet.
  16. I'd bet on the Sox to win the Central division, but the ALCS, come on. Does anyone really see us beating the A's, Red Sox, Angels, or Yankees in a playoff series?
  17. :fyou to the crybaby coach and the rapist. :puke
  18. No problem. I also forgot to mention that McDowell averaged over 7 innings a start for the Sox in 94 as well as in his previous three years as well, the guy was a gamer.
  19. He was 10-9 in 94 but still had an ERA of 3.73 coming off of consecutive 20 win seasons. McDowell was never a guy with a really low ERA so I can't imagine that was to great of a concern. He went on to win 15 games for the Yanks in '95.
  20. What the hell do the pollster see in Zona. I have not been impressed by them at all and I'm not sure they are even a top 25 team let alone a top 15 team. Even in some of their wins that I have seen they have looked like crap.
  21. We basically traded Jack McDowell away for nothing to the Yankees. Granted he didn't do much after the trade but it still pissed a lot of people off. I don't think we got money in return but it was a payroll dump.
  22. Thats the thing though, his salary means absolutely nothing to the Yankees. He pitches like he did last year, it doesn't matter to them how much he is making.
  23. Thanks, I figured someone would post them anyways. Those look pretty damn good to me. I would hate to have someone like that on the White Sox.
  24. Umm... Kevin Brown made 32 starts and pitched over 200 innings last year as well as having a sub 2.50 ERA ( I don't feel like looking up the exact numbers). If he pitched over 200 innings I don't think injuries were an issue. Vasquez will be fine, I think he is pretty much a sure thing. I'll eat crow if he doesn't pan out but I expect him to win 18+ games this year barring injury. Contreras looked great to me down the stretch once the Yankees gave him a chance. Its fair to say that their pitching staff top to bottom is probably in the top 5 in baseball.
