Even so, I can't see this team winning back to back playoff series at this time. If someone steps up big time or we make additions during the season that is a different story. And actually, I thought the Marlins had a great shot at the Yankees last year in the playoffs. With the way they were playing and Josh Beckett was pitching they could have given anyone a series.

Peter Gammons says Yanks could go after Buehrle

Yeah, he was my favorite player at that time and I was pretty upset when he got traded seeing as how I was only 9 and didn't quite understand the economics of baseball yet. -
I'd bet on the Sox to win the Central division, but the ALCS, come on. Does anyone really see us beating the A's, Red Sox, Angels, or Yankees in a playoff series?

No problem. I also forgot to mention that McDowell averaged over 7 innings a start for the Sox in 94 as well as in his previous three years as well, the guy was a gamer. -

He was 10-9 in 94 but still had an ERA of 3.73 coming off of consecutive 20 win seasons. McDowell was never a guy with a really low ERA so I can't imagine that was to great of a concern. He went on to win 15 games for the Yanks in '95. -
What the hell do the pollster see in Zona. I have not been impressed by them at all and I'm not sure they are even a top 25 team let alone a top 15 team. Even in some of their wins that I have seen they have looked like crap.

We basically traded Jack McDowell away for nothing to the Yankees. Granted he didn't do much after the trade but it still pissed a lot of people off. I don't think we got money in return but it was a payroll dump. -
Thats the thing though, his salary means absolutely nothing to the Yankees. He pitches like he did last year, it doesn't matter to them how much he is making.
-
Thanks, I figured someone would post them anyways. Those look pretty damn good to me. I would hate to have someone like that on the White Sox.

Umm... Kevin Brown made 32 starts and pitched over 200 innings last year as well as having a sub 2.50 ERA ( I don't feel like looking up the exact numbers). If he pitched over 200 innings I don't think injuries were an issue. Vasquez will be fine, I think he is pretty much a sure thing. I'll eat crow if he doesn't pan out but I expect him to win 18+ games this year barring injury. Contreras looked great to me down the stretch once the Yankees gave him a chance. Its fair to say that their pitching staff top to bottom is probably in the top 5 in baseball.

A-rod in NY, Shaq in LA, MJ in Chicago

A lot of that has to do with the big markets having more money to pay the stars. You don't see that in football due to the salary cap. -
You do realize you listed four teams there right?
-
Kevin Brown made 32 starts in '03 so he just had a complete season. As for Vasquez, you never know how a guy will handle pressure but I wouldn't consider that much of an issue and he has good enough stuff where he will fine in the AL.

You have to be kidding me. Ever hear of Kevin Brown and Javier Vasquez.

And the rest of them

Purdue is sinking fast. Losses at home vs. NW and at home vs. Ohio St. If they don't pull it together real quick they have no shot at the tourney. Factor in RPI in that is probably now in the 80s and it doesn't look promising. As much as it pains me to say this it is possible the Big 10 will only receive two berths this year, unlikely because I think someone will surprise in the BTT but it is a possibility. Scary to think about.
-
And Michigan suffers a huge blow to their NCAA tourney hopes with a loss to Minnesota of all teams. Can you say NIT? Big 10 is looking at 3 or 4 at the best NCAA berths right now. Right now ILL and Wisconsin are in good shape, MSU is borderline and everyone else is on the outside looking in.
-
I mentioned that MSU could make some noise in the Big 10 tourney and I said if they take care of business they are a tourney team. But right now they aren't. As for the Big 10 being taken to lightly its because the conference got its ass kicked in non conference play. There were very few marquee wins for the conference and a lot of losses to top competition, that is why the Big 10 doesn't get any respect.
-
Borderline yes. Michigan is a decent victory but the reason I included the second Michigan game is because it is a lot harder to win on the road and that would be a quality road win.
-
Alright first of all, Memphis is a quality win for Illinois. They are top 30 in the RPI, have a win over Lousiville, and will soon be ranked in the top 25. UIC was not a bad win as they may be a tourney team. Missouri is turning out to not be a big win but we did beat a team in the top 70 RPI without Deron Williams. MSU's only decent nonconference win was Depaul who is a solid team. You bring up our loss to Northwester, how about MSU's loss to UCLA who is not a good team this year and are only 1 game over .500. As for Purdue, I think they are a good team, and like I said I had them down as a possibility, the only reason I didn't say they were a lock (really no one in the Big 10 except for Wisky is a lock at this point but Purdue without the injuries and Illinois would be very close) because of the injuries resulting in them losing 3 out of 4 including a home loss to Ohio State. MSU has 3 regular season chances for quality wins left, @ Michigan, and home vs. Purdue and Wisky. If they don't win at least two of those games they have no business being in the tourney. And obviously they would also have the Big 10 tourney to make some noise as well.
