    Catcher

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:02 PM) There was nothing but positive reviews of Collins' catching ability in the AFL. No reason to knock him off catcher anytime soon. "The biggest concerns around Collins is where he will play defensively. He’s played a lot of places, but the White Sox are giving him a fair shake at catcher. The White Sox need a backstop, but it doesn’t appear Collins is the answer. His feet have the propensity to be heavy and his receiving abilities are a little awkward." QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:01 PM) I don't have a name in mind, but at the very least they should acquire someone that's a decent framer. Even if said catcher can't hit at all, it can't be good for young pitchers development to constantly lose a ton of strikes. In general, get players back there who are actual catchers that can handle all defensive aspects of catching. Catching is the most important defensive position on the field. Catchers who can defend and hit are 1 in a million. You usually either get an offensive catcher or a defensive catcher.
  3. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:59 PM) I'm surprised we aren't hearing more about Nate Jones. Literally any team that is trying to contend this year could use him. Worst case let Nate continue what he was doing this year and flip him to a desperate team at the deadline.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:57 PM) This is the real puzzler. There aren't any decent free agents out there. Trade for some solid defensive catcher like Severino or Carson Kelly in a Q or Eaton deal to pair with Narvaez.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:54 PM) There's this Zack Collins guy out there...we should really look into him. ...they should really look into making him into a long term 1B
  6. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:53 PM) Passan said teams are offering about 95% of the Sale deal for Q, so... Where did he say this, on MLBN?
  7. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:33 PM) Same here as well. The idea of X player will just play this position that he never played before. It requires thousands and thousands of reps to drill in some of this first step footwork for those who never played the OF especially a premier position such as CF. Unless you are okay with your really fast player chasing balls he misplayed in the gap or on the other side of it getting hurt because he is trying to make up for a bad jump and diving. In reality we need to make sure we attempt to develop him at his natural position first. I don't see lots of people complaining that Dustin Pedroia, Javey Baez or Jose Altuve are wasting their talents playing 2b. Middle infield is a premier position and I dont care if my best athletes are up the middle of the infield first. I'm with you. 95% of the time you can't just throw someone who has played the IF their whole life into CF, which is BTW one of the most difficult positions on a baseball field to master defensively with SS and C.
  8. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:35 PM) Luke Weaver, Harrison Bader, Matt Adams, Carson Kelly, Sandy Alcantara...ehh? The cardinals lack an impactful hitting prospect I think. I can't see us coming up with a deal for Eaton to them. Delvin Perez was very highly thought of going into the 2016 draft before testing positive. And he still was a first rounder.
  9. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:23 PM) I'm good with moving Eaton The only one I hope they hold onto is Q - and only for a year - just to stabilize the staff. The Cards are always throwing Bader out there (along with Wong and Adams of course). I assume Bader's a ranked prospect, but he had a rough AAA. C'mom dude! Let's get us some top 3 draft picks the next 2 or 3 years! Move everything of value ASAP. Maybe let Abreu rebuild value over the first half.
  10. QUOTE (Real @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 06:59 PM) Most Red Sox fans calling into this weei radio show saying they can't believe this is all they had to give up That's funny. 2 days ago the Red Sox fans of the internet were saying that Moncada wasn't worthy of getting Sale. Now the trade happens and they win it. That being said, I am disappointed we missed out on another piece or 2 just so Boston would pick up all the money owed to Moncada.
  11. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:05 PM) I really hope Eaton doesn't get traded. He is the type of player you want in a rebuild. Yeah if he was 22, not 28. The Sox sent a clear message acquiring strictly prospects - that this is gonna be a long process. Eaton will be 31 or 32 with a year or 2 of control left by the time we're competitive again anually.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:33 PM) Like Basabe, don't know who V. Diaz is Victor Diaz is a hard throwing relief prospect. Red Sox 28th prospect according to Pipeline.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) Kopech and Giolito have very similar stuff. One could argue Kopech has the slightly better stuff. And without the TJS to boot. Devers and Robles are at a similar place development-wise. Both below AA. Obviously Robles gets the defensive nod, but I'm of the opinion that Devers is going to flat out hit in the Majors.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:59 AM) Because best case scenario Sox are good again in 2019 and JBJ has 2 years left at that point. To me, getting JBJ means the Sox will still try to patch together a decent team in 17/18, which I guess deep down I am OK with. I know most here arent, however. Hahn has said he knows we could be terrible for a few years if we rebuild and that's part of the price for a bright future. I'm not convinced they won't try to "win" next year until the team is torn down, however.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) Can anyone live with a deal that gets you Devers and Kopech but no headliner other than BradleyJr.? Who would the 4th/5th piece have to be in that scenario? Groome, Basabe, Swihart, Rodriguez, Owens, etc.? Yeah, I could easily. Especially if JBJ would be flipped (my preference). Devers/Kopech = Giolito/Robles, IMO
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) This is the moment we have all been waiting for. Who decides to put the top name into the pile? Dombrowski will put in Benintendi or Moncada, IMO. No way Nats part with Turner unless it was part of a bigger deal.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) Ugh. Although I suppose Sox could turn around and trade JBJ and Q to Nats for an absolute haul. True. I hadn't thought of it this way. But if the Sox "love" JBJ why would they go and flip him?
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) I have a strange feeling that the Red Sox make the deal. No inside sources or anything, just feel like Red Sox are more willing to get a deal done. You know DD was gonna be lurking deep into the game. He's arguably done more "win now" trades than any other exec currently in the game.
  19. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:51 AM) Please no JBJ..... I want younger players with less service time.... I'm praying that the Sox won't be so stupid. But I'll believe it when I see it. Benintendi PLEASE
  20. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) Let's say Washington hypothetically got Rutherford from the Yankees and included him in a Sale package. What would you guys say to this? Sale for Giolito, Robles, Rutherford, Stevenson, Severino, and Fedde. I'm pulling the trigger on that all day. That's equal to Moncada or Benientendi/Devers/Kopech or Groome for me unless the Red Sox back end pieces were superior.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) Rutherford would be a nice add. Absolutely. I wanted to Sox to take him in the draft. That's the type of player we need for the future. He's in that Kyle Tucker/Devers group for me of guys who will just hit.
  22. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) Rumors of the Nats trading Gio to the Yankees. Maybe Rizzo needs the prospects to complete the Sale trade. Gio Gonzalez, right? Not Giolito?
  23. In my eyes, Benintendi is the type of prospect even the White Sox couldn't ruin, barring injury. Moncada while having "more talent" and a higher ceiling, is the type of player I could definitely see be underwhelming with the White Sox, even being the #1 prospect - based on our recent history with tools guys. I guess the same could be said about Robles. Not saying I'd be disappointed with a Moncada acquisition, just skeptical the Red Sox would rather give him up over Benintendi - if that were the case.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) My answer is option 3: they're doing neither, they're just drafting higher and that makes it harder to miss. You still have to choose the right player, regardless of where you pick. Is more elite talent available near the top of the first round? Sure. In Rodon's draft, the Astros and Marlins blew it at #1 and #2. They could easily have selected Rodon if their process was better. Instead they both got high school TJS guys, one of whom didn't even sign. Many of the Red Sox prospects the past few years have been guys selected in the late first round/comp rounds/2nd rounds. It's about choosing the right guy.
  25. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:29 AM) I think the Nationals package is better and it's not close. Giolito/Robles >>>> than Devers/Kopech. I'm on the other end of this. While I absolutely love Robles' possible defensive value, to me Devers is going to have the more sure thing bat in the Majors. He's got some of the best hit tool/power-potential combo down there. Kopech basically matches Giolito's stuff but without the TJS on his record. Arguments can be made both ways. Omar comin', yo!
