What a f***ing choke job by Press. You can't miss the net on a penalty kick there. Just can't happen.

2016 Recruiting Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 06:24 PM) That would be awful. He's way too good for SLU Zero doubt that recruitment is dirty. I don't think he even should have really chosen Illinois with Groce as our coach but a kid who claims academics matter that had offers from NW, Illinois, and Texas (and then from a basketball perspective an MSU offer amongst others) chooses to go to SLU to play for Travis Ford?

It is crazy how far Missy Franklin has fallen. She should have taken the endorsement money when she had the chance in 2012.

Sox in pursuit of Puig
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) Or they trade for him while his value is low, he has a bounce back and they trade him for a huge profit. Yeah, if you aren't giving up a lot of young talent to get him Puig actually makes a ton of sense for the Sox to bet on if they are rebuilding. Worst case is you pay him $20 million the next couple of year to play out the string on some bad teams. In the best case he regains his 2013 and 2014 form and you can trade him for a bunch more young talent (or try to resign him).

7/29 - White Sox at Twins
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 07:22 PM) Hope Q doesn't have a bad start tonight to hurt any possible value Eh, teams have 5 years of data on Quintana. One start isn't going to move the needle one way or the other unless he were to god forbid get injured.

Chris Sale to Astros potential package?
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 05:20 PM) That would be more than fair, but the Astros aren't letting Springer go. And I wouldn't either. Altuve-Springer-Correa is the best young trio of hitters in the AL. I don't know if the Astros have enough after Bregman. McCullers doesn't really profile top of the rotation. Reed is hyped. I haven't checked their farm, but at least last year they probably had 10-15 B+ prospects in their org. That's not what you want as a center for Sale, but they would buy other players. How does McCullers not project as a top of the rotation starter?

That is a huge get. I wonder if they are shooting for a 6 man class comprised of the current 3 commits plus a PG (Frazier or Scruggs), a big man (no idea) and then Goodwin.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 10:32 AM) Roger going down...to a Canadian? He choked horribly in the last game of the 4th set when he should have easily sent it to a tiebreak. He was up 40-0, lost a point and then double faulted on back to back points.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 12:16 PM) Technically, isn't Steph a free agent. If you sign Giannis you would have room for a max to Giannis and a max to someone in the older age max group (given how the max deals range). Plus, Lebron & Durant will presumably opt-out again and be free agents. Giannis isn't even worth discussing as he is a restricted free agent next year and Milwaukee will almost assuredly just match any offer.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) They have $50.9M on the books for next year (Wade / Butler / Lopez / Doug / Snell / Jerian Grant / Bobby Portis / Valentine). Cap at 107 would give you 56.1M in available cap space. Two max guys FA's with 7-9 years of experience are projected to cost approximately 28.8M each). So under the previous regime, if we essentially moved Snell, we would have had the room (including draft holds / roster holds). Felicio is someone we could get minimal cap stuff for as is Dinwiddie. Basically under the old scenario it was totally doable, without any major sacrifices. Under the new cap, where we are down 5M, the reality is, the way to do it would be either by moving Lopez or by getting existing players or the FA's to take slightly less than max money (or essentially dump everyone but Wade / Lopez / Butler (which is possible). Wade could opt out and sign for slightly less (but Bulls could add another year to make it worth Wade's while). Bottom line, if guys wanted to come here, they could make it work. Or we get one max guy and one guy damn near max money while keeping Wade. Your math on what is on the books is way off. Wade, Butler and Lopez's contracts alone are higher than that.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) Apparently back in 2010 Wade told Pax he was coming and shook his hand and said he had to go back to the owner of the Heat and tell him face to face. Pax asked him to sign something cementing his commitment. He wouldn't do it. Pax knew he wouldn't be back. I really don't understand this move. How is Wade going to get a max guy to sign? He's 100 in NBA years. Out of the top guys the one guy next summer Wade may give them a legit shot at is Chris Paul because they are really close. I don't see Wade being a draw for Westbrook and the Bulls aren't getting Curry. If they have even thought that far ahead my guess is they are hoping Wade can recruit CP3 who will then bring Blake Griffin along with him. From a purely basketball standpoint the signing does nothing to help the Bulls get closer to a championship.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) That would be just brilliant. Dump a $20 million injury prone guard that needs the ball just to add an older, more expensive injury prone guard that needs the ball. After adding a point guard who dominates the ball that can't shoot or score.
